The possibility of observation of backward optical nutation, backward one-pulse Photon Echo (PE), backward locked PE, backward two-humped PE, backward nutation PE and backward color echo-hologram is shown from the analysis of experimental and theoretical investigations of backward optical free induction decay, backward primary and stimulated PEs.

Photo Echo and Optical Nutation in Molecules

Richard G. Brewer, R. L. Shoemaker

Photon echo and optical nutation have been easily observed in ${\mathrm{C}}^{13}$${\mathrm{H}}_{3}$F and N${\mathrm{H}}_{2}$D by applying Stark pulses which shift the molecular levels into resonance with cw laser radiation. Numerical computations of the nutation effect agree with observation, and echo characteristics closely follow predictions of existing theories. The $T_{2}^{}{}_{}{}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ pressure dependence, from infrared-echo measurements, indicates that ${\mathrm{C}}^{13}$${\mathrm{H}}_{3}$F relaxes primarily by rotational energy transfer.

Photon echo and optical nutation have been easily observed in C13{\mathrm{C}}^{13}C13H3{\mathrm{H}}_{3}H3F and NH2{\mathrm{H}}_{2}H2D by applying Stark pulses which shift the molecular levels into resonance with cw laser radiation. Numerical computations of the nutation effect agree with observation, and echo characteristics closely follow predictions of existing theories. The $T_{2}^{}{}_{}{}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ pressure dependence, from infrared-echo measurements, indicates that C13{\mathrm{C}}^{13}C13H3{\mathrm{H}}_{3}H3F relaxes primarily by rotational energy transfer.
