One-way steering of the optical fields with respect to the low- Q cavity via the thermal noise

Abstract

Abstract We show that thermal noise could play a positive role in generating one-way Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen (EPR) steering of two cavity fields dispersively interacting with a single four-level atom, each of which is independently coupled to a thermal reservoir. In the low- Q and weak Raman transition regimes, two output fields exhibit asymmetric EPR steering and the steering direction could be easily controlled by adjusting the mean photon numbers of the thermal reservoirs and the decay rates of cavities. Striking features are present in our scheme. First, one-way EPR steering is achieved by using the couplings of the cavities with the heat baths, which sheds light on the quantum state manipulation in the presence of decoherence. Second, the obtainable EPR steering occurs between the cavity fields in the low- Q regime, which relaxes the constraints on the use of good cavities and so makes our scheme more practical. Third, the correlation properties of the output modes are considered, which can be measured more conveniently and will be more applicable to implement a range of quantum information processing.

One-way Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen steering with the aid of the thermal noise in a correlated emission laser

Wenxue Zhong, Guangling Cheng, Xiangming Hu

Abstract We present to use the thermal noise as an effective way to manipulate the direction of Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen (EPR) steering. In particular, a system of three-level cascade laser is under our consideration, in which the atoms are prepared in an initial superposition of the upper excited level and ground level and the cavity modes are damped by the thermal bath. It is found that the thermal noise plays a constructive role in realizing the one-way EPR steering and expanding the parameter region of the steady-state asymmetric steering. In the absence of the thermal noise, two-way steering mainly occurs due to the injected atomic coherence that is quite helpful for entanglement enhancement. Surprisingly, when the thermal noise is involved, the one-way steering substitutes for two-way steering and it can be obtainable in most parameter region. Actually, the thermal noise significantly increases the mean number of the emitted photon pairs and enlarges the intensity difference between two cavity modes, which leads to the striking asymmetry in the mean photon numbers and then induces the unidirectional steerability from the mode generated by the upper transition to the mode in the low transition. The present scheme may provide a resource in a long-distance quantum network for quantum secret sharing protocol.

Manipulation and enhancement of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering between two mechanical modes generated by two Bogoliubov dissipation pathways

Qi Guo, Mei‐Rong Wei, Cheng‐Hua Bai +3 more

We consider a three-mode optomechanical system in which two mechanical oscillators are independently coupled to a cavity mode driven by two controllable lasers. By controlling the two-tone driving, one can prepare the entanglement and Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) steering of two mechanical modes, in which the cavity mode acts as a single reservoir to cool two Bogoliubov modes. We find that the direction of EPR steering can be manipulated effectively by adjusting the damping rates and the thermal noises of two mechanical modes. In addition, we show that the entanglement and EPR steering between two mechanical modes can be enhanced by adding a parametric amplifier (PA) into the cavity. The effects of the strength and phase of the PA on the mechanical entanglement and EPR steering are analyzed and discussed in detail. Meanwhile, the additional PA can also expand the region of the one-way steering and strengthen the robustness of the entanglement and EPR steering against the thermal noise. The present scheme may provide effective resources for quantum information processing.

One-way Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering via atomic coherence

Wenxue Zhong, Guangling Cheng, Xiangming Hu

We explore the asymmetric Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) steering of field modes via atomic coherent effects. A resonant four-level system in double-cascade configuration is under our consideration, where the atoms are excited by the applied fields from one cascade channel and two cavity modes are generated from the other cascade transition. The results show two cavity modes are suitable for achieving the steady-state one-way EPR steering. We analyze the physics in terms of the dressed-atom Bogoliubov-field-mode approach. It is found that one of two Bogoliubov modes is mediated by the resonant coupling of the dressed atoms and the other is decoupled from them. This leads to the so-called one-channel dissipation, by which the dressed atoms absorb the average excitations from one transformed mode and then two original modes are pulled into the asymmetric correlation. Remarkably, the present scheme is focused on the full-resonant interaction not only between the classical fields, the cavity modes and the bare atoms, but also between the Bogoliubov modes and dressed atoms, which will induce the one-way steering simply via adjusting the intensity of an external field. Furthermore, the EPR steering could occur between the field modes with the large frequency difference, such as optical and microwave fields, which is more useful for the practical quantum communication. Based on the one-channel dissipation, the obtainable one-way EPR steering is rather against the dynamic fluctuations and is regardless of the initial state.

Manipulation of the asymmetric Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen steering via coherent population transfer

Jingyan Li, Quan Chen

Abstract We investigate the Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen (EPR) steering of two cavity modes generated via four-wave mixing processes. For a three-level V-type configuration, a strong coherent field as a dressing field couples the atoms, and a weak coherent field as a control filed resonantly couples one dressed state to the auxiliary state. By using the approach of dressed states and Bogoliubov modes, we find that only one Bogoliubov mode is mediated into the interaction with the dressed atoms, and the other one is decoupled. Due to the presence of the coherent control filed, the channel for dressed state population transfer is established, which plays a key role in the generation of the asymmetric EPR steering of two cavity fields. It is shown that the one-way EPR steering can be manipulated by the Rabi frequencies of the control field and the cooperativity parameters.

One-way steering of optical fields via dissipation of an atomic reservoir

Shi Rao, Xiangming Hu, Lingchao Li +1 more

Abstract Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen (EPR) steering as a form of quantum correlation lies between entanglement and Bell nonlocality and exhibits an inherent asymmetry between two observers. We study EPR steering of two fields, which are generated via four-wave mixing processes and are entangled with each other due to the dissipation of the atomic reservoir. It is shown that the one-way steering happens from one mode to the other for different cavity decay rates and not too small cooperation parameters. Depending on the adiabatic and nonadiabatic conditions, the one-way steering occurs in a different detuning region when the cooperation parameters are relatively small. An increase in the cooperation parameters leads to an increase both in the parameter region and in the degree for the one-way steering. Finally we generalize the present scheme to the cases of the bright and/or collective fields.
