Gain-Induced Group Delay in Spontaneous Parametric Down-Conversion

Guillaume Thekkadath, Martin Houde, Duncan G. England +4 more

Strongly driven nonlinear optical processes such as spontaneous parametric down-conversion and spontaneous four-wave mixing can produce multiphoton nonclassical beams of light which have applications in quantum information processing and sensing. In contrast to the low-gain regime, new physical effects arise in a high-gain regime due to the interactions between the nonclassical light and the strong pump driving the nonlinear process. Here, we describe and experimentally observe a gain-induced group delay between the multiphoton pulses generated in a high-gain type-II spontaneous parametric down-conversion source. Since the group delay introduces distinguishability between the generated photons, it will be important to compensate for it when designing quantum interference devices in which strong optical nonlinearities are required.

Generation of higher order non-classicality in pump mode in seven wave mixing nonlinear optical process

Priyanka Priyanka, Savita Gill

In seven wave mixing non-linear optical process having pump photons of dissimilar frequencies, higher order non classical properties were studied. It is shown that as we go into the higher order of the field amplitude and with an increase in the number of photons existing in the system before non-linear medium interaction, nonclassicality increases. In addition, we have also obtained higher order antibunching of photons that can be used as a criterion to obtain a single source of photons, which is the primary prerequisite for the quantum information processing.

Quantifying Process Nonclassicality in Bosonic Fields*

Shuangshuang Fu, Shunlong Luo

Nonclassicality of optical states, as a key characteristic of bosonic fields, is a valuable resource for quantum information processing. We investigate the generation of nonclassicality in quantum processes from a quantitative perspective, introduce three information-theoretic measures of nonclassicality for quantum-optical processes based on the Wigner–Yanase skew information and coherent states, and illustrate their physical significance through several well-known single-mode quantum processes.
