Abstract

Three-dimensional axially symmetrical exactly soluble model of quantum ring has been considered in the constant magnetic field. Potential, which restricts particle movement in the system in two directions, has been used. By applying method of splitting into physical processes, an electron wave functions and a quasi-stationary energy levels values have been obtained. Also a qualitative description of wave packet movement has been given for the case of quantum ring threading by alternating magnetic field.

Dynamics of a tight-binding ring threaded by time-periodic magnetic flux

W. H. Hu, Z. Song

We analytically study the effects of periodically alternating magnetic fields on the dynamics of a tight-binding ring. It is shown that an arbitrary quantum state can be frozen coherently at will by the very frequent square-wave field as well as the monochromatic-wave field when the corresponding optimal amplitudes are taken. Numerical simulations show that the average fidelity depends on not only the system parameters, but also the features of the quantum state. Moreover, taking the initial zero-momentum Gaussian wave packets as examples, we show the dependence of the threshold frequency on the width of the packet for the given average fidelities. These observations provide a means to perform the quantum-state engineering.

Interstate interference of electron wave packet tunneling through a quantum ring

Takuma Okunishi, Yusuke Ohtsuka, M. Muraguchi +1 more

We theoretically study the time-developed progress of resonant tunneling for an electron wave packet injected into a two-dimensional quantum ring (QR) by solving the time-dependent (TD) Schr\"odinger equation numerically. Focusing on an extraction of the angular momentum ${l}_{z}$, we examine the TD features in the resonant tunneling electron by projection analysis in which the resulting TD wave function at the QR is decomposed into the (static) resonant states by calculating the inner products among them. This analysis reveals that the two-states approach is well applicable for the QR system and the cross terms between these two states are crucial for the TD vacillation of both the expectation value of the angular momentum $⟨{\stackrel{\ifmmode \hat{}\else \^{}\fi{}}{l}}_{z}⟩$ and the electron density $\ensuremath{\rho}$. The quasidegeneracy of the resonant states causes a characteristic beating whose frequency is determined by the difference between the eigenenergies. We further study the corresponding TD phenomena under a magnetic field and find that the rotational direction in $\ensuremath{\rho}$ changes in accordance with the strength of the magnetic field. This feature seems to be very different from the classical prospect of the cyclotron motion where the application of the magnetic field determines the rotational direction uniquely.

Quantum mechanical descriptions of an electron in a magnetic field

充 福地, 清 瀬戸

The various quantum mechanical descriptions for an electron in a constant homogeneous magnetic field are considered for some particular gauges using the elementary methods of solutions. The internal relations between them are investigated by the quantum mechanical operator technique to get the systematic solutions for the wave functions in coordinate space. Then the transformation theory between various solutions is established and further the oscillating motion of a wave packet is analyzed to present another direct example of tbe theorem due to Ehrenfest.

A quantum ring in a nanosphere

A.L. Silva Netto, B. Farias, J. Carvalho +1 more

In this paper, we study the quantum dynamics of an electron/hole in a two-dimensional quantum ring within a spherical space. For this geometry, we consider a harmonic confining potential. Suggesting that the quantum ring is affected by the presence of an Aharonov–Bohm flux and a uniform magnetic field, we solve the Schrödinger equation for this problem and obtain exactly the eigenvalues of energy and corresponding eigenfunctions for this nanometric quantum system. Afterwards, we calculate the magnetization and persistent current are calculated, and discuss influence of curvature of space on these values.

Dynamics of a Quantum Particle Interacting With an Electromagnetic Field

Eliade N. Stefanescu

Essentially, we solve the particle-field equations obtained in the matter distribution quantum mechanics. In the framework of this theory, a particle is described by a density amplitude function, we call wave function, as a packet of waves with the time dependent phases proportional to the relativistic Lagrangian. The mass quantization of such a particle, as a distribution of matter, is obtained from the equality of the spatial integral of the density with the mass as a characteristic of the relativistic dynamics of this matter. The particle dynamics, as a motion of a mass spatial distribution, is obtained from the equality of the wave propagation velocities with the distribution coordinate velocities. This description is a physical one, compared to the Schrödinger-Heisenberg description leading to unphysical results as a null velocity for the kinetic energy as a constant of motion, or Zitterbewegung. The description of a particle interaction with an electromagnetic field by additional Lagrangian terms, with a vector potential conjugated to coordinates, as in the Aharonov-Bohm effect, and an electric potential conjugated to time, leads to the Lorentz force, and the Maxwell equations. In the two conjugated spaces, of the coordinates and of the momentum, the dynamics of a quantum particle is described by propagation operators, depending on the coordinate-momentum product, applied to time dependent wave functions satisfying matter-field equations. Unlike the standard Schrödinger or Schrödinger-Dirac equations, depending only on the Hamiltonian operator, instead of the Hamiltonian these equations contain the Lagrangian, which, besides the Hamiltonian, include additional terms with an explicit dependence on velocity, as it is expected in a relativistic theory. We obtain the wave function of a particle-antiparticle system interacting with an electromagnetic field, as a wave packet of spinors propagating in space with finite dimensions, given by the finite definition domain of the density function, in the space of the matter-field momentum, as a constant of motion. We show that an electrically charged quantum particle, rotating in a central electric field, generates a vector potential with a magnetic field perpendicular to the rotational plane and an electric field in this plane. By a quantum transition, a photon is emitted in the particle rotational plane, with the magnetic field perpendicular to this plane, and the electric field contained in this plane. In this framework, the vector potential rotation is correlated to a particle momentum rotation, for the canonical matter-field momentum as a constant of motion, without any electromagnetic field radiated outside.
