Zero-temperature properties of quantum spin models on the triangular lattice III: the Heisenberg antiferromagnet

Abstract

The calculation of two- and four-spin correlations of the [Formula: see text] Heisenberg antiferromagnet has been extended to an N = 21 site triangular lattice. The infinite-lattice ground state energy per bond is estimated to be E0/3NJ = −0.3678 ± 0.005 by fitting a quadratic in 1/N to the finite N data. The plaquette chirality order is slightly greater than in the XY antiferromagnet. The two-spin correlation is conjectured to decay as [Formula: see text].

Zero-temperature properties of quantum spin models on the triangular lattice II: the antiferromagnet

The calculation of two- and four-spin correlations of the [Formula: see text] antiferromagnet has been extended to an N = 21 site triangular lattice. By fitting a quadratic in 1/N to the nearest neighbour transverse spin correlations, we have estimated the ground-state energy per bond on the infinite lattice to be E0/3NJ = −0.2716 ± 0.005. The nearest neighbour longitudinal correlation is estimated to be [Formula: see text]. A short-range order parameter, the chirality, is defined and estimated for the infinite lattice. From the N dependence of the three sublattice or helical magnetization, the spin correlation is conjectured to decay algebraically as [Formula: see text].

The ground state of two quantum models of magnetism

J. Oitmaa, Donald D. Betts

The ground state energy and pair correlations have been computed exactly for the spin [Formula: see text] XY magnet and isotropic Heisenberg antiferromagnet, for a sequence of finite cells on the square and honeycomb lattices. Precise estimates of the ground state energy of the infinite lattices are obtained by extrapolation. It is predicted that the XY magnet has a non-zero transverse magnetization and the Heisenberg antiferromagnet has a non-zero staggered magnetization in the ground state.

Ground-state properties of the spin-\frac{1}{2} antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on the triangular lattice: a variational study based on entangled-plaquette states

Fabio Mezzacapo, J. I. Cirac

We study, on the basis of the general entangled-plaquette variational ansatz, the ground-state (GS) properties of the spin- antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on the triangular lattice. Our numerical estimates are in good agreement with available exact results and comparable, for large system sizes, to those computed via the best alternative numerical approaches, or by means of variational schemes based on specific (i.e. incorporating problem-dependent terms) trial wave functions (WFs). The extrapolation to the thermodynamic limit of our results for lattices comprising up to N =324 spins yields an upper bound of the GS energy per site (in units of the exchange coupling) of − 0.5458(2) [−0.4074(1) for the XX model], while the estimated infinite-lattice order parameter is 0.3178(5) (i.e. ∼64% of the classical value).

Magnetization of the spin- 12 Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the triangular lattice

Qian Li, Li Hong, Jize Zhao +2 more

After decades of debate, now there is a rough consensus that at zero temperature the spin-$1/2$ Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the triangular lattice is three-sublattice ${120}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$ magnetically ordered, in contrast to a quantum spin liquid as originally proposed. However, there remains considerable discrepancy in the magnetization reported among various methods. To resolve this issue, in this work we revisit this model by the tensor-network state algorithm. The ground-state energy per bond ${E}_{b}$ and magnetization per spin ${M}_{0}$ in the thermodynamic limit are obtained with high precision. The former is estimated to be ${E}_{b}=\ensuremath{-}0.18334(10)$. This value agrees well with that from the series expansion. The three-sublattice magnetic order is firmly confirmed and the magnetization is determined as ${M}_{0}=0.161(5)$. It is about $32%$ of its classical value and slightly below the lower bound from the series expansion. In comparison with the best estimated value by Monte Carlo and density-matrix renormalization group, our result is about $20%$ smaller. This magnetic order is consistent with further analysis of the three-body correlation. Our work thus provides benchmark results for this prototypical model.

Exact diagonalization of the S = 1/2 XY ferromagnet on a new set of finite triangular lattices at T = 0

Donald D. Betts, K S Lee, Hua Lin

We have obtained 85 finite triangular lattices from 7 to 36 vertices. We display two very good finite lattices – 21a (well-known) and 22a (previously unknown). Over the past decade several physicists have used exact diagonalization on five tripartite triangular lattices from N = 9 to 36 to study the Heisenberg and XY antiferromagnet on the infinite triangular lattice. Nine more tripartite triangular lattices are available as shown below in the text. Our exact diagonalization of the S = 1/2 XY ferromagnetic energies and magnetization leads, by scalar equations, to the properties on the infinite lattice. We found that all but 10 of the 85 are good lattices. Finally, we obtained spin–spin correlations of two kinds, xx and zz. PACS Nos.: 75.10Jm, 05.05+q
