On binary constructions of quantum codes

Abstract

Recently, Steane (1998) proposed an enlargement of the Calderbank-Shor-Steane construction. Here we further improve on the parameters obtained from his construction, present examples of new codes, and analyze asymptotical non-constructive bounds.

In this paper we present the Hilbert space representation and the decoding of the enlarged Calderbank-Shor-Steane code constructed by Steane. We also give a generalization of the code.

Generalization of Steane's Enlargement Construction of Quantum Codes and Applications

San Ling, Jinquan Luo, Chaoping Xing

We generalize Steane’s enlargement construction of binary quantum codes to q-ary quantum codes. We then apply this result to BCH codes and the study of asymptotic bounds, and obtain improvements to the quantum BCH codes constructed by Aly and Klappenecker and the quantum asymptotic bounds from algebraic geometry codes obtained by Feng, Ling and Xing.

Constructions of new families of nonbinary quantum codes

Giuliano G. La Guardia

Three code constructions generating new families of good nonbinary quantum codes are presented in this paper. The first two ones are derived from Hermitian self-orthogonal non-narrow-sense Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) codes. The third one is derived from $q$-ary ($q\ensuremath{\ne}2$ is a prime power) Steane's enlargement of Calderbank-Shor-Steane codes applied to Euclidean self-orthogonal non-narrow-sense BCH codes. The quantum nonbinary BCH codes presented here have parameters better than the ones available in the literature.

1 On the Construction of Nonbinary Quantum BCH Codes

Giuliano G. La Guardia

Four quantum code constructions generating several new families of good nonbinary quantum nonprimitive nonnarrow-sense, Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem codes, are presented in this paper. The first two are based on Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) construction derived from two nonprimitive Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem codes. The third one is based on Steane's enlargement of nonbinary CSS codes applied to suitable subfamilies of nonprimitive nonnarrow-sense Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem codes. The fourth construction is derived from suitable subfamilies of Hermitian dual-containing nonprimitive nonnarrow-sense Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem codes. These constructions generate new families of quantum codes whose parameters are better than the ones available in the literature.

On binary constructions of quantum codes

Gérard Cohen, S. Encheva, Simon N. Litsyn

We improve estimates on the parameters of quantum codes obtained by Steane's (see ibid., vol.45, no.7, p.2492-5, 1999) construction from binary codes. This yields several new families of quantum codes.
