Qubit dynamics in an external laser field

Abstract

In this paper, dynamics of a qubit in an external laser field is investigated for the non-Markov environment described by an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. A non-linear non-Markovian stochastic Schrödinger equation is derived for the quantum system. The stochastic equation is preserved for a positive semi-definite of the density matrix and its trace. By the numerical solution of the equation, the probability of finding the system in the excited state and the influence of non-Markov noise parameters on this probability are studie.

Stochastic Non-Markovian Schroedinger equation for a three-level quantum system

Vitalii Semin, Andrei Pavelev

Non-Markovian dynamics of a three-level system is studied with the help of stochastic Schrodinger equation (SSE). We derive a new form of SSE for a three-level system driven by four independent Ornstein-Uhlenbeck stochastic noises. The main advantage of the suggested SSE is the ensuring of the complete positivity of the reduced density operator. We demonstrate significant influence of the non-Markovian noises on the dynamics of the three-level quantum system.

Investigation of non-markovian dynamics of two dipole-dipole interacting Qubits based on numerical solution of the non-linear stochastic schrödinger equation

Andrei Pavelev, Vitalii Semin

In this paper, we investigate non-markovian dynamics of a system of two interacting qubits. With the help of stochastic calculus we derive the non-Markovian non-linear stochastic Schrödinger equation. This equation is solved by the direct computer simulation. The simulation is used to obtain some dynamic properties of the system.

Stochastic Schrödinger Equations for Markovian and non-Markovian Cases

I. Semina, Vitalii Semin, Francesco Petruccione +1 more

Firstly, the Markovian stochastic Schrödinger equations are presented, together with their connections with the theory of measurements in continuous time. Moreover, the stochastic evolution equations are translated into a simulation algorithm, which is illustrated by two concrete examples — the damped harmonic oscillator and a two-level atom with homodyne photodetection. We then consider how to introduce memory effects in the stochastic Schrödinger equation via coloured noise. Specifically, the approach by using the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process is illustrated and a simulation for the non-Markovian process proposed. Finally, an analytical approximation technique is tested with the help of the stochastic simulation in a model of a dissipative qubit.

Non-Markovian generalization of a stochastic Schrödinger equation for two interacting qubits

Vitalii Semin

The non-Markovian generalization of a stochastic Schrödinger equation of diffusion type is considered. Generalization is performed by adding to the system Hamiltonian new stochastic terms some of which are correlated with the environment. The advantage of such an approach is ensuring the complete positivity of the density operator at any time. We illustrate the approach by the example of two interacting qubits in noisy laser fields.

DECOHERENCE, NON-MARKOVIANITY AND QUANTUM ESTIMATION IN QUBIT SYSTEMS SUBJECT TO CLASSICAL NOISE

Claudia Benedetti

The unavoidable interaction of a quantum system with its environment usually degrades its coherence and quantumness. The environment and the decoherence process may be described as the interaction with a classical or quantized bath. As a matter of fact, the classical description becomes progressively more reliable as far as the environment has many degrees of freedom, i.e. it becomes complex, or when the interaction between a quantum system and a classical fluctuating field is taken into account. In this thesis, I consider a qubit system coupled to a stochastic classical field and addressthe decoherence and non-Markovianity induced by the external noise as well as the spectral characterization of the classical field by quantum-limited measurement on the qubit. I thus analyze the dynamics of quantum correlations between two non-interacting, initially entangled qubits subject to a classical noise generated by a stochastic process. Two relevant classes of noise are taken into account: Gaussian noise, such as the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, and non-Gaussian noise, such as the random telgraph noise and the colored noise with 1/f spectrum. I also discuss the evaluation of non-Markovianity of the induced dynamical map and link the presence of revivals of quantum correlations with the information backflow to the system. The precise characterization of the stochastic process generating the classical noise, possibly using minimal resources, is a crucial ingredient for the design of high-precision measurements and reliable communication protocols. To this purpose, I also address the characterization of the spectral parameters of classical noise by quantum probes, e.g. a qubit coupled to the stochastic process generating the noise. By using the tools of quantum estimation theory, I explore the performances of quantum measurements on the qubit and show that it is possible to effectively extract information about the noise.

Non-markovian relaxation of a three-level atom in two laser fields with noise

Vitalii Semin

Abstract Non-markovian relaxation of a three-level system is considered with the help of the generalized stochastic Schrödinger equation. The main advantage of the approach is ensuring of complete positivity of the density operator of a system that is quite difficult to achieve by other approaches. The direct computer simulation of the dynamics of a three-level system shows a noticeable effect of non-markovianity on the dynamical parameters.
