Abstract

At present, the fifth generation (5G) communication networks are in the time of large-scale deployment principally because its characteristics consists of large bandwidth, fast response, and high stability. As a partner of 5G, the Internet of Things (IoT) involves billions of devices around the world, which can make the wireless communication environment more intelligent and convenient. However, the problem that cannot be ignored is the physical layer security of 5G-IoT networks. Based on this, we perform a security analysis of cognitive radio networks (CRN) for IoT, where the CRN is the single-input multiple-output (SIMO) model experiencing κ-μ shadowed fading with multiple eavesdroppers. To analyze the confidentiality of the system under consideration, we analyze the security performance for the considered IoT systems with the help of the derived secure outage probability (SOP) and probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC). As a verification of the theoretical formula, Monte Carlo simulation is also provided. The results of great interest are the factors that can produce better security performance in high SNRs region which consist of smaller M, smaller k , and larger N, and larger μ , smaller IP , and smaller Rth .

Secrecy Performance Analysis of a Cognitive Network for IoT over k‐μ Channels

Junxia Li, Hui Zhao, Michael Johnson

With the development of Internet of Things (IoTs), devices are now connecting and communicating together on a heretofore unheard‐of scale, forming huge heterogeneous networks of mobile IoT‐enabled devices. For beyond 5G‐ (B5G‐) enabled networks, this raises concerns in terms of spectral resource allocation and associated security. Cognitive radio is one effective solution to such a spectrum sharing issue which can be adopted to these B5G networks, which works on the principle of sharing spectrum between primary and secondary users. In this paper, we develop the confidentiality of cognitive radio network (CRNs) for IoT over k‐μ fading channels, with the information transmitted between secondary networks with multiple cooperative eavesdroppers, under the constraint of the maximum interference that the primary users can tolerate. All considered facilities use a single‐antenna receiver. Of particular interest, the minimum limit values of secure outage probability (SOP) and the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) are developed for this model in a concise form. Finally, the Monte Carlo simulations for the system are provided to support the theoretical analysis presented.

Physical Layer Security for CRNs over Beaulieu‐Xie Fading Channels

Yanyang Zeng, Yang Hua, Yiwei Fang +1 more

In recent years, the access of massive communication devices leads to the insufficient spectrum resources of wireless networks. One of the practical means to resolve the problem is to build cognitive radio networks (CRNs), which can realize the sharing of spectrum resources between primary and secondary users, thereby improving the utilization rate of wireless spectrum resources. To this end, the CRNs are utilized to establish the Wyner’s eavesdropping model over the Beaulieu‐Xie fading channels. We mainly deduce the accurate expressions of secrecy outage probability and strictly positive secrecy capacity to explore the performance of physical layer security. Moreover, the better overlap between the statistical simulation and the theoretical results indicates the correctness of the theoretical analysis equation. The interesting results are that both increasing the Pmax and decreasing the Cth can improve the security performance. This work is a good reference and guidance for modeling CRNs (Internet of Things, fifth generation, cell phone networks, etc.) and security performance evaluation.

Securing Primary Users in IoT 5G Cognitive Radio Networks

Ayat M. Alrjoob, Ahmad Ababnah, Mamoun F. Al‐Mistarihi +1 more

The Internet of Things (IoT) has transformed device communication, necessitating reliable information security, especially physical layer security (PLS). Protecting data confidentiality in wireless transfers is critical in IoT environments. Cognitive Radio Networks (CRNs) optimize spectrum utilization, enhancing network efficiency. This study investigates PLS in CRNs, featuring a primary source-destination pair and a secondary user (SU) that performs cooperative jamming to secure the primary user’s (PU) communication. The SU generates artificial interference, with transmit power determined by the primary network’s interference tolerance. We develop mathematical formulas to assess outage probabilities, aiming to enhance security and efficiency in IoT and spectrum management.

On the Secrecy Analysis of Dual-Hop Underlay Multi-Source CRNs with Multi-Eavesdroppers and a Multi-Antenna Destination

In this paper, the physical layer security in cognitive radio networks (CRNs) is investigated. We consider an underlay relay assisted CRN consisting of multiple secondary sources, multiple-antenna destination, a single relay, and multiple eavesdroppers. The destination node performs the maximal-ratio combining under uncorrelated Rayleigh fading channels. In more details, we consider, a secondary source is randomly selected to transmit its data, and a jammer is chosen from the remaining source nodes to send a jamming signal to the eavesdroppers. The closed-form expression of the secrecy outage probability is derived, based on the statistical characteristics of the communication channels, under the primary user's quality of service constraint. The derived analysis gives deep insights into the impact of network parameters on the performance of on the secrecy outage performance. Analytic results are corroborated through Monte Carlo simulation.

Secrecy Analysis of Underlay CRN in the Presence of Correlated and Imperfect Channel

Shilpa Thakur, Ajay Singh, Sudhan Majhi

The presence of correlated and imperfect channel state information (CSI) affects the secrecy performance of cognitive radio networks (CRN). In this paper, we propose a physical layer security analysis of underlay CRN in terms of secrecy outage probability (SOP), average secrecy rate (ASR), and amount of secrecy loss (ASL). Closed forms of SOP, ASR, and ASL are provided over imperfect CSI of Rayleigh fading environment where the legitimate channel is correlated with the eavesdropper channel. The analytical results are compared with the simulation results. The work is also compared with existing work. It has been observed that the secrecy performance of the network improves as peak interference power increases, and the correlation positively impacts the secrecy performance at a medium-to-high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR); however, it degrades the data security capability of the network at low SNR. Furthermore, asymptotic analysis shows that the secrecy performance of the network improves with the growing correlation between legitimate and eavesdropper channels when the SNR of the legitimate channel is much higher than that of the eavesdropper channel, whereas secrecy performance decreases with a reducing correlation when the SNR of the legitimate channel is approximately equal to SNR of eavesdropper channel.

Secrecy Capacity of Physical Layer over $\kappa-\mu$ /Gamma Composite Fading Channel

Rupender Singh, Meenakshi Rawat

Rapid developments of the emerging wireless network applications such as 5G, IoT and device-to-device (D2D) systems raise the diversity of challenges in physical layer security (PLS). In the present work, we examine Wyner's wiretap composite multipath/shadowing fading channel model and provide analysis for PLS secrecy performance. We consider a generic single-input and single-output (SISO) system where both the main and eavesdropper channels are modeled by κ-μ /gamma composite fading channel. In particular, the lower bound of secure outage probability (SOPL) and strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) are obtained in closed-form. We also conduct the analysis for average secrecy capacity (ASC) in heavy shadowing and derive analytical expression in closed-form.
