On the Effect of Directed Energy Exchange Between the Light Beams Upon Two-Wave Mixing in Resonant Media

O. G. Romanov

The features of self-focusing (self-defocusing) effect in two-level resonant media have been considered in conditions of strong interactions between the light beams. New modes of two-wave mixing characterized by the presence of the directed energy exchange between the light beams on diffraction from volume dynamic gratings have been found from numerical solution of the coupled-mode equations

Phase conjugation involving incoherent counterpropagating beams in photorefractive media

Mordechai Segev, Amnon Yariv

We propose and analyze a new type of phase conjugation between counterpropagating beams in photorefractive materials based on diffraction from transmission gratings only. This effect does not require temporal coherence between the counterpropagating beams and may occur spontaneously, with no external seeding, even with wide (frequency) band light sources.

Light Beam Propagation in a Photorefractive Environment: Beam-Fanning Effect and Amplification of Weak Beams

Arturo Zúñiga-Segundo, M. A. Arvizu-Coyotzi, José Luis López-Bonilla +1 more

We investigate the propagation of light in photorefractive media by direct numerical simulation. The two dimensional model is based on solution of nonlinear material equations in steady-state and the equations governing propagation of the optical fields. We present results on fanning effect of a single beam and two-wave amplification in an applied alternating field.
