Abstract

Abstract With a wide range of potential applications, the generation of nonclassical multiphoton and number states has attracted renewed interest recently. Here, a correlated quadphoton with seventh‐order nonlinear susceptibility is reported in which all four photons are simultaneously created via an eight‐wave mixing (EWM) process in an atomic medium. The efficiency of the pure EWM process is low, which results from the small order of magnitude of the seventh‐order nonlinear susceptibility (the quadphoton correlation with four periods corresponding to 8 channels and 12 resonance positions). But the EWM process has a strong dressing effect. It not only increases the nonlinear susceptibility, but also produces 15 or 16 resonance positions in the dressing state picture. In addition, with the energy conservation of these positions, 12 coherent channels can be generated in this system. According to the interference between multichannels of the quadphoton, the quadphoton coincidence count appears as a damped Rabi oscillation, which has eight or ten oscillation periods. If only the nonlinear optical response is considered, the coincidence counts of the quadphoton behave as a damped Rabi oscillation with periods that can be controlled by the dressing field. These outcomes may contribute to a new promising method for quantum communication.

Double-dressing tri and quad-photon correlations in spontaneous six and eight-wave mixing

Yameng Li, Yuan Feng, Wei Li +4 more

Abstract The generation of a nonclassical multi-photon has aroused renewed interest in recent years. Here, we propose a new method to generate tri-photon and quad-photon correlations in time via a double-dressing spontaneous six-wave mixing and eight-wave mixing process in an atomic ensemble, respectively. When we only consider the nonlinear optical response, the coincidence counts of tri and quad photon serves as damped coherent Rabi oscillation. The coincident count of tri (quad) photon contains three (four) conditional two-photon correlation with 10 or 30 (26, 28 or 38) periods, corresponding to 11 or 19 (18 or 20) modes. These mode and periods of tri and quad photon result from destructive interference from the possible 4 or 8 six wave and 18 eight wave coherent channels, respectively. In addition, for tri-photon, the greater double-dressing field strength is, the fewer the number of periods are. The coherent times are also controlled by the double-dressing effect. Such results have potential applications in multi-mode quantum communication and quantum network.

Non-Hermitian Control of Tri-Photon and Quad-Photon Using Parallel Multi-Dressing Quantization

Haitian Tang, Rui Zhuang, Jiaxuan Wei +5 more

The fifth-order nonlinear polarizability has been extensively studied in the field of quantum communication due to its ease of manipulation. By adjusting the relative size of the Rabi frequency and dephasing rate of the dressing field, natural non-Hermitian exceptional points can be generated, and further evolution can be achieved by varying the types of dressing fields. However, as the demand for information capacity in quantum communication continues to increase, research on the higher-order seventh-order nonlinear polarizability, based on four-photon states, and the number of coherent channels and resonance positions has gradually come to the forefront. This paper focuses on the simultaneous generation of a seventh-order nonlinear polarizability through a spontaneous eight-wave mixing (SEWM) process in an atomic medium involving four photons. Compared to the fifth-order nonlinear polarizability, the seventh-order polarizability shows an exponential increase in coherent channels and resonance positions due to its strong dressing effect. Additionally, the interaction between the four photons is stronger than that between three photons, making it possible for even the difficult-to-dress eigenvalues to be influenced by the dressing field and dephasing rate, resulting in more complex coherent channels. These are manifested as more complex, damped Rabi oscillations, with periods that can be controlled by the dressing field. These findings may contribute to a promising new method for quantum communication.

Evolution of linear and nonlinear optical responses in single- and double-dressing quadphoton correlations

Yuan Feng, Zhaoyang Zhang, Irfan Ahmed +4 more

Research on entangled multipartite systems with controllable wave functions has attracted significant interest in the field of quantum optics. For quantum communications and quantum information processing, linear and nonlinear optical susceptibilities govern high-order correlations and entangled multiple-photon resources. In single- and double-dressing quadphoton correlations, we have observed the evolution of linear and nonlinear optical responses in the group delay and Rabi oscillation regimes. In the group delay regime, when linear susceptibility is evident, the quadphoton coincidence counting rate exhibits a rectangular profile. In the Rabi oscillation regime, the enhanced nonlinear susceptibility induced by strong laser dressing effects control quadphoton wave packets based on damped Rabi oscillation. Additionally, at different delay times, some photons exist in the group delay regimes, while others exist in the Rabi oscillation regimes, suggesting a coexistence mechanism. Additionally, there is a transition regime in which a portion of the photons are in both the group delay and Rabi oscillation regimes. By varying the power of the dressing field and optical depth, we realized the evolution between these two regimes for entangled quadphotons. Additionally, we demonstrate the shortening of coherence times under double-dressing conditions compared to single-dressing conditions. These results can help improving the length of coherence time and information capacity, which have great significance for the future development of long-distance and long coherent time quantum communication and quantum storage.

