Abstract

In this paper, we generate some new classes of entangled states of a bimodal Bose–Einstein condensate (BEC), a pair of tunnel-coupled BEC, in the presence of two- and three-body elastic as well as mode-exchange collisions. The Hamiltonian of the considered system is very complicated, moreover, it can be fortunately transformed into a simple form using a two-mode displacement operator. After introducing the general form of the time evolved state, various classes of entangled states are generated. Indeed, the influence of different orders of tunneling strengths on the generated entangled states has been studied. Depending on the tunneling strength constants, two-, three- and four-partite entangled states are generated, all of which are superposition states of macroscopic number of BEC atoms. Considering three-particle collision dramatically changes the generated entangled states. Moreover, in particular cases, the resulted states are non-entangled. Also, we show that tunneling and collisional interactions can be manipulated to generate a pair of atomic entangled coherent states (quasi-Bell states). In addition, it is observed that the degree of entanglement for two-partite entangled states can be tuned via the number of BEC atoms, i.e. the corresponding concurrences tend to their maximum value by increasing the atoms in both modes of system.

Entanglement Properties of a Three-Mode Atom-Molecule Bose-Einstein Condensates System Considering the Interactions due to the s-wave Intramodal Elastic Scattering

S. K. Giri

Ultracold atoms in the atomic Bose-Einstein condensate (ABEC) state can form molecular Bose-Einstein condensate (MBEC) through photoassociation. In the atom-molecule Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs), two or more atoms in the ABEC can combine to form a molecule in the MBEC and again a molecule from a MBEC can decompose to atoms in the ABEC.The Bose-stimulated Raman adiabatic passage is an efficient mechanism for conversion of an atomic BEC to a molecular BEC.A three-mode atom-molecule Bose-Einstein condensates system can be prepared through the photoassociative Bose-stimulated Raman adiabatic passage. In our system, three modes are one ABEC, one excited MBEC, and one stable MBEC.The intramodal interactions due to the  (3) nonlinearity is present in all three BEC modes along with ABEC-excited MBEC and excited MBEC-stable MBEC intermodal couplings. The quantum mechanical Hamiltonian of the system is constructed considering all three intraspecies interactions and intermodal couplings among the modes. The Hamiltonian of the system is solved analytically using a special intuitive approach which is more general and gives more accurate result than the well-known short time approximation method. The correctness of the solution is verified through the equal time commutation relation.Staring from a three-mode composite coherent state we compute the time evolution of the field annihilation operators of all three modes in presence of all possible interactions and couplings.Using these solutions, we investigate the quantum entanglement properties of the system for all three two-mode combinations.Entanglement is found for two combinations of modes, where as one combination is always separable. Also, we study the dependence of the entanglement properties of the system with the interaction and coupling constants.

Generation of atom-photon entangled states in atomic Bose-Einstein condensate via electromagnetically induced transparency

Le‐Man Kuang, Lan Zhou

In this paper, we present a method to generate continuous-variable-type entangled states between photons and atoms in atomic Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC). The proposed method involves an atomic BEC with three internal states, a weak quantized probe laser, and a strong classical coupling laser, which form a three-level $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$-shaped BEC system. We consider a situation where the BEC is in electromagnetically induced transparency with the coupling laser being much stronger than the probe laser. In this case, the upper and intermediate levels are unpopulated, so that their adiabatic elimination enables an effective two-mode model involving only the atomic field at the lowest internal level and the quantized probe laser field. Atom-photon quantum entanglement is created through laser-atom and interatomic interactions, and two-photon detuning. We show how to generate atom-photon entangled coherent states and entangled states between photon (atom) coherent states and atom-(photon-) macroscopic quantum superposition (MQS) states, and between photon-MQS and atom-MQS states.

Entanglement of two-mode Bose-Einstein condensates

Andrew P. Hines, Ross H. McKenzie, Gerard J Milburn

We investigate the entanglement characteristics of two general bimodal Bose-Einstein condensates---a pair of tunnel-coupled Bose-Einstein condensates and the atom-molecule Bose-Einstein condensate. We argue that the entanglement is only physically meaningful if the system is viewed as a bipartite system, where the subsystems are the two modes. The indistinguishibility of the particles in the condensate means that the atomic constituents are physically inaccessible and, thus, the degree of entanglement between individual particles, unlike the entanglement between the modes, is not experimentally relevant so long as the particles remain in the condensed state. We calculate the entanglement between the two modes for the exact ground state of the two bimodal condensates and consider the dynamics of the entanglement in the tunnel-coupled case.

Time-evolution of entanglement and Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states in two-mode Bose-Einstein condensates

Wen Yin, J.-Q. Liang, Q.-W. Yan +1 more

In this Brief Report we investigate the time evolution of entanglement in two-mode Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC's) with various parameters of the scattering lengths of interatoms collisions, Josephson coupling strength, and initial states. The degree of entanglement increases by strengthening the tunnel coupling and keeping the balance of the collision interaction. In the latter stage we show that the two-mode BEC's can be used for preparing the Greenberger-Home-Zeilinger state.

Generation of generalized coherent states with two coupled Bose-Einstein condensates

Sanz, L, Moussa, M H Y, Furuya, K

We present a scheme to prepare generalized coherent states in a system with two species of Bose-Einstein condensates. First, within the two-mode approximation, we demonstrate that a Schrodinger cat-like can be dynamically generated and, by controlling the Josephson-like coupling strength, the number of coherent states in the superposition can be varied. Later, we analyze numerically the dynamics of the whole system when interspecies collisions are inhibited. Variables such as fractional population, Mandel parameter and variances of annihilation and number operators are used to show that the evolved state is entangled and exhibits sub-Poisson statistics.

THREE-MODE ENTANGLED STATE OF AN ATOMIC BOSE–EINSTEIN CONDENSATE IN A THREE-WELL POTENTIAL

Jin‐Ming Liu, Yuzhu Wang

In this paper, we present a scheme to generate a three-mode entangled state of an atomic Bose–Einstein condensate in a symmetric three-well potential by using controlled atomic elastic collisions. Then, by means of the method for calculating the formation entanglement of two qubits, we obtain the analytic expressions of the residual entanglement of the three-mode BEC entangled state.
