Abstract

The phase-modulated quadrature squeezing in the system that composed of two coupled cavities interacting with a two-level atom is investigated. The variances of the amplitude and phase quadrature of the output field are calculated. It turns out that the squeezing behaviors of the output field can be obviously modified due to the phase difference of the coupling strengths between the atom and the two cavities. The squeezing in one quadrature (i.e., phase quadrature) can be transferred into another (i.e., amplitude quadrature), or the quadrature squeezing located at the low-frequency region can be transferred into the high-frequency region by modulating the relative phase of the coupling strengths. Furthermore, the effects of the decay mismatch between the two cavities and the coupling mismatch between the atom and the cavities on the quadrature squeezing have been discussed. The results show that both the decay mismatch and the coupling mismatch play a positive role in generating better quadrature squeezing.

Driven quadrature and spin squeezing in a cavity-coupled ensemble of two-level states

Haitham A. R. El-Ella

The generated magnitude of quadrature squeezing in a cavity-coupled ensemble, which is continuously driven using a coherent off-axis field, is theoretically explored. Using a truncated set of equations of motion derived from a Dicke Hamiltonian, steady-state quadrature squeezing of the cavity field is numerically calculated to approach a limit of $\ensuremath{-}3\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}\mathrm{dB}$, while frequency-modulated quadrature squeezing approaches a limit of $\ensuremath{-}14\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}\mathrm{dB}$, in the absence of pure dephasing and as a function of the ensemble's size and detuning. The impact of pure dephasing on steady-state quadrature squeezing is shown to be mitigated by increased detuning of the driving field, while frequency-modulated squeezing is only shielded in a regime where the cumulative coupling and driving rates are in excess of the pure-dephasing rate. Spin-squeezed entanglement is also calculated to occur simultaneously with weakly driven frequency-modulated quadrature squeezing.

Output field-quadrature measurements and squeezing in ultrastrong cavity-QED

Roberto Stassi, Salvatore Savasta, Luigi Garziano +2 more

We study the squeezing of output quadratures of an electro-magnetic field escaping from a resonator coupled to a general quantum system with arbitrary interaction strengths. The generalized theoretical analysis of output squeezing proposed here is valid for all the interaction regimes of cavity-quantum electrodynamics: from the weak to the strong, ultrastrong, and deep coupling regimes. For coupling rates comparable or larger then the cavity resonance frequency, the standard input–output theory for optical cavities fails to calculate the variance of output field-quadratures and predicts a non-negligible amount of output squeezing, even if the system is in its ground state. Here we show that, for arbitrary interaction strength and for general cavity-embedded quantum systems, no squeezing can be found in the output-field quadratures if the system is in its ground state. We also apply the proposed theoretical approach to study the output squeezing produced by: (i) an artificial two-level atom embedded in a coherently-excited cavity; and (ii) a cascade-type three-level system interacting with a cavity field mode. In the latter case the output squeezing arises from the virtual photons of the atom-cavity dressed states. This work extends the possibility of predicting and analyzing the results of continuous-variable optical quantum-state tomography when optical resonators interact very strongly with other quantum systems.

Cavity-Induced Enhancement of Squeezing in Resonance Fluorescence of a V-Type Three-Level Atom

Zhou Lu, Gao‐xiang Li, Mingsheng Zhan

The quadrature squeezing spectra in the resonance fluorescence of a V-type three-level atom driven by a coherent field and coupled to a single-mode cavity is investigated. For weak excitation, the fluorescence field exhibit squeezing in the out-of-phase quadrature. The coupling between the atom and the cavity mode can greatly enhance the squeezing centred at the laser frequency. More importantly, for strong excitation, under the effect of the cavity-atom coupling, the in-phase quadrature of fluorescence can exhibit two-mode squeezing at the two inner sideband frequencies. By working in the dressed-state representation and hiring secular approximation, we give an analytical explanation for the effect. The result shows, under appropriate conditions, the squeezing can be greatly enhanced by appropriately tuning the cavity resonant frequency.

SQUEEZING SPECTRUM OF RESONANCE FLUORESCENCE FOR A CAVITY COUPLED TWO-LEVEL ATOM

ZIQING WANG, Shun-Jin Wang, Guodong Wang +1 more

We investigate the modification of squeezing spectrum of resonance fluorescence of a weakly driven two-level atom coupled with a frequency-tunable cavity mode with finite bandwidth. For atom-laser resonance or small atom-laser detuning, as the cavity resonant frequency adjusted, the squeezing switches between the phase quadratures. When the coupling between the atom and the cavity increases, the degree of squeezing in the out-of-phase quadrature decreases, while the noise in the in-phase quadrature decreases and can be squeezed. For proper atom-laser detuning, with the cavity-laser detuning increasing, the degree of squeezing in the in-phase quadrature increases and the squeezing spectrum exhibits two-mode squeezing.

Atomic quadrature squeezing and quantum state transfer in a hybrid atom–optomechanical cavity with two Duffing mechanical oscillators

Farzaneh Momeni, M. H. Naderi

In this paper, we investigate theoretically the quantum state transfer in a laser-driven hybrid optomechanical cavity with two Duffing-like anharmonic movable end mirrors containing an ensemble of identical two-level trapped atoms. The quantum state transfer from the Bogoliubov modes of the two anharmonic oscillators to the atomic mode results in the atomic quadrature squeezing beyond the standard quantum limit of 3 dB, which can be controlled by both the optomechanical and atom-field coupling strengths. Interestingly, the generated atomic squeezing can be made robust against the noise sources by means of the Duffing anharmonicity. Moreover, the results reveal that the presence of the Duffing anharmonicity provides the possibility of transferring strongly squeezed states between the two mechanical oscillators in a short operating time and with high fidelity.

Squeezing Effects of Field with a Time-Varying Frequency in the Multiphoton Jaynes-Cummings Model

Lu Dao

Using the multiphoton Jaynes-Cummings model, the squeezing effect of the field in the system of a two-level atom interacting with the single mode coherent field through mutiphoton transition was studied. The frequency of the field varying with time in the form of sine was considered. The influences of amplitude and angular frequency of the field-frequency variation on squeezing effects of the field were discussed by numerical calculations. The influences of mean photon number of the field on squeezing effects of the field were also discussed.Calculation results indicate that the squeezing effects of field strengthens with the increase of the amplitude u of field-frequency variation and weaken with the increase of mean photon number of the field. The time-evolution behavior of quadrature squeezing function Q1 is modulated by the field-frequency variation. The modulation intensity is enchanced with the increase of the amplitude u of field-frequency variation, and when the amplitude u of field-frequency variation is larger than a fixed value, the time-evolution of quadrature squeezing function Q1 will display quasi-periodicity oscillation behavior. Its oscillation frequency agrees with the angular frequency of field-frequency variation.