Nonclassical light generation via a four-level inverted-Y system

Jianming Wen, Shengwang Du, Yanpeng Zhang +2 more

We have theoretically analyzed nonclassical paired photons generated spontaneously from a four-level inverted-Y atomic system. We discuss the feasibility of biphoton generation due to different pumping arrangements. Two types of correlated photon pair emissions have been carefully examined: dressed cascade and dressed double-$\ensuremath{\Lambda}$ emissions. In the dressed cascade two-photon emission, the coincidence counting rate may exhibit a damped Rabi oscillation, in contrast with a simple exponential decay feature in the literatures. In the dressed double-$\ensuremath{\Lambda}$ configuration, we show that not only is the temporal correlation of entangled Stokes--anti-Stokes photons in agreement with discussions presented by Wen et al. [Phys. Rev. A 76, 013825 (2007)], but also the oscillation period may be manipulated by altering either the control Rabi frequency or the dressing Rabi frequency or both. All the observed damped Rabi oscillations in the two-photon coincidences result from the destructive interference among the possible four-wave mixing processes occurring in the atom-field interaction system. This feature of the two-photon amplitude is governed by the convolution between the phase matching and third-order nonlinear susceptibility. The methodology adopted here can be applied to other atomic-level configurations and provides a useful tool to study the spectroscopy of the system. The generated narrow-band photon pairs may have potential applications in long-distance quantum communication and quantum information processing.

Generation of a tripartite photonic state via a double-Λ configuration in a four-level system

Jie Yang, Xiang Yan

Abstract Triphotons have a more abundant energy structure compared to biphotons. Furthermore, as the number of photons increases, excellent properties such as entangled multi-qubit states, high security, flexibility, and information capacity are observed. This leads to a growing demand for multi-body quantum information processing. Here, a method is proposed to generate a three-photon entangled state using a single six-wave mixing process in an atomic ensemble. The research examines the temporal correlation characteristics of the triphoton produced in photon coincidence counting measurements, with a focus on the linear and nonlinear susceptibilities of the six-wave mixing process. These properties primarily depend on the fifth-order nonlinear coupling coefficients responsible for the damping Rabi oscillations and the group delay determined by the longitudinal detuning function. To enhance the nonlinear interaction between the optical field and the atomic ensemble, placing the atomic ensemble in a high-quality cavity and utilizing laser cooling techniques to eliminate the internal Doppler broadening effect in the atomic gas hold promise.

Three‐Body Topology Entanglement Generation via a Six‐Wave Mixing: Competing and Coexisting of Linear and Nonlinear Optics Responses in Triphoton Temporal Correlation

Kangkang Li, Yin Cai, Ji Wei Wu +4 more

Abstract Compared with biphotons, the three‐body photons have a more plentiful energy construction. Further, excellent properties such as entangled multiqubit states, high security, flexibility, and information capacity are observed as the increased number of photons is manipulated, in turn increasing the need for a multiple‐body quantum information process. Here, a novel method is proposed to generate natural narrowband three‐body photons of W state, entangled in time (or energy) via a single step of six‐wave mixing process (SWMP). Emphasizing on the linear and nonlinear susceptibilities of the SWMP, the properties of temporal correlation of the generated triphoton in the photon coincidence counting measurements are studied. Based on the photon–atom interfaces, these susceptibilities compete or coexist with each other. Meanwhile, in a dressed‐state picture, the nonlinear susceptibility decides the temporal correlation of the triphoton wave packet as damped multiperiodic Rabi oscillation, suggesting the property of the high‐dimensional time−energy entangled triphoton state. Moreover, combining the topology energy level constructions with the optical responses is a significant method for investigating the peculiarity in the temporal correlation of the generated three‐body photons.
