Superradiant quantum phase transition in a circuit QED system: a revisit from a fully microscopic point of view

Dazhi Xu, Yuan Gao, Chuan Sun

In order to examine whether or not the quantum phase transition of Dicke type exists in realistic systems, we revisit the model setup of the superconducting circuit QED from a microscopic many-body perspective based on the BCS theory with pseudo-spin presentation. By deriving the Dicke model with the correct charging terms from the minimum coupling principle, it is shown that the circuit QED system can exhibit superradiant quantum phase transition in the limit N\rightarrow\infty. The critical point could be reached at easiness by adjusting the extra parameters, the ratio of Josephson capacitance C_{J} to gate capacitance C_{g}, as well as the conventional one, the ratio of Josephson energy E_{J} to charging energy E_{C}.

Local Kondo entanglement and its breakdown in an effective two-impurity Kondo model

Yuxiang Li, Xiao-Yong Feng, Jianhui Dai

Competition between the Kondo effect and Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida interaction in the two-impurity Kondo problem can be phenomenologically described by the Rasul-Schlottmann spin model. We revisit this model from the quantum entanglement perspective by calculating both the inter-impurity entanglement and the local Kondo entanglement, the latter being the entanglement between a local magnetic impurity and its spatially nearby conduction electron. A groundstate phase diagram is derived and a discontinuous breakdown of the local Kondo entanglement is found at the singular point, associated concomitantly with a jump in the inter-impurity entanglement. An entanglement monogamy holds in the whole phase diagram. Our results identify the important role of the frustrated cross-coupling and demonstrate the local characteristic of the quantum phase transition in the two-impurity Kondo problem. The implications of these results for Kondo lattices and quantum information processing are also briefly discussed.

Revisiting the phase transitions of the Dicke model

Pragna Das, Auditya Sharma

The Dicke model exhibits a variety of phase transitions. The quantum phase transition from the normal phase to the super-radiant phase is marked by a dramatic change in the scaling of the participation ratio. We find that the ground state in the super-radiant phase exhibits multifractality manifest in the participation ratio scaling as the square root of the full Hilbert-space dimension. The thermal phase transition temperature, for which an exact analytical expression may be obtained using the partition function, is strikingly captured by the mutual information between two spins. In the excited-state quantum phase transition within the super-radiant phase, there are two cutoff energies; the central energy bands between the lower and upper cutoff energies show distinctly different behaviors. While the level statistics of the central band is Wigner-Dyson, the lower and upper bands show mixed behavior that is closer to Poisson than Wigner-Dyson. This finding is corroborated with the aid of several eigenvector properties: von Neumann entanglement entropy between spins and bosons, the mean photon number, concurrence between two spins, and participation ratio.
