The renormalization group and the universality of critical exponents

Melville S. Green, Prabodh Shukla

A class of renormalization groups characterized as the general Gaussian renormalization group is defined. It includes the sharp cutoff renormalization group of Wilson, the linear renormalization group of Bell and Wilson, and the incomplete‐integration renormalization group of Wilson. The renormalization group approach to critical phenomena and the expansion around four dimensions is reviewed. The fixed point of the general Gaussian renormalization group is determined to order ε2, where ε=4−d (d is the dimensionality of the system), and the critical exponents are determined to the same order. The main conclusion is that the exponents do not depend on the cutoff functions of the renormalization group.

O(N)-invariant Hierarchical Renormalization Group Fixed Points by Algebraic Numerical Computation and ε-Expansion

J. Goettker-Schnetmann

Generalizing methods developed by Pinn, Pordt and Wieczerkowski for the hierarchical model with one component (N=1) and dimensions d between 2 and 4 we compute O(N)-symmetric fixed points of the hierarchical renormalization group equation for some N and d with 0 < d < 4 and -2 <= N <= 20. The spectra of the linearized RG equation at the fixed points are calculated and the critical exponents νare extracted from the spectrum and compared to Borel-Pade-resummed ε-expansion.

Derivative expansion for computing critical exponents of O(N) symmetric models at next-to-next-to-leading order

Zoltán Péli

We apply the derivative expansion of the effective action in the exact renormalization group equation up to fourth order to the Z_{2} and O(N) symmetric scalar models in d=3 Euclidean dimensions. We compute the critical exponents ν, η, and ω using polynomial expansion in the field. We obtain our predictions for the exponents employing two regulators widely used in exact renormalization group computations. We apply Wynn's epsilon algorithm to improve the predictions for the critical exponents, extrapolating beyond the next-to-next-to-leading order prediction of the derivative expansion.
