Asymptotic localization of symbol correspondences for spin systems

Abstract

Quantum or classical mechanical systems symmetric under $SU(2)$ are called spin systems. A $SU(2)$-equivariant map from $(n+1)$-square matrices to functions on the $2$-sphere, satisfying some basic properties, is called a spin-$j$ symbol correspondence ($n=2j\in\mathbb N$). Given a spin-$j$ symbol correspondence, the matrix algebra induces a twisted $j$-algebra of symbols. In this paper, we establish a new, more intuitive criterion for when the Poisson algebra of smooth functions on the $2$-sphere emerges asymptotically ($n\to\infty$) from the sequence of twisted $j$-algebras of symbols. This new, more geometric criterion, which in many cases is equivalent to the numerical criterion obtained in [Rios&Straume], is now given in terms of a classical (asymptotic) localization of the symbols of projectors (quantum pure states). For some important kinds of symbol correspondence sequences, classical localization of all projector-symbols is equivalent to asymptotic emergence of the Poisson algebra. But in general, such a classical localization condition is stronger than Poisson emergence. We thus also consider some weaker notions of asymptotic localization of projector-symbols. Finally, we obtain some relations between asymptotic localization of a symbol correspondence sequence and its quantizations of the classical spin system.

Sobre correspondências de símbolos para sistemas de spin e de quark

Alcântara, Pedro Antonio Soares de

In this work, we investigate the correspondence principle applied to mechanical systems symmetric under a compact Lie group by means of symbol correspondences. In the first part, we consider systems symmetric under SU(2), the so-called spin systems: we verify conditions under which symbol correspondences present localization of pure states at the semiclassical limit, which provides a new criterion for the emergence of classical dynamics; then, we introduce the notion of sequential quantization from which we get a new characterization of asymptotic localization. In the second part, we begin the study of symbol correspondences for systems symmetric under SU(3), the quark systems: we characterize the symbol correspondences for such systems and obtain some properties and formulas for twisted products induced on the spaces of symbols.

Asymptotic Quantization of a Particle on a Sphere

José Luis Romero, A. B. Klimov

Quantum systems whose states are tightly distributed among several invariant subspaces (variable spin systems) can be described in terms of distributions in a four-dimensional phase-space T∗S2 in the limit of large average angular momentum. The cotangent bundle T∗S2 is also the classical manifold for systems with E(3) symmetry group with appropriately fixed Casimir operators. This allows us to employ the asymptotic form of the star-product proper for variable (integer) spin systems to develop a deformation quantization scheme for a particle moving on the two-dimensional sphere, whose observables are elements of e(3) algebra and the corresponding phase-space is T∗S2. We show that the standard commutation relations of the e(3) algebra are recovered from the corresponding classical Poisson brackets and the explicit expressions for the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of some quantized classical observables (such as the angular momentum operators and their squares) are obtained.

Description of quantum spin using functions on the sphere S2

J.-P. Amiet, M. B. Cibils

An overview of isomorphic correspondences between spin algebra and algebras of functions on the sphere is given. In addition, the authors show that in one case the induced product between the spin function and another function is expressible by the action of a first-order differential operator correcting the ordinary product. This deformation leads to the geometric quantization of classical spin. The classical limit is studied for a class of correspondences.

Classical aspect of spin angular momentum in geometric quantum mechanics

H. A. S. Ahmad, Umair Abdul Halim, M. S. Nurisya +1 more

Geometric Quantum Mechanics is a formulation demonstrating how quantum theory may be cast in the language of Hamiltonian phase-space dynamics. Within this framework, the classical properties of spin 1/2, spin 1 and spin 3/2 particles have been studied. The correspondence between the Poisson bracket and commutator algebras for these systems was shown by explicitly computing the value of the commutator of spin operators and comparing it with the Poisson bracket of the corresponding classical observables. This study was extended by comparing the Casimir operator and its classical counterpart. The results showed that there exists a correspondence between classical and quantum Casimir operators at least for the case of spin 1/2. This research clearly shows the limit of classical notions to describe the purely quantum concept.

Geometric Formulation of Berezin Quantization

Rasoul Rokhnizadeh, H. D. Doebner

In this paper we try to formulate the Berezin quantization on projective Hilbert space P(H) and use its geometric structure. It will be shown that the star product in Berezin quantiza- tion is equivalent to the Poisson bracket on P(H) and the Berezin method to construction a correspondence between a given classical theory and a given quantum theory is used to define a classical limit for geometric quantum mechanics. the covariant symbols. These symbols are expectation values of the observables in terms of coherent states: the holomorphic functions on classical phase space M that is assumed to be aKmanifold. Berezin (2) showed that the covariant symbols form a ∗-algebra which in limit → 0l eads to the Poisson algebra between the corresponding classical observables: The functions on the phase space M. In this paper we will see that the Berezin ∗-algebra is in fact a Poisson algebra which is induced by the Fubini-Study 2-form on space of coherent states. This space is defined as follows: coherent states span a dense subspace H of Hilbert space H. P( H), which is denoted by M, is aKmanifold with induced symplectic structure from P(H). Therefore the covariant symbols can be considered as functions on M. It is shown (13) that there exists an embedding mapping between the classical phase space M and M, by which to any point z ∈ M is associated ap ointZ ∈M. With this construction to all of the quantum observables are associated their covariant symbols, which form a Poisson algebra on M and since the corresponding classical observables form a Poisson algebra on M , the Berezin quantization is a systematic procedure to relate these two Poisson algebras. Also the relation of Berezin quantization and geometric for- mulation of quantum mechanics will be evident as follows. The geometric quantum mechanics is a formulation of quantum mechanics in projective Hilbert spaces. With our construction one sees that the Berezin quantization is an equivalent formulation and in addition gives a prescription as classical limit for geometric quantum mechanics (9).

SU(2)-Equivariant Quantum Channels: Semiclassical Analysis

Tommaso Aschieri, Błażej Ruba, Jan Philip Solovej

Abstract We study completely positive and trace-preserving equivariant maps between operators on irreducible representations of $${{\,\textrm{SU}\,}}(2)$$ SU ( 2 ) . We find asymptotic approximations of channels in the limit of large output representation and we compute traces of functions of channel outputs. Our main tool is quantization using coherent states. We provide quantitative error bounds for various semiclassical formulas satisfied by quantizations of functions on the sphere.
