Abstract

We demonstrate how the system of two-level emitters coupled to the same dissipative reservoirs can function as a beam-splitter when operating with single photons. The suggested classical beam-splitting device might be useful for devising controlled single-photon emitting devices.

TWO-PHOTON INTERFERENCE FROM TWO INDEPENDENT SOURCES IN THE SCHEME OF YOUNG’S EXPERIMENT IN THE FRAMEWORK OF MODELING THE COORDINATE WAVE FUNCTION OF THE PHOTON

А.П. ДАВЫДОВ, Tatiana Pavlovna Zlydneva

By modeling the photon wave function in the coordinate representation, the emergence of distinct interference in the probability density of hitting of the two single photons into different points of the second screen in scheme of Young’s experiment is demonstrated, if these photons were simultaneously emitted by independent sources.

Single-photon switches, beam splitters, and circulators based on the photonic Aharonov-Bohm effect

Yu Lu Hu, W. Z. Jia, Cong-Hua Yan

Single-photon devices such as switches, beam splitters, and circulators are fundamental components to construct photonic integrated quantum networks. In this paper, two V-type three-level atoms coupled to a waveguide are proposed to simultaneously realize these functions as a multifunctional and reconfigurable single-photon device. When both the two atoms are driven by the external coherent fields, the difference in the phases of the coherent driving induces the photonic Aharonov-Bohm effect. Based on the photonic Aharonov-Bohm effect and setting the two-atom distance to match the constructive or destructive interference conditions among photons travelling along different paths, a single-photon switch is achieved since the incident single photon can be controlled from complete transmission to complete reflection by adjusting the amplitudes and phases of the driving fields. When properly changing the amplitudes and phases of the driving fields, the incident photons are split equally into multiple components as a beam splitter operated with different frequencies. Meanwhile, the single-photon circulator with reconfigurable circulation directions can also be obtained.

Single photon scattering in a pair of coupled-resonator waveguides coupled to a quantum emitter

Yan‐Yan Song

We theoretically investigate the single photon scattering in a pair of coupled-resonator waveguides coupled to a two-level quantum emitter. It reveals that the incident photon transporting probabilities can be controlled by adjusting the coupling strength between the two-level system and the coupled-resonator waveguide. Two optical nano-devices, quantum optical switch and beam splitter are proposed. In addition, the influence of the dissipation of the two-level system on the photon transporting properties is also analyzed.

Quantum trajectory model for photon detectors and optoelectronic devices

Teppo Häyrynen, Jani Oksanen, Jukka Tulkki

We consider a single-mode optical cavity field with simultaneous dissipative and amplifying couplings to a reservoir via a two-state system. In previous works, the reservoir has either solely absorbed energy (detector setup) or added energy (amplifying setup) to the cavity. In this work, we allow both interactions simultaneously and derive a reduced dynamic model for the optical field. Our model includes four physical parameters: the field-two-state system coupling γ, the excitation and de-excitation couplings of the two-state system to the reservoir λA and λD, respectively, and the mirror losses of the cavity C. We show that, depending on the parameters, our setup can operate as a detector, a light-emitting diode or a laser. We also consider single-photon subtraction and addition schemes based on beam splitters and calculate the output fields and the probabilities of the subtraction and addition events. Furthermore, we discuss which are the parameter regimes in which our model is equivalent to beam splitter-based schemes.
