Counterfactual logic gates

Zheng-Hong Li, Xiaofei Ji, Saeed Asiri +2 more

We present how basic logic gates including nand, nor, and xor gates can be implemented counterfactually. The two inputs (Bob and Charlie) and the output (Alice) of the proposed counterfactual logic gate are not within the same station but rather separated in three different locations. We show that there is no need to prearrange entanglement for the gate, and, more importantly, there are no real physical particles traveling among Alice, Bob, and Charlie during the information processing. Bob and Charlie only need to independently control the blocking and unblocking of the transmission channels that connect them to Alice. In this way, they can completely determine the state of a real photon at Alice's end, thereby leading to implemention of a counterfactual logic gate. The functionality of a particular counterfactual logic gate is determined only by an appropriate design of Alice's optical device. Furthermore, by utilizing the proposed counterfactual logic gates, we demonstrate how to counterfactually prepare the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state and W state with three remote quantum objects, which are in superposition states of blocking and unblocking the transmission channel.

Device-independent prepare-and-prepare bipartite null witness dimension test with a single joint measurement

Josep Amengual i Batle, Tomasz Białecki, Rybotycki, Tomasz +1 more

We propose a device-independent null witness dimensionality test with bipartite measurements and input from two separate parties. The dimension is determined from the rank of the matrix of measurements for pairs of states prepared by the parties. We have applied the test to various IBM Quantum devices. The results demonstrate extreme precision of the test, which is able to detect disagreements with the qubit (two-level) space of bipartite measurement even in the presence of technical imperfections. The deviations beyond 6 standard deviations have no simple origin and need urgent explanations to unblock progress in quantum computing.

THE ZENO EFFECT AND AN INTER-LAYER PAIRING MECHANISM FOR HIGH-TEMPERATURE SUPERCONDUCTIVITY IN LAYERED MATERIALS

Nitesh Kumar

Quantum Zeno Effect (QZE) is the suppression of the inter-subspace transition by a relatively fast intra-subspace decoherence. Earlier, we had proposed a QZE-based mechanism for the temperature-dependent normal-state c-axis resistivity of the layered high-T$_c$ cuprate superconductors in which the single-particle inter-layer tunneling is blocked by the strong intra-layer decoherence (entanglement). We now argue that while the single-particle inter-layer tunneling is thus blocked, the tunneling of the bosonic BCS-like pairs must remain unblocked inasmuch as a BCS pairing condensate is an eigenstate of the pair annihilation operator. This pair tunneling stabilizes
