Nonideal phase-conjugate resonators—a canonical operator analysis

Moshe Nazarathy, Joseph Shamir, Amos A. Hardy

An unfolded equivalent model is constructed for the round-trip transfer operator of a phase-conjugate mirror (PCM) resonator with a cavity described by complex ABCD ray matrix elements, taking into account hard-edge mirror apertures and the possible frequency shift of the wave reflected by the PCM. The treatment makes use of recently developed canonical operator techniques and extends these methods further to incorporate wavelength variation and the effect of apertures.

Fundamental Modes of Stimulated Scattering Phase-conjugate Resonators

Wang Shaomin, H. Weber

An equivalent transfer matrix describing the operation of stimulated scattering phase-conjugate mirrors is given. By this matrix the fundamental eigenmodes of a resonator with such a phase-conjugate mirror can be derived. It is shown that this resonator is unconditionally confined, absolutely dynamically stable, and stable against perturbations.

Analytical description of noise in phase-conjugate resonators

Ari T. Friberg, Rainer Salomaa

An analytical method is derived for the evaluation of the average conjugate and specular reflections of a probe field from a phase-conjugate resonator. Statistical fluctuations described by Poissonian sudden jumps may simultaneously occur in the amplitude and phase of both the probe field and the complex reflectivity of the phase-conjugate mirror. In the possible noise scenarios any mixture of phase and amplitude jump probabilities can be included. The resonator is assumed to stay in the stable regime. It is shown that phase fluctuations have the strongest influence on the resonator performance. Amplitude noise is important only if jumps are infrequent and if the resonator operates close to the instability threshold or if the phase-conjugate-mirror reflectivity is approximately unity.
