Abstract

In order to provide privacy provisioning for the secondary information, we propose an energy harvesting based secure transmission scheme for the cognitive multi-relay networks. In the proposed scheme, two secondary relays harvest energy to power the secondary transmitter and assist the secondary secure transmission without interfere the secondary transmission. Specifically, the proposed secure transmission policy is implemented into two phases. In the first phase, the secondary transmitter transmits the secrecy information and jamming signal through the power split method. After harvesting energy from a fraction of received radio-frequency signals, one secondary relay adopts the amplify-and-forward relay protocol to assist the secondary secure transmission and the other secondary relay just forwards the new designed jamming signal to protect the secondary privacy information and degrade the jamming interference at the secondary receiver. For the proposed scheme, we first analyze the average secrecy rate, the secondary secrecy outage probability, and the ergodic secrecy rate, and derive their closed-form expressions. Following the above results, we optimally allocate the transmission power such that the secrecy rate is maximized under the secrecy outage probability constraint. For the optimization problem, an AI based simulated annealing algorithm is proposed to allocate the transmit power. Numerical results are presented to validate the performance analytical results and show the performance superiority of the proposed scheme in terms of the average secrecy rate.

Primary Secure Communication with the Cooperation of Energy Harvesting Secondary System

Dawei Wang, Pinyi Ren, Qinghe Du +2 more

Aiming at providing secure provisioning for the primary system, in this paper, we propose an energy harvesting based cooperative communication (EHCC) scheme which will protect the primary confidential message from eavesdropping under the constraint of the secondary quality-of-service (QoS) requirement. To do so, the secondary receiver (SR) firstly transmits jamming signal to protect the primary transmission and then, the secondary transmit (ST) harvests part of the received signals and forwards the remaining signals to the primary receiver (PR) concurrently with the secondary transmission. In our proposed scheme, radio- frequency energy harvesting will improve ST's maximum transmit power and the jamming interference at SR can be directly cancelled as SR has transmitted it. Then, we try to allocate the transmit power and design energy harvesting parameters in such a way that the secrecy capacity of the primary system is maximized under the constraint of the secondary QoS requirement. In addition, an iterative algorithm is proposed to solve this non-convex problem. Moreover, we also analyze the primary secrecy capacities and allocate the resource for the asymptotic scenarios. Simulation results demonstrate the performance superiority of our proposed scheme over the conventional cooperative secure communication scheme in terms of the primary secrecy capacity.

Secure Cooperative Transmission in Cognitive AF Relay Systems with Destination-Aided Jamming and Energy Harvesting

Runcong Su, Ying Wang, Ruijin Sun

In this paper, we propose a destination-aided jamming scheme for secrecy simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) in cognitive relay networks. In which, an energy-constrained secondary transmitter (ST) assists to forward the traffic from a primary transmitter (PT) to a primary receiver (PR) and collaborates with PR-aided jamming to prevent the eavesdropper around PR from eavesdropping, in exchange for communicating with its own receiver in the same frequency. To maximize the rate of ST, we jointly design the relay processing matrix, beamforming vector and power split ratio under the constraint of PT secrecy rate demand. For tackling the non-convex problem, the semi-definite relaxation technique and Charnes-Cooper transformation are adopted. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed scheme can significantly improve the performance of communications.

Wireless Powered Cooperative Jamming for Secrecy Multi-AF Relaying Networks

Hong Xing, Kai‐Kit Wong, Arumugam Nallanathan +1 more

This paper studies secrecy transmission with the aid of a group of wireless energy harvesting-enabled amplify-and-forward (AF) relays performing cooperative jamming (CJ) and relaying. The source node in the network does simultaneous wireless information and power transfer with each relay employing a power splitting receiver in the first phase; each relay further divides its harvested power for forwarding the received signal and generating artificial noise for jamming the eavesdroppers in the second transmission phase. In the centralized case with global channel state information (CSI), we provide the closed-form expressions for the optimal and/or suboptimal AF-relay beamforming vectors to maximize the achievable secrecy rate subject to individual power constraints of the relays, using the technique of semidefinite relaxation (SDR), which is proved to be tight. A fully distributed algorithm utilizing only local CSI at each relay is also proposed as a performance benchmark. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed multi-AF relaying with CJ over other suboptimal designs.

