Self-homodyne tomography of a twin-beam state

Giacomo Mauro D’Ariano, Michael Vasilyev, Prem Kumar

A self-homodyne detection scheme is proposed to perform two-mode tomography on a twin-beam state at the output of a nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier. This scheme has been devised to improve the matching between the local oscillator and the signal modes, which is the main limitation to the overall quantum efficiency in conventional homodyning. The feasibility of the measurement is analyzed on the basis of Monte Carlo simulations, studying the effect of nonunit quantum efficiency on detection of the correlation and the total photon-number oscillations of the twin-beam state.

Self-homodyne Tomography Measurement Of The Photon Statistics Of Parametric Fluorescence

Michael Vasilyev, M. Marable, Sang-Kyong Choi +2 more

Photon distributions for parametric fluorescence are measured using a novel self-homodyning technique. They exhibit thermal-like character as predicted by the theory. Self-homodyning automatically matches the signal mode with the local oscillator mode. Experimental realization of ‘universal homodyne tomography’ with a single local oscillator

Paul L. Voss, Tae-Gon Noh, Sarah Dugan +3 more

We report preliminary experimental measurement of the twin-beam quantum state via optical homodyne tomography using a single local oscillator. The experiment is a realization of the recently reported ‘universal homodyne tomography’ technique. The results agree well with theoretical predictions and reveal the non-classical photon-number correlation between the signal and idler photons of the twin-beam state.
