Magnetization revivals and dynamics of quantum correlations in a Kitaev spin chain

Abstract

We investigate the dynamics of a spin chain with Kitaev-type interaction in a transverse magnetic field, for both a constant field and a periodically kicked field. We investigate analytically the revivals in the dynamical behavior of the magnetization, and measures of local quantum correlations, the concurrence measure of the entanglement, and the quantum discord. The magnetization revivals are seen even for larger chain lengths, with reduced revival peaks, both near and away from the critical point at zero magnetic field. The quantum entanglement and correlation measures, contrary to the expected behavior, exhibit reduced quantum correlations in the critical region, compared to the region away from the critical point. The concurrence is larger than the quantum discord away from the critical region. The pair entanglement is near zero for all times in the critical region, though the quantum discord is nonzero, capturing the underlying diagonal correlations. The kicked magnetic field dynamics shows similar evolution for the magnetization and quantum correlations. For special values of the kicking period, the concurrence shows alternates between zero and nonzero values for successive kicks in the noncritical region.

Quantum correlations and entanglement in a Kitaev-type spin chain

Vimalesh Kumar Vimal, V. Subrahmanyam

The entanglement and quantum correlation measures have been investigated for the ground state of a spin chain with a Kitaev-type exchange interactions on alternating bonds, along with a transverse magnetic field. There is a macroscopic degeneracy in the ground state for zero magnetic field, implying a quantum critical point. In this model, many entanglement and correlation measures, except the macroscopic multispecies entanglement measure, do not show true singular behavior in the vicinity of the critical point, as seen in the transverse-Ising model ground state and related models. We compute the pair concurrence measure of entanglement, the pair quantum discord to track the quantum correlations, and a global entanglement measure and a multispecies entanglement measure to investigate multiparty entanglement, both analytically and numerically. The nearest-neighbor concurrence shows a peak structure as a function of magnetic field, near the critical point, for various values of the ratio of interaction strengths, but its derivative does not show a singular behavior close to the critical point. A similar behavior is shown by the quantum discord and the global entanglement. The multispecies entanglement shows a clear signature of the critical point behavior, and the first-order derivative shows a divergence near zero magnetic field, for equal interaction strengths.

QUENCHING DYNAMICS AND QUANTUM INFORMATION

Tanay Nag, Amit Dutta, Ayoti Patra

We review recent studies on the measures of zero temperature quantum correlations namely, the quantum entanglement (concurrence) and discord present in the final state of a transverse XY spin chain following a quench through quantum critical points; the aim of these studies is to explore the scaling of the above quantities as a function of the quench rate. A comparative study between the concurrence and the quantum discord shows that their behavior is qualitatively the same though there are quantitative differences. For the present model, the scaling of both the quantities are given by the scaling of the density of the defect present in the final state though one cannot find a closed form expression for the discord. We also extend our study of quantum discord to a transverse Ising chain in the presence of a three spin interaction. Finally, we present a study of the dynamical evolution of quantum discord and concurrence when two central qubits, initially prepared in a Werner state, are coupled to the environmental XY spin chain which is driven through quantum critical points. The qualitative behavior of quantum discord and concurrence are found to be similar as that of the decoherence factor.

Quantum Correlation Dynamics Subjected to Quantum Reset-Driven Environment

R. Jafari, Ali Asadian, Mehdi Biderang +1 more

We study two central qubits interacting with a transverse-field Ising chain that serves as their environment. The environment is driven linearly in time across its quantum critical points (QCPs) and, during the evolution, is subjected to quantum reset (QR), where it is returned at random times to its initial state. We investigate how such QR of the environmental spin chain modifies the dynamics of entanglement and quantum discord between the qubits. Our results show that in the strong-coupling regime, entanglement and discord exhibit pronounced revivals within the interval bounded by the Ising QCPs, but these revivals diminish as the QR rate increases. In contrast, weak coupling leads to a monotonic reduction of quantum correlations. Numerically, we find that the revival peaks of concurrence decay and scale exponentially with the QR rate, while quantum discord shows no clear scaling behavior. In the weak-coupling regime without QR, the correlations decay monotonically as the driven field crosses the second QCP. When QR is applied, however, both entanglement and discord undergo oscillatory suppression, with the oscillation period increasing as either the QR rate or the ramp time scale is reduced.

Magnetic quantum correlations in the one-dimensional transverse-field XXZ model

Salimeh Mahdavifar, S. Mahdavifar, Rouhollah Jafari

One-dimensional spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ systems are well-known candidates to study the quantum correlations between particles. In condensed matter physics, studies often are restricted to first-neighbor particles. In this work, we consider the one-dimensional $XXZ$ model in a transverse magnetic field (TF) which is not integrable except at specific points. Analytical expressions for quantum correlations (entanglement and quantum discord) between spin pairs at any distance are obtained for both zero and finite temperature by using the analytical approach proposed by Caux et al. [Phys. Rev. B 68, 134431 (2003)]. We compare the efficiency of the quantum discord (QD) with respect to the entanglement in the detection of critical points as the neighboring spin pairs go farther than the next-nearest neighbors. In the absence of the TF and at zero temperature, we show that the QD for spin pairs farther than the second neighbors is able to capture the critical points while the pairwise entanglement is absent. In contrast with the pairwise entanglement, two-site QD is effectively long range in the critical regimes where it decays algebraically with the distance between pairs. We also show that the thermal QD between neighbor spins possesses strong distinctive behavior at the critical point that can be seen at finite temperature and, therefore, spotlights the critical point while the entanglement fails in this task.

Quantum discord surge heralds entanglement revival in an infinite spin chain

Himadri Shekhar Dhar, Rupamanjari Ghosh, Aditi Sen(De) +1 more

A measure of quantum correlation defined from an information-theoretic perspective, namely, quantum discord, is applied to study the time-evolved nonequilibrium state of the infinite anisotropic quantum XY spin chain in a transverse time-dependent field. In particular, we probe whether the collapse and revival of nearest-neighbor entanglement of the state seen with a varying initial applied field strength, at a fixed evolution time, may be predicted from the behavior of the quantum correlation measure. For this quantum many-body system, realizable with currently available technology, we find that the revival of entanglement of the evolved state occurs if there is an increase in quantum discord in the vicinity of entanglement collapse.
