Abstract

In this article, we experimentally investigate the nonreciprocal bistability (NB) of two six-wave mixing (SWM) processes inside of a ring cavity with a five-level rubidium atomic cell. The degree of NB can be analyzed by the nonreciprocal area (or non-overlapping area) including the frequency offset (in the x-direction) and the intensity difference (in the y-direction) between output states. The frequency offset between the two states of signals is resulting from the Kerr nonlinearity, while the cavity feedback dressing effect determines the intensity difference. Besides, the signals are amplified by the SWM polariton and vacuum induced enhancement. Based on the effect of NB, we study the realization of an all-optical wavelength division multiplexing amplifier (WDMA). The optical contrast and channel equalization radio of this WMDA is contributed from the degree of nonreciprocal area of output states of signals. Such results may have potential applications in all-optical devices and optical communication.

We report experimental observation of the enhancement and suppression of four-wave mixing and six-wave mixing (SWM) inside a ring cavity containing a rubidium atomic cell. greatly amplifies the SWM enhancement peak and suppression dip, and the vacuum induced Kerr nonlinear phase shift results in the asymmetric phenomenon of the SWM dressing effect. Additionally, we study the power switch and the destructive interference between multi-photon processes. Such investigation results can find applications in all-optical switches and optical communications.

Optical bistablility in six-wave mixing parametrical amplification

Kangkang Li, Renan Bu, Dan Zhang +4 more

We investigate the nonreciprocity "∞"-shape optical bistability (OB) induced by the feedback dressing effect of six-wave mixing parametrically amplified process in a four-level atomic system. Compared to the traditional OB by scanning power, the "∞"-shape OB is scanning probe frequency and demonstrated by "∞"-shape non-overlapping region. More, this non-overlapping region in the x direction (frequency difference) and in the y direction (intensity difference) could demonstrate the degree of this OB phenomenon of dressed probe and conjugate signals, which can be changed by the intensity of feedback dressing. Further, we find the feedback intensity can be controlled by experimental parameters include powers of external-dressing, frequency detuning, incident phase and the nonlinear phase shift of internal-dressing beam. As a result, the nonreciprocity "∞"-shape OB is more sensitive and multiple than traditional OB. These outcomes have potential applications in logic-gate devices and quantum information processing.

Flip-flop Converter of Dual-bistability Using Cavity and Parametric Amplified Four-Wave Mixing

Kangkang Li, Renan Bu, Xiuxiu Wang +4 more

We study the realization of dual-bistability flip-flop converter in cavity and parametrically amplified four-wave mixing (FWM) process at a four-level cavity atomic system. Using the effect of nonreciprocity optical dual-bistability, we can obtain different output multi-mode states of probe transmission signal and FWM signal. We find the channel equalization ratio and optical contrast between multi-mode states is related to the degree of dual-bistability. Besides, the degree of dual-bistability can be controlled by the input parameters (frequency detuning and powers of the dressing beams). More, using electro-optical modulator and acoustic optical modulator to modulate the powers and frequency detuning, respectively, we can realize the fast conversion between different output states. And the switch speed of this flip-flop converter is about 16 ns. These outcomes may provide foundation for the development of all-optical devices and quantum information processing.

Parametrically Amplified Bright-state Polariton of Four- and Six-wave Mixing in an Optical Ring Cavity

Haixia Chen, Yiqi Zhang, Xin Yao +4 more

We report experimental studies of bright-state polaritons of four-wave mixing (FWM) and six-wave mixing (SWM) signals through cascade nonlinear optical parametric amplification processes in an atom-cavity composite system for the first time. Also, the coexisting cavity transmission modes of parametrically amplified FWM and SWM signals are observed. Finally, electromagnetically induced absorption by the FWM cavity modes in the probe beam is investigated. The investigations can find potential applications in multi-channel narrow-band long-distance quantum communication.

Vacuum induced Aulter–Townes splitting of four- and six-wave mixings in a ring cavity

Zhenkun Wu, Xin Yao, Haixia Chen +4 more

Abstract We demonstrate experimental observation of vacuum Rabi splitting (VRS) of four-wave mixing and six-wave mixing in a collective five-level atomic-cavity coupling system. We study the control of VRS via changing the dressing effect of the vacuum cavity mode; i.e., the cavity mode dressing effect can selectively split the right or left peak when cavity-atom detuning and atom number N are changed. We further report that the cavity window and two electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) windows induced by the dressing field interfere with each other because of different two-photon conditions they satisfy. Additionally, we investigate the self-dressing field effect on VRS of six-wave mixing (SWM) inside the cavity. Such investigation results can find application in all-optical switches and optical communications.

Modulated vortex six-wave mixing

Dan Zhang, Xing Liu, Lingmeng Yang +3 more

We have experimentally generated a vortex six-wave mixing (SWM) signal via a photonic band gap structure in a hot atomic ensemble. The output SWM carrying orbital angular momentum, transferred from a probe beam, has the interaction with the nonlinear effect in the multilevel atomic system. Our results show that a spatial SWM image can be modulated by the detunings and intensities of the related generating fields. Also, the nonreciprocal feature of the SWM signal is demonstrated. Such characteristics can potentially be used in information processing.
