Peculiarity of the Entanglement for $Lif_4^{(2)}\times {S}^1\times S^5$ Spacetime with String Excitations

Abstract

The (F1,D2,D8) brane configuration with $Lif_4^{(2)}\times {S}^1\times S^5$ geometry is a known Lifshitz vacua supported by massive $B_{\mu\nu}$ field in type IIA theory. This system allows exact IR excitations which couple to massless modes of the fundamental string. Due to these massless modes the solutions have a flow to a dilatonic $Lif_4^{(3)}\times S^1\times S^5$ vacua in IR. We study the entanglement entropy on the boundary of this spacetime for the strip and the disc subsystems. To our surprise net entropy density of the excitations at first order is found to be independent of the typical size of subsystems. We interpret our results in the light of first law of entanglement thermodynamics.

Entanglement entropy at higher orders for the states of a = 3 θ = 1 Lifshitz theory

Rohit Mishra, Harvendra Singh

We evaluate the entanglement entropy of strips for boosted D3-black-branes compactified along the lightcone coordinate. The bulk theory describes 3-dimensional a=3 θ=1 Lifshitz theory on the boundary. The area of small strips is evaluated perturbatively up to second order, where the leading term has a logarithmic dependence on strip width l, whereas entropy of the excitations is found to be proportional to l4. The entanglement temperature falls off as 1/l3 on expected lines. The size of the subsystem has to be bigger than typical ‘Lifshitz scale’ in the theory. At second order, the redefinition of temperature (or strip width) is required so as to meaningfully describe the entropy corrections in the form of a first law of entanglement thermodynamics.

Entanglement thermodynamics for nonconformal D-branes

Da-Wei Pang

We study thermodynamics of entanglement entropy for weakly excited states in certain nonconformal field theories, whose gravity duals are given by nonconformal Dp-branes. We observe that the entanglement entropy of a sufficiently small system in nonconformal backgrounds still obeys a first-law-like relation, just as the anti--de Sitter counterparts investigated in [J. Bhattacharya, M. Nozaki, T. Takayanagi, and T. Ugajin, Phys. Rev. Lett. 110, 091602 (2013)]. The effective temperature is proportional to the inverse of the size of the subsystem. The proportionality is a dimensionless constant which is only determined by the shape of the entangling region and independent of any coupling. This universality is confirmed by working with the 10-dimensional string frame metric as well as the lower-dimensional effective metric. When the entangling region is a strip and translational invariance is broken by metric fluctuations, we derive a first-law-like relation where additional components of the stress energy tensor are involved.

Lifshitz entanglement entropy from holographic cMERA

Simon A. Gentle, Stefan Vandoren

Abstract We study entanglement entropy in free Lifshitz scalar field theories holographically by employing the metrics proposed by Nozaki, Ryu and Takayanagi in [1] obtained from a continuous multi-scale entanglement renormalisation ansatz (cMERA). In these geometries we compute the minimal surface areas governing the entanglement entropy as functions of the dynamical exponent z and we exhibit a transition from an area law to a volume law analytically in the limit of large z. We move on to explore the effects of a massive deformation, obtaining results for any z in arbitrary dimension. We then trigger a renormalisation group flow between a Lifshitz theory and a conformal theory and observe a monotonic decrease in entanglement entropy along this flow. We focus on strip regions but also consider a disc in the undeformed theory.

Lightlike limit of entanglement entropy

Krishnan Narayan

We study certain classes of ${g}_{++}$ deformations of theories arising in gauge/string realizations of nonrelativistic holography, some of which pertain to $z=2$ Lifshitz theories while others (pertaining to hyperscaling violation) comprise certain classes of excited states. Building on previous work, we consider holographic entanglement entropy for spacelike strip subsystems in a highly boosted (lightlike) limit, where the strip is stretched along the null ${x}^{+}$ plane. The leading divergence in entanglement in this null limit for these excited states is milder than the usual area law for spacelike subsystems in ground states. For ground states, the entanglement vanishes, perhaps consistent with ultralocality. We discuss this briefly from a field theory perspective. We also present some simple free lightfront field theory examples in excited states where correlators are nonvanishing.

Holographic entanglement entropy of nonlocal field theories

Da-Wei Pang

We study the holographic entanglement entropy of nonlocal field theories at both extremality and finite temperature. The gravity duals, constructed by Nozaki et al. [J. High Energy Phys. 10 (2012) 193], are characterized by a parameter $w$. Both the zero-temperature backgrounds and the finite-temperature counterparts are exact solutions of Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory. For the extremal case we consider the examples where the entangling regions are a strip and a sphere. We find that the leading-order behavior of the entanglement entropy always exhibits a volume law when the size of the entangling region is sufficiently small. We also clarify the condition under which the next-to-leading-order result is universal. For the finite-temperature case we obtain analytic expressions in both the high-temperature and low-temperature limits. In the former case the leading-order result approaches the thermal entropy, while the finite contribution to the entanglement entropy at extremality can be extracted by taking the zero-temperature limit in the latter case. Moreover, we observe some peculiar properties of the holographic entanglement entropy when $w=1$.

Entanglement Entropy from String Field Theory (and a Higher-Spin Example)

Dimitri Polyakov

We study the new class of solutions in linearized open string field theory (OSFT) involving higher-spin modes. Unlike the elementary OSFT solutions (on-shell vertex operators) that, acting on a vacuum, define wavefunctions of pure states (e.g. a tachyon), the solutions that we describe correspond to the reduced density matrices which eigenvalues describe the entanglement between higher-spin modes with different spin values. We compute the entanglement entropy on these OSFT solutions, and the answer is expressed in terms of converging series in inverse weighted partition numbers. In the case of $D$-dimensional bosonic string theory, the entanglement entropy of spin $1$ subsystem and the system of all the spin values is given by $D{\log{λ_0}}+{D\over{λ_0}}\sum_{N=3}^\infty{{|β(N)|}\over{λ(N)}} {\log{({{λ(N)}\over{|β(N)|}})}}$, where $λ(N)$ is the weighted number of partitions of $N$, $β(N)={{(N-1)ζ(3)-ζ(2)}\over{(N-1)^4}}$ and $λ_0=\sum_{N=1}^{\infty}{{β(N)}\over{λ(N)}}$ ($ζ$ is Riemann's zeta-function). The first term, $D{\log{λ_0}}$, represents the entanglement swapping between string vacuum and string excitations. We generalize this result to obtain the entanglement for a subsystem of a given spin $s$ in a given space-time dimension. We also discuss how open string field theory may be used to study the entanglement of systems other than higher spin excitations in string theory.