Secure Communication via a Wireless Energy Harvesting Untrusted Relay

Sanket S. Kalamkar, Adrish Banerjee

The broadcast nature of the wireless medium allows unintended users to eavesdrop on confidential information transmission. In this regard, we investigate the problem of secure communication between a source and a destination via a wireless energy harvesting untrusted node that acts as a helper to relay the information; however, the source and destination nodes wish to keep the information confidential from the relay node. To realize the positive secrecy rate, we use destination-assisted jamming. Being an energy-starved node, the untrusted relay harvests energy from the received radio-frequency (RF) signals, which include the source's information signal and the destination's jamming signal. Thus, we utilize the jamming signal efficiently by leveraging it as a useful energy source. At the relay, to enable energy harvesting and information processing, we adopt power splitting (PS) and time switching (TS) policies. To evaluate the secrecy performance of this proposed scenario, we derive analytical expressions for two important metrics, viz., the secrecy outage probability and the ergodic secrecy rate. The numerical analysis reveals design insights into the effects of different system parameters such as PS ratio, energy harvesting time, target secrecy rate, transmit signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), relay location, and energy conversion efficiency factor, on secrecy performance. Specifically, the PS policy achieves better optimal secrecy outage probability and optimal ergodic secrecy rate than that of the TS policy at higher target secrecy rate and transmit SNR, respectively.

Joint Beamforming and Power Splitting Design for Physical Layer Security in Cognitive SWIPT Decode-and-Forward Relay Networks

Xiaorong Xu, Andi Hu, Yingbiao Yao +1 more

In an underlay cognitive simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) network, communication from secondary user (SU) to secondary destination (SD) is accomplished with decode-and-forward (DF) relays.Multiple energy-constrained relays are assumed to harvest energy from SU via power splitting (PS) protocol and complete SU secure information transmission with beamforming.Hence, physical layer security (PLS) is investigated in cognitive SWIPT network. In order to interfere with eavesdropper and improve relay's energy efficiency, a destination-assisted jamming scheme is proposed.Namely, SD transmits artificial noise (AN) to interfere with eavesdropping, while jamming signal can also provide harvested energy to relays.Beamforming vector and power splitting ratio are jointly optimized with the objective of SU secrecy capacity maximization. We solve this non-convex optimization problem via a general two-stage procedure.Firstly, we obtain the optimal beamforming vector through semi-definite relaxation (SDR) method with a fixed power splitting ratio.Secondly, the best power splitting ratio can be obtained by one-dimensional search. We provide simulation results to verify the proposed solution.Simulation results show that the scheme achieves the maximum SD secrecy rate with appropriate selection of power splitting ratio, and the proposed scheme guarantees security in cognitive SWIPT networks.

Zahra Mobini, Mohammadali Mohammadi

Security and energy are two critical Issues for emerging wireless networks and thus we study wireless energy harvesting and physical-layer security for a spectrum-sharing network with a multi-antenna full-duplex secondary receiver in the presence of an eavesdropper. We adopt a time-switching strategy where in the first phase, secondary users are powered through wireless energy transfer from the primary source. In the second phase, the secondary transmitter and receiver use the harvested energy to transmit the information and jamming signal, respectively. We propose a beamforming scheme at the secondary receiver with the main purpose of minimizing the outage probability of the secondary data transmission and maximizing the achievable secrecy rate of the primary system. We derive analytical expression for the outage probability at the secondary receiver and the achievable secrecy rate of the primary network. Moreover, asymptotic closed-form outage probability is presented. Numerical simulations verify the performance of the proposed scheme and analytical results and allow us to investigate the impact of the key system parameters on the network performance.
