Abstract

With the trend of increasing vendors to develop various multi-model databases, people have reaped benefits from using a single and unified platform to manage both well-structured and NoSQL data. However, it causes a steep learning curve of mastering a multi-model query language for the specific multi-model database, not to mention various languages for different databases. Therefore, this research discusses the motivations of performing keyword searches on multi-model databases and then presents our current research. Methodologically, we attempt to use the quantum-inspired framework to query and explore multi-model databases. Firstly, we apply non-classical probabilities to estimate the relevance between a keyword query and candidate answers for guaranteeing getting good accuracy. Then we use the Principle Component Analysis (PCA) method to optimize the quantum language model for capturing good scalability. Finally, experiments show that our approaches are effective and our framework outperforms the state-of-the-art approaches.

Quantum Query Processing: Unifying Database Querying and Information Retrieval

Ingo Schmitt

September 2006Abstract: Traditional database query languages are based on set theory and crisp first order logic. However, many applications require retrieval-like queries which return result objects associated with a degree value of being relevant to the query. Traditionally, retrieval systems estimate relevance by exploiting hidden object semantics whereas query processing in database systems relies on matching select-conditions with attribute values. Thus, different mechanisms were developed for database and information retrieval systems. In consequence, there is a lack of support for queries involving both retrieval and database search terms. In this work, we develop a unifying framework based on the mathematical formalism of quantum mechanics and quantum logic. Van Rijsbergen already discussed the strong relation between the formalism of quantum mechanics and information retrieval. The goal of this work is to interrelate concepts from database query processing to concepts from quantum mechanics and logic. As result, we obtain a common theory which allows us to incorporate seamlessly retrieval search into traditional database query processing. Exploiting our theoretical results, we introduce the quantum query language QQL. In contrast to competing approaches, our formalism is based on quantum logic.

Quantum Natural Language Processing Application for Estimating SQL Query Metrics

Valter Uotila

Quantum Natural Language Processing (QNLP) is built on a novel, category theoretical quantum machine learning model, which we use to solve a well-researched problem in the database field: estimating metrics for SQL queries. The metrics we focus on are latency (i.e., the execution time), cost (i.e., a value of how expensive the query is in total), and cardinality (i.e., the number of rows in the result table). The critical link between QNLP and the database problem lies in using grammars, such as context-free grammar. Both natural language and SQL queries admit grammatical presentations, which allow us to develop a comprehensive framework for applying QNLP methods to solve the query estimation problem. The model comprises an encoding mechanism and a training phase, integrating classical and quantum subroutines. The encoding mechanism transforms SQL queries into parametrized quantum circuits as in QNLP. Classical optimization algorithms optimize the circuit parameters during training to predict query metrics. Comparing our model to the QNLP models, our model achieves accuracy comparable to the QNLP model in binary classification tasks. Additionally, we expand upon previous research by implementing multi-class classification tasks and comparing the cardinality estimation results to those of state-of-the-art databases. Our theoretical analysis of the quantum machine learning model includes calculations of its expressibility and entangling capabilities. The analysis reveals that the model possesses beneficial properties, making it suitable to be executed on near-term quantum hardware.

Quantum Machine Learning for Ultra-Fast Query Execution in High-Dimensional SQL Data Systems

Raghavender Maddali -

The new Quantum Machine Learning (QML) paradigm for highly efficient query execution in high-dimensional SQL data systems and Conventional database query execution is plagued by performance bottlenecks because of the explosive nature of structured data and intricate query optimization issues. The new QML-based methodology uses quantum algorithms to accelerate query processing by exploiting parallel computation, quantum-aided indexing, and probabilistic data access. With the incorporation of quantum-enhanced optimization methods, the framework achieves remarkable query execution time reduction, enhanced system scalability, and increased efficiency in managing relational databases at scale. The work compares the framework's performance against traditional SQL query optimizers and shows better performance in terms of execution speed, accuracy in retrieving data, and utilization of computational resources. The results also point to the promise of QML in revolutionizing DBMS and bringing in next-generation data analytics solutions.

Quantum Natural Language Processing: A Comprehensive Review of Models, Methods, and Applications

Farha Nausheen, Khandakar Entenam Unayes Ahmed, Mumit Khan +1 more

In recent developments, deep learning methodologies applied to Natural Language Processing (NLP) have revealed a paradox: They improve performance but demand considerable data and resources for their training. Alternatively, quantum computing exploits the principles of quantum mechanics to overcome the computational limitations of current methodologies, thereby establishing an emerging field known as quantum natural language processing (QNLP). This domain holds the potential to attain a quantum advantage in the processing of linguistic structures, surpassing classical models in both efficiency and accuracy. In this paper, it is proposed to categorise QNLP models based on quantum computing principles, architecture, and computational approaches. This paper attempts to provide a survey on how quantum meets language by mapping state-of-the-art in this area, embracing quantum encoding techniques for classical data, QNLP models for prevalent NLP tasks, and quantum optimisation techniques for hyper parameter tuning. The landscape of quantum computing approaches applied to various NLP tasks is summarised by showcasing the specific QNLP methods used, and the popularity of these methods is indicated by their count. From the findings, it is observed that QNLP approaches are still limited to small data sets, with only a few models explored extensively, and there is increasing interest in the application of quantum computing to natural language processing tasks.
