Abstract

This paper studies the collision dynamics of bright soliton in Bose–Einstein condensate with trapezoid potential. It is found that besides the total reflection and total transmission, one bright soliton can be divided into two bright solitons with different amplitudes in a controllable manner.

Collision dynamics of two bright solitons in growth Bose–Einstein condensates with tunable interactions

Zhiqiang Zhang, He Zhang-Ming, Peng Miao +1 more

By using the split-step fast Fourier transform (SSFFT) method, we numerically study the collision properties between two bright solitons in the growth Bose–Einstein condensates (BECs) with different interaction strengths under a harmonic potential. It is shown that the soliton’s collision property of the condensates can be controlled by adjusting the gain term, the initial position and the interaction strength between atoms. The number of collisions of the two bright solitons decreases first, then increases, with increasing the values of the gain term. As the initial distance between solitons increases, the number of collisions between the two bright solitons is reduced, and the first collision time is also postponed. The increase in interaction strength between atoms delays the collision time of the two bright solitons. Meanwhile, a critical interaction strength between atoms is found, the amplitude of the soliton’s first collision peak increases slowly when the interaction strength is less than the critical value, but the amplitude increases sharply when the interaction strength is more than the critical value.

The controlled fission, fusion and collision behavior of two species Bose–Einstein condensates with an optical potential

He Zhang-Ming, Zhu Qian-Quan, Xin Zhou

Abstract By using the Crank–Nicolson method, we investigate numerically the dynamical properties of bright–bright solitons in two species Bose–Einstein condensates (BECs) trapped in an optical lattice. We confirm that the soliton splitting behavior occurs at a critical depth of optical potential. The splitting behavior of solitons and the fusion behavior of condensates can be accurately controlled by adjusting the depth and lattice parameter of optical potential, the initial amplitude and position of solitons, and the interspecies interactions. When the lattice parameter is fixed but the interspecies interaction increased exponentially with the time, each soliton splits into two soltions with different amplitude, and partial fusion of two species BECs can be found. While the interspecies interaction remains unchanged but the lattice parameter increases exponentially with the time, interestingly, the bright solitons with zero initial velocity can pass through each other and accomplish a transmission collision. Furthermore, for the case of both the interspecies interaction and lattice parameter increased exponentially with the time, a head-on collision of the bright solitons in two species BECs occurred. After the collision, each soliton splits into two soltions with equal amplitude. Meanwhile, the complete fusion of two species BECs can be observed. The relevant results can provide help for the precise manipulation of BECs experiments.

Reflection-Transmission Transition of Bright-Bright Solitons Collision in Two Species Condensates with Repulsive Interspecies Interactions

Zhang-Ming He, Dong-Long Wang, Jian-Wen Ding +1 more

Considering repulsive interspecies interactions, we study the dynamical properties of bright-bright solitons in two species Bose—Einstein condensates by using a variational approach combined with numerical simulation. It is shown that the interactions between bright-bright solitons vary from repulsive to attractive interactions with the increasing their separating distances, and at equilibrium position the bright-bright solitons are localized. Interestingly, a transition from reflection- to transmission-collision is firstly observed, different from previous results of only reflection collision appearing there. These results will be helpful for the experimental manipulating such solitons.

Collisions of anisotropic two-dimensional bright solitons in dipolar Bose-Einstein condensates

Rüdiger Eichler, Damir Zajec, Patrick Köberle +2 more

We investigate the coherent collision of anisotropic quasi-two-dimensional bright solitons in dipolar Bose-Einstein condensates. Our analysis is based on the extended Gross-Pitaevskii equation, and we use the split-operator method for the grid calculations and the time-dependent variational principle with an Ansatz of coupled Gaussian functions to calculate the time evolution of the ground state. We compare the results of both approaches for collisions where initially the solitons are in the repelling side-by-side configuration and move towards each other with a specific momentum. We change the relative phases of the condensates, and introduce a total angular momentum by shifting the solitons in opposite directions along the polarization axis. Our calculations show that collisions result in breathing-mode-like excitations of the solitons.

Merging and splitting dynamics between two bright solitons in dipolar Bose–Einstein condensates*

Xin Li, Peng Gao, Zhan-Ying Yang +1 more

We numerically study the interaction dynamics of two bright solitons with zero initial velocities in the one-dimensional dipolar Bose–Einstein condensates. Under different dipolar strengths, the two bright solitons can merge into a breathing wave, and then split or propagate constantly after several oscillating periods. We quantitatively study the breathing frequency of wave after merging and the asymmetry property of solitons after splitting, and analyze their formation mechanism by the system’s energy evolution. Also, the change of initial phase difference brings distinct effects on the soliton interaction. Our results provide insight into the new dynamical phenomena in dipolar systems and enrich the understanding for interaction between dipolar solitons.

Breathing solitons induced by collision in dipolar Bose–Einstein condensates

Peng Gao, Xin Li, Zhan-Ying Yang +2 more

Abstract We numerically study the breathing dynamics induced by collision between bright solitons in one-dimensional Bose–Einstein condensates with strong dipole–dipole interaction. This breathing phenomenon is closely related to the after-collision short-lived attraction of solitons induced by the dipolar effect. The initial phase difference of solitons leads to the asymmetric dynamics after collision, which is manifested in their different breathing amplitude, breathing frequency, and atom number. We clarify that the asymmetry of breathing frequency is directly induced by the asymmetric atom number, rather than initial phase difference. Moreover, a collision between breathing solitons can produce new after-two-collision breathing solitons, whose breathing amplitude can be adjusted and reaches the maximum (or minimum) when the peak–peak (or dip–dip) collision happens.
