Physical layer security for multiuser multi‐eavesdropper multi‐input multi‐output (MIMO) system in the presence of imperfect feedback

Rajiv Kumar, Sudakar Singh Chauhan

Summary In this work, we analyze the physical layer security (PLS) for a multiuser (MUS) multi‐input multi‐output multi‐eavesdropper (MIMOME) wireless network using selection transmission (ST) at the base station (BS) with maximum ratio combining (MRC) at both of the receivers, receivers of legitimate users (LUs) as well as the receivers of illegitimate users over an uncorrelated Rayleigh fading channel. In this scenario, multiple users communicate to a BS at the same time multiple eavesdropper user may intercept the transmission. Next, we drive exact closed‐form expression for probability of nonzero secrecy capacity (PNZSC) and secrecy outage probability (SOP) in the presence of imperfect channel state information (ICSI). At last, we present the simulation results to authenticate the analytical results and analyze the impact of ICSI on PLS of MUS‐MIMOME system.

Effect of Imperfect Artificial Noise on the Performance of Physical Layer Security for MU-Massive MIMO System

Yazeed Abdulaziz Al-Haqbani

Physical Layer Security (PLS) in Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems is crucial to achieving reliable communication. Artificial Noise (AN) is a commonly employed technique to provide PLS-based secure communication. This requires perfect knowledge of the channel between transmitter (Alice) and legitimate user (Bob). However, this channel information may be imperfect due to estimation errors. Thus, the claimed performance of AN-based PLS is questionable and requires thorough investigation. In this work, the effect of imperfect channel estimation on the performance of PLS for multiuser Massive (MU-Massive) MIMO system is investigated. The channel estimation error is modeled as a complex Gaussian variable. The performance measure in terms of Bit-error-rate (BER) is evaluated for different levels of channel estimation error. This investigation provides a good illustration of how the performance of AN-based PLS is affected by the channel estimation error in the MU-Massive MIMO system. This work shows the trend in BER increase with the increase in AN mismatch.

Performance Analysis of Secure Communication in Massive MIMO with Imperfect Channel State Information

Tinghan Yang, Rongqing Zhang, Xiang Cheng +1 more

In recent years, physical layer security has been regarded as a promising concept to provide secure communications in next generation mobile systems, where theoretically massive MIMO can significantly enhance the system secrecy performance due to its advantage in shaping the transmitted signals to null the interference or leakage. However, in practical systems, the channel state information is often imperfect due to the outdated channel effect and the channel estimation error. In this paper, we investigate the physical layer security problem in a multi-user massive MIMO system under imperfect CSI. We first derive a tight asymptotic lower bound of the ergodic system secrecy capacity under imperfect CSI, and then analyze how imperfect CSI affects the system secrecy performance. Simulation results reveal the negative impact of the imperfect CSI on the secrecy performance of massive MIMO systems and the accuracy of our theoretical derivations and analysis.
