Runaway Evaporative Cooling to Bose-Einstein Condensation of Cesium Atoms in Optical Traps

Chen-Lung Hung, Xibo Zhang, Nathan Gemelke +1 more

We demonstrate a simple scheme to achieve fast, runaway evaporative cooling to Bose-Einstein condensation with ~105 optically trapped cesium atoms in 2~4 seconds by tilting an optical potential with a magnetic field gradient.
