Non-adiabatic quantum wavepacket dynamics simulation based on electronic structure calculations using the variational quantum eigensolver

Hirotoshi Hirai, Sho Koh

A non-adiabatic nuclear wavepacket dynamics simulation of the H2O+ de-excitation process is performed based on electronic structure calculations using the variational quantum eigensolver. The adiabatic potential energy surfaces and non-adiabatic coupling vectors are computed with algorithms for noisy intermediate-scale quantum devices, and time propagation is simulated with conventional methods for classical computers. The results of non-adiabatic transition dynamics from the D2 state to the D1 state reproduce the trend reported in previous studies, which suggests that this quantum–classical hybrid scheme may be a useful application for noisy intermediate-scale quantum devices.

Ground-State Emission and Z5 Scaling in Coulomb Atom

T. F. Kamalov

Quantum mechanics is commonly formulated through a set of postulates inferred from experimental observations. In the present work we investigate whether parts of this axiomatic structure can arise from classical dynamics in a stochastic non-inertial background. We show that two key elements of the conventional formulation—the existence of a fundamental action scale and the Schr¨odinger dynamics—can emerge from a stability condition applied to classical motion in the presence of non-inertial fluctuations. The stability condition implies a balance between the work of non-inertial forces and the emission of electromagnetic energy in the ground state. Within this framework stochastic non-inertial fluctuations generate an effective statistical description that reproduces the structure of quantum mechanics while reducing the number of fundamental assumptions. The theory predicts a previously unexplored Z5 scaling of non-inertial corrections to bound-state energies in hydrogen-like atoms.

Single Cooper-pair tunnelling induced by non-classical microwaves

A. A. Odintsov, Apostol Vourdas

A mesoscopic Josephson junction interacting with a mode of non-classical microwaves with frequency ω is considered. Squeezing of the electromagnetic field drastically affects the dynamics of Cooper tunnelling. In particular, Bloch steps can be observed even when the microwaves are in the squeezed vacuum state with zero average amplitude of the field ⟨ E ( t )⟩ = 0. The interval between these steps is double in size in comparison to the conventional Bloch steps.
