Abstract

We investigate the properties of entanglement and excited-state quantum phase transition (ESQPT) in a hybrid atom-optomechanical system in which an optomechanical quadratic interaction is introduced into a normal Dicke model. Interestingly, by preparing the ancillary mode in a coherent state, both the quantum entanglement and ESQPT can be realized in a relative weak-coupling condition. Moreover, the entanglement is immune to the A 2 term, and a reversed trend of the entropy is obtained when the A 2 term is included. Density of states (DoS) and Peres lattice are used to investigate ESQPTs. Compared to a normal Dicke model, the DoS enlarges exp(2 r α ) times if the ancillary mode is prepared in a coherent state. This work is an extension of the ground-state quantum phase transition, which may inspire further exploration of the quantum criticality in many-body systems.

Phase transitions of the anisotropic Dicke model

Pragna Das, Devendra Singh Bhakuni, Auditya Sharma

We systematically analyze the various phase transitions of the anisotropic Dicke model that is endowed with both rotating and counterrotating light-matter couplings. In addition to the ground-state quantum phase transition (QPT) from the normal to the superradiant phase, the anisotropic Dicke model also exhibits other transitions, namely, the excited state quantum phase transition (ESQPT), ergodic to nonergodic transition (ENET), and the temperature-dependent phase transition. We show that these phase transitions are profitably studied not only with the standard consecutive level spacing ratio, but also with the aid of various eigenvector quantities such as von Neumann entanglement entropy, the participation ratio, multifractal dimension, and mutual information. For ENET, both the statics and dynamics of the participation ratio offer a consistent and useful picture. An exciting finding from our work is that the ESQPT and the ENET are closely related to each other. We show this with the aid of two characteristic energies in the spectrum corresponding to jumps in von Neumann entropy.

Quantum phase transitions in systems with a finite number of degrees of freedom

Michal Kloc

In the thesis we investigate and classify critical phenomena in the extended Dicke model (EDM) which describes the interaction between two-level atoms and a single-mode bosonic field (schematic model for cavity quantum electrodynamics). The model belongs to the class of so-called finite models, which keep the number of degrees of freedom f constant independently on the size of the system N . The important property of these systems is that the thermodynamic limit N → ∞ coincides with the classical limit ħ → 0. This allows us to study various quantum critical phenomena, in particular the ground-state quantum phase transitions (QPTs) and the excited-state quantum phase transitions (ESQPTs), by means of semiclassical methods. Using the semiclassical approach we identify and classify the QPTs and ESQPTs in various settings of the EDM and make a link to thermal phase transitions. We study the entanglement properties of both the ground state and the excited states as a function of the atom-field interaction strength. In the integrable version of the EDM we make a link between the ESQPT and monodromy, and discuss its effect on classical dynamics. The fate of monodromy under a non-integrable perturbation is observed. The dynamical consequences of the ESQPTs are examined using quantum quenches. The influence of the...

Excited-state quantum phase transitions and their manifestations in an extended Dicke model

Pavel Stránský, Michal Kloc, Pavel Cejnar

An Excited-State Quantum Phase Transition (esqpt) is a singularity observed in quantum energy spectra in the infinite-size limit of the system. It originates in the existence of stationary points in the semiclassical Hamiltonian function. We review the classification of esqpts and present a case study in an extended Dicke model. Finally, we show some preliminary results on the dynamical effect induced by esqpts.

The Critical Point Entanglement and Chaos in the Dicke Model

Lina Bao, Feng Pan, Jing Lu +1 more

Ground state properties and level statistics of the Dicke model for a finite number of atoms are investigated based on a progressive diagonalization scheme (PDS). Particle number statistics, the entanglement measure and the Shannon information entropy at the resonance point in cases with a finite number of atoms as functions of the coupling parameter are calculated. It is shown that the entanglement measure defined in terms of the normalized von Neumann entropy of the reduced density matrix of the atoms reaches its maximum value at the critical point of the quantum phase transition where the system is most chaotic. Noticeable change in the Shannon information entropy near or at the critical point of the quantum phase transition is also observed. In addition, the quantum phase transition may be observed not only in the ground state mean photon number and the ground state atomic inversion as shown previously, but also in fluctuations of these two quantities in the ground state, especially in the atomic inversion fluctuation.

Comparative quantum and semiclassical analysis of atom-field systems. I. Density of states and excited-state quantum phase transitions

M. A. Bastarrachea-Magnani, Sergio Lerma-Hernández, Jorge G. Hirsch

We study the nonintegrable Dicke model and its integrable approximation, the Tavis-Cummings model, as functions of both the coupling constant and the excitation energy. Excited-state quantum phase transitions (ESQPT) are found analyzing the density of states in the semiclassical limit and comparing it with numerical results for the quantum case in large Hilbert spaces, taking advantage of efficient methods recently developed. Two different ESQPTs are identified in both models, which are signaled as singularities in the semiclassical density of states; one static ESQPT occurs for any coupling, whereas a dynamic ESQPT is observed only in the superradiant phase. The role of the unstable fixed points of the Hamiltonian semiclassical flux in the occurrence of the ESQPTs is discussed and determined. Numerical evidence is provided that shows that the semiclassical results describe very well the tendency of the quantum energy spectrum for any coupling in both models. Therefore, the semiclassical density of states can be used to study the statistical properties of the fluctuation in the spectra, a study that is presented in a companion paper.

Excited state quantum phase transition in a driven dicke model

Álvaro José González Grajales

Recent successfull experimental realization of the Dicke Model with a time rependent coupling parameter, have draw the attention in the study of dynamical properties present in the Light-matter interaction model. Althoug some research on the non-equilibrium model has been presented, a rather knew QPT known as Excited Stated Quantum Phase Trasnition had not been studied previously. Here we present the dynamical study of the DM where the coupling parameter follows a triangular dependance with time. We show that the change in estatistic of the ground state fidelity and the appearance of finite occupation for cases values of the coupling parameter implies the apperance of the ESQPT in the dynamic model
