Abstract

The development of intelligent Internet of vehicles (IoV) is based on communication technology, especially the quantum communication of hybrid entangled states based on orbital angular momentum (OAM). The quantum key distribution (QKD) method is demonstrated using hybrid entangled states with multi-degree of freedom and high purity based on OAM. First, the polarization entangled photon pairs are produced by two type I BBO crystals by means of spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC). The polarization-OAM hybrid entangled states are created by q-plate (QP) to realize QKD. It is found that the polarization entangled photon pairs have the characteristics of OAM. A single mode fiber (SMF) is proposed to filter the topological charge non-zero photons and purify the polarization entangled photon pairs. Then the purification setup with M-Z interferometer and beam rotator (BR) is presented which can purify the polarization-OAM hybrid entangled states. The high purity polarization-OAM hybrid entangled states are implemented, and the QP conversion rate of 3 secondary feedbacks is 99.84% theoretically. Analysis indicates that precise purity polarization-OAM hybrid entangled state can increase the fidelity of information and improve the anti-interference ability in this program without mutually unbiased bases (MUBs). The photon utilization rate, energy-efficient and low-latency communication can be greatly improved by using the OAM carrying information.

Entangled W state of multi degree of freedom system based on orbital angular momentum

Fan Rong-Hua, Banghong Guo, Guo Jian-Jun +3 more

We propose a method of generating the three-photon W state. The method uses parametric down-conversion process and hybrid entanglement swapping from multiphoton spin-entangled states to multiphoton orbital angular momentum (OAM) entangled states, with the aid of a pair of polarization photons. They generate W state entangled in different degrees of freedom of polarization and OAM with a high-dimensional Hilbert space. By simply changing the methods of generating a polarization-OAM-linear momentum entangled W state. Our method produces two mutually symmetric W states with strong entanglement and high dimension, which is expected to realize the secure communication of extending quantum bits.

Photonic technologies for free-space quantum communication

BARIGELLI, PAOLO

Quantum information and quantum optics offer powerful innovative tools for secure communication and cryptography, with Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) becoming a standard technology in the cryptographic world. By exploiting fundamental principles such as quantum superposition, entanglement, and the no-cloning theorem, QKD enables two users to establish a shared secret key with information-theoretic security. Quantum communication is a fundamental element for the realization of the quantum internet, a network of distant nodes connected by quantum channel. The realization of such networks requires methods to distribute states and correlations with high fidelity and low losses. This thesis explores the use of innovative photonic technologies for the realization of experiment aiming at improving quantum communication and quantum channels. Single photons based on QD are generated on-demand and show high purity, near-optimal indistinguishability and low multi-photons emission. By exploiting the features of these photons, a method to realize entangled states is implemented. Using the polarization degree of freedom, these entangled states are ideal candidates for free-space QKD protocols based on the Bell’s inequality. To address the problem of the reference frame alignment using the polarization, hybrid states are studied and implemented. The specific combination of polarization and orbital angular momentum (OAM) can produce photons that are not modified by rotation of the reference frame. We implemented an experiment to realize a QKD that is independent on the relative rotation of the two user. The final goal of my thesis was devoted to the in-field demonstration of quantum teleportation as a fundamental building block of distributed quantum networks, enabling the reliable transmission of quantum information between remote nodes. Exploiting the free-space infrastructure in the "Sapienza" University of Rome, a link of around ∼ 300 m, we implemented the quantum teleportation between two different QDs showing the possibility of using this technology into real-case scenario. The results obtained show not only that QDs are ideal sources for quantum communication, but also the possibility of using new states to improve current technologies, advancing the development of efficient and reliable quantum networks.

Generation of hybrid polarization-orbital angular momentum entangled states

Eleonora Nagali, Fabio Sciarrino

Hybrid entangled states exhibit entanglement between different degrees of freedom of a particle pair and thus could be useful for asymmetric optical quantum network where the communication channels are characterized by different properties. We report the first experimental realization of hybrid polarization-orbital angular momentum (OAM) entangled states by adopting a spontaneous parametric down conversion source of polarization entangled states and a polarization-OAM transferrer. The generated quantum states have been characterized through quantum state tomography. Finally, the violation of Bell's inequalities with the hybrid two photon system has been observed.

Direct transfer of classical non-separable state into hybrid entangled two photon state

M. V. Jabir, N. Apurv Chaitanya, Manoj V. Mathew +1 more

Hybrid entangled states, having entanglement between different degrees-of-freedom (DoF) of a particle pair, are of great interest for quantum information science and communication protocols. Among different DoFs, the hybrid entangled states encoded with polarization and orbital angular momentum (OAM) allow the generation of qubit-qudit entangled states, macroscopic entanglement with very high quanta of OAM and improvement in angular resolution in remote sensing. Till date, such hybrid entangled states are generated by using a high-fidelity polarization entangled state and subsequent imprinting of chosen amount of OAM using suitable mode converters such as spatial light modulator in complicated experimental schemes. Given that the entangled sources have feeble number of photons, loss of photons during imprinting of OAM using diffractive optical elements limits the use of such hybrid state for practical applications. Here we report, on a simple experimental scheme to generate hybrid entangled state in polarization and OAM through direct transfer of classical non-separable state of the pump beam in parametric down conversion process. As a proof of principle, using local non-separable pump state of OAM mode l=3, we have produced quantum hybrid entangled state with entanglement witness parameter of W-1.25 violating by 8 standard deviation. The generic scheme can be used to produce hybrid entangled state between two photons differing by any quantum number through proper choice of non-separable state of the pump beam.

Entanglement of very high orbital angular momentum

Robert Fickler, Peizhe Li, Radek Łapkiewicz +5 more

Orbital angular momentum (OAM) of single photons represents a new optical degree of freedom for the entanglement of photons [1,2]. One physical realization of OAM carrying light beams are the so called Laguerre-Gaussian modes of light with the required helical phase structure. One big advantage over the well known polarization degree of freedom is the possibility of realizing entanglement between two photons with very high quantum numbers. However, the creation of photonic OAM entanglement using the widely used spontaneous parametric downconversion process is limited by the strongly reduced efficiency for higher momenta [3]. We have realized a novel method to create entanglement between two photons with a very high difference in their OAM quantum number and momentum respectively. Furthermore we have explored hybrid entanglement of photons in the OAM and polarization degree of freedom.
