Interaction of a dipolariton system with squeezed light from a parametric down-conversion process

Abstract

We investigate the photon statistics of the light transmitted by a dipolariton system in interaction with a squeezed light from a degenerate optical parametric oscillator. We show that the presence of the squeezed photons in the cavity considerably increases the excitonic intensities and leads to a narrowing of the widths and a duplication of the intensity peaks. Our study reveals that the outgoing light exhibits a strong thermally resistant squeezing. Furthermore, it turns out that the weak-coupling regime is favorable to a perfect squeezing depending on the detunings and the strength of the squeezed pump. For a weak coherent driving field, the proposed system presents a bunching effect of the emitted light.

Nonlinear dynamics in a dipolariton cavity with a squeezed vacuum

Houcem Jabri, Hichem Eleuch

Dipolaritons are quasiparticles formed in double quantum wells’ microcavities driven by a coherent field. Here, we investigate the correlations and the quantum fluctuations in the light emitted by a dipolariton cavity pumped by a laser. By studying the noise spectrum in the strong and weak coupling regimes, we show that the squeezing generated by the direct and indirect excitonic nonlinearities is strongly enhanced by coupling the system to a squeezed vacuum. As a consequence, this coupling transforms the statistical light propriety from coherent to highly squeezed states, depending on the squeeze parameter strength. Furthermore, the squeezed reservoir stabilizes the nonclassical effect even with the high fluctuations caused by indirect exciton nonlinearity. It turns out that the combination of excitonic nonlinearities and squeezed vacuum is a good solution for producing stable and strong squeezing.

Quantum correlations and optical effects in a quantum-well cavity with a second-order nonlinearity

Houcem Jabri

Abstract In this paper, we investigate the photon correlations and the statistical properties of light produced by an optical cavity with an embedded quantum well interacting with squeezed light. We show that the squeezed source substantially improves the intensity of the emitted light and generates a narrowing and a duplication of the spectrum peaks. With a strong dependence on frequency detuning, the cavity produces considerably squeezed radiation, and perfect squeezing is predicted for weak light–matter interactions. Furthermore, the system under consideration presents a bunching effect of the transmitted radiation resulting from weak pumping of the coherent field. The results obtained may have potential applications in the fields of very accurate measurement and quantum computing.

Quantum Noise and Squeezed Light by Dipolaritons in the Nonlinear Regime

Houcem Jabri, Hichem Eleuch

Abstract The quantum noise and the squeezing effect, in the transmitted light, by a dipolariton system formed by a double quantum wells microcavity in the strong coupling regime are investigated. It is shown that the indirect exciton nonlinearity generates stronger squeezing than the direct exciton nonlinearity, nevertheless produces very high fluctuations for some particular detunings and nonlinearities. The system shows a considerable sensitivity to the thermal excitations where the coupling to the direct and indirect excitonic thermal baths progressively destroys the nonclassical effect. Despite that, indirect exciton squeezing manifests a higher resistance against the thermal bath temperature. As a result, the emission field is strongly governed by the indirect excitons, varying between robust squeezing and excess noise.

Semiconductor cavity QED with squeezed light: Nonlinear regime

Eyob Alebachew Sete, Hichem Eleuch, Sumanta Das

We present a study of semiconductor cavity QED effects with squeezed light. We investigate the effects of external squeezed light produced by a subthreshold optical parametric down conversion on the quantum features of the cavity as well as output radiation in the presence of exciton-exciton scattering. It turns out that the width of the spectrum of the cavity field strongly depends on the degree of squeezing. This effect is observed both in weak- and strong-coupling regimes. Moreover, we show that the external squeezed light has a profound effect on the amount of squeezing of the output field.

Optical Kerr nonlinearity in quantum-well microcavities: From polariton to dipolariton

Houcem Jabri, Hichem Eleuch

In this paper, we investigate the nonlinear optical properties and photon correlations in a cavity containing quantum wells and interacting with a third-order nonlinear medium. More precisely, we study the interaction of the photonic Kerr nonlinearity with polariton and dipolariton quasiparticles in thermal environments. The optical bistability, the intensity spectrum, and the squeezing spectrum of the transmitted radiation are analyzed. It is shown that the regime of the bistability is reached in the dipolariton cavity faster than attained by the polariton system. Furthermore, the increase of the coupling with the wells reduces the squeezing. More interestingly, it turns out that the additional interactions arising in the dipolariton cavity, between direct and indirect excitons, slow down the variation of the squeezing. As a consequence, dipolaritons offer a greater margin of squeezed light than polaritons, and also than the ${\ensuremath{\chi}}^{(3)}$ medium in the absence of quantum wells. Moreover, the dipolariton system is found to be much more robust against the bath temperature in the weak-coupling regime.

Interaction of a quantum well with squeezed light: Quantum-statistical properties

Eyob Alebachew Sete, Hichem Eleuch

We investigate the quantum statistical properties of the light emitted by a quantum well interacting with squeezed light from a degenerate subthreshold optical parametric oscillator. We obtain analytical solutions for the pertinent quantum Langevin equations in the strong-coupling and low-excitation regimes. Using these solutions we calculate the intensity spectrum, autocorrelation function, and quadrature squeezing for the fluorescent light. We show that the fluorescent light exhibits bunching and quadrature squeezing. We also show that the squeezed light leads to narrowing of the width of the spectrum of the fluorescent light.
