Abstract

The problem of power allocation with uncoordinated cooperative jamming is addressed in this paper to enhance the physical layer security of the single-input-single-output wiretap channel with single-antenna jammers. Differing from the existing works concerning the secrecy rate maximization, this paper studies the problem of minimizing the secrecy outage probability with fixed secrecy rate, where the channel state information concerning the eavesdropper is only known statistically. This problem is formulated as an optimization problem of power allocation for the jamming signals. We prove that the optimization problem is convex in essence, and the optimal solution is thus conveniently obtained by using the methods of golden section search and bi-section search. Simulation results show that the proposed approach is very efficient and can significantly enhance the physical layer security by reducing the secrecy outage probability.

Secrecy Rate Maximization With Uncoordinated Cooperative Jamming by Single-Antenna Helpers Under Secrecy Outage Probability Constraint

Pengcheng Mu, Xiaoyan Hu, Bo Wang +1 more

The issue of physical layer security for single-input-multiple-output (SIMO) wiretap channel with uncoordinated cooperative jamming (UCJ) is addressed in this letter, and we focus on power allocation in secrecy rate maximization (SRM) problem. Differing from the existing works, a practical UCJ scheme is proposed by using multiple single-antenna helpers where each helper transmits a jamming signal independently to confound the eavesdropper. Assuming that statistical channel state information (CSI) concerning the eavesdropper is available, a modified DC (difference of convex function) programming method is provided to solve the SRM problem under secrecy outage probability constraint and an achievable solution of power allocation is obtained. Numerical results show that the proposed scheme has satisfactory secrecy performance especially when the number of helpers is large.

Minimization of Secrecy Outage Probability With Artificial-Noise-Aided Beamforming for MISO Wiretap Channels

Darui Hu, Pengcheng Mu, Weile Zhang +1 more

The problem of optimal power allocation between the information-bearing signal and the artificial noise (AN) signal is addressed in this letter to enhance the physical layer security of the multiple-input-single-output wiretap channel. Differing from the existing works concerning the secrecy rate maximization, this letter studies the problem of minimizing the secrecy outage probability given the secrecy rate, where the channel state information concerning the eavesdropper is modeled as quasi-static Rayleigh fading and only known statistically. After formulating the problem as an optimization problem of power allocation, we prove that the optimal solution can be conveniently obtained by using the method of bi-section search. Simulation results show that the proposed power allocation method is efficient and can enhance the physical layer security by reducing the secrecy outage probability.

Secrecy rate maximization for SIMO wiretap channel with uncoordinated cooperative jamming under secrecy outage probability constraint

Xiaoyan Hu, Pengcheng Mu, Bo Wang +3 more

A practical uncoordinated cooperative jamming (UCJ) scheme with multiple single-antenna helpers is proposed in this paper to enhance the physical layer security of single-input-multiple-output (SIMO) wiretap channel. In the scheme, both the intended receiver and the eavesdropper are equipped with multiple antennas and apply the minimum mean-square error (MMSE) combiner. The multiple uncoordinated single-antenna helpers transmit jamming signals independently to confound the eavesdropper, and we focus on power allocation for the helpers to solve the secrecy rate maximization (SRM) problem. Assuming that the statistical channel state information (CSI) concerning the eavesdropper is available, a convex conservative secrecy outage probability (SOP) constraint is derived and then used to solve the SRM problem with DC (difference of convex function) programming method. Furthermore, a bisection-like refinement method is provided to find a quality solution of the SRM problem with the original SOP constraint. Numerical results show that the proposed scheme has good secrecy performance especially when the number of helpers is large.

Secure Communications With Cooperative Jamming: Optimal Power Allocation and Secrecy Outage Analysis

Kanapathippillai Cumanan, George C. Alexandropoulos, Zhiguo Ding +1 more

This paper studies the secrecy rate maximization problem of a secure wireless communication system in the presence of multiple eavesdroppers. The security of the communication link is enhanced through cooperative jamming with the help of multiple jammers. First, a feasibility condition is derived to achieve a positive secrecy rate at the destination. Then, we solve the original secrecy rate maximization problem, which is not convex in terms of power allocation at the jammers. To circumvent this nonconvexity, the achievable secrecy rate is approximated for a given power allocation at the jammers, and the approximated problem is formulated into a geometric programming one. Based on this approximation, an iterative algorithm has been developed to obtain the optimal power allocation at the jammers. Next, we provide a bisection approach, based on 1-D search, to validate the optimality of the proposed algorithm. In addition, by assuming Rayleigh fading, the secrecy outage probability (SOP) of the proposed cooperative jamming scheme is analyzed. More specifically, a single-integral form expression for the SOP is derived for the most general case, as well as a closed-form expression for the special case of two cooperative jammers and one eavesdropper. Simulation results have been provided to validate the convergence and the optimality of the proposed algorithm, as well as the theoretical derivations of the presented SOP analysis.

On the Secrecy Rate Maximization with Uncoordinated Cooperative Jamming by Single-Antenna Helpers

Xiaoyan Hu, Pengcheng Mu, Bo Wang +1 more

A practical uncoordinated cooperative jamming (UCJ) scheme is proposed in this paper to enhance the physical layer security of the single-input-single-output (SISO) wiretap channel. Differing from the existing works, all the helpers in this UCJ scheme are uncoordinated single-antenna uplink users, and each helper transmits a jamming signal independently to confound the eavesdropper. The intended receiver plays the role of base station in the cellular systems as well as a control center to properly allocate the jamming power of each helper to maximize the secrecy rate. Two cases are addressed in solving the secrecy rate maximization problem, namely, the global channel state information (CSI) case and the partial CSI case. The optimal solution is obtained in the global CSI case, and a near-optimal solution is obtained under the secrecy outage probability constraint in the partial CSI case. Numerical results show that the performance of the proposed scheme is comparable with the existing works.

Our purpose is to design the jamming power of the helpers under individual or sum power constraints to maximize the secrecy rate with the assumption that global channel state information (CSI) is available. A robust iterative optimization method for power allocation is given to solve the SRM problem, and numerical results are finally provided to illustrate the performance of the proposed method in comparison with the existing works.
