Abstract

In this paper, we propose a new practical identity-based encryption scheme which is suitable for wireless sensor network (WSN). We call it Receiver-Bounded Online/Offline Identity-based Encryption (RB-OOIBE). It splits the encryption process into two parts – the offline and the online part. In the offline part, all heavy computations are done without the knowledge of the receiver’s identity and the plaintext message. In the online stage, only light computations such as modular operation and symmetric key encryption are required, together with the receiver’s identity and the plaintext message. Moreover, since each offline ciphertext can be re-used for the same receiver, the number of offline ciphertexts the encrypter holds only confines the number of receivers instead of the number of messages to be encrypted. In this way, a sensor node (with limited computation power and limited storage) in WSN can send encrypted data easily: A few offline ciphertexts can be computed in the manufacturing stage while the online part is light enough for the sensor to process. We propose an efficient construction for this new notion. The scheme can be proven selective-ID CCA secure in the standard model. Compared to previous online/offline identity-based encryption schemes, our scheme is exempt from a high storage requirement, which is proportional to the number of messages to be sent. The improvement is very significant if many messages are sent to few receivers. 1.

Identity-Based Online/Offline Encryption Scheme from LWE

Binger Zuo, Jiguo Li, Yichen Zhang +1 more

With quantum computers, the quantum resistance of cryptographic systems has gradually attracted attention. To overcome the shortcoming of existing identity-based encryption (IBE) schemes in resisting quantum attacks, we introduce an IBE scheme based on learning with errors (LWE). In addition, devices with limited computing power are becoming increasingly common in practice, making it increasingly important to improve the efficiency of online computation of encryption algorithms. The classic solution is to directly improve the efficiency of the Gaussian sampling algorithm, thereby increasing the overall efficiency of the scheme. However, our scheme combines the efficient Gaussian sampling algorithm, G-trapdoor, with online/offline method to further improve the online encryption efficiency of the encryption algorithm. Our scheme completes partial computation before knowing the message and receiver’s identity, and once the message and receiver’s identity are obtained, the online part encryption can be efficiently completed. We construct an identity-based online/offline encryption (IBOOE) scheme from LWE with G-trapdoor, improve the efficiency of online encryption while achieving quantum resistant security. We prove the scheme’s security under the standard model for chosen-plaintext attack (CPA). By comparing with relevant schemes in terms of experiments and analysis, our scheme has improved efficiency by 65% to 80% compared to the classical LWE IBE scheme (increasing with LWE security parameters), and by 60% to 70% compared to the recent IBE scheme from LWE. This greatly improves the efficiency of online computing for low-power encryption devices while ensuring security.

Anonymous Multi-Receiver Identity-Based Authenticated Encryption with CCA Security

Chun‐I Fan, Yi‐Fan Tseng

In a multi-receiver encryption system, a sender chooses a set of authorized receivers and sends them a message securely and efficiently, as the message is well encrypted and only one ciphertext corresponding to the message is generated no matter how many receivers the sender has chosen. It can be applied to video conferencing systems, pay-per-view channels, remote education, and so forth. Due to privacy considerations, an authorized receiver may not expect that his identity is revealed. In 2010, anonymous multi-receiver identity-based (ID-based) encryption was first discussed, and furthermore, many works on the topic have been presented so far. Unfortunately, we find that all of those schemes fail to prove the chosen ciphertext attacks (CCA) security in either confidentiality or anonymity. In this manuscript, we propose the first anonymous multi-receiver ID-based authenticated encryption scheme with CCA security in both confidentiality and anonymity. In the proposed scheme, the identity of the sender of a ciphertext can be authenticated by the receivers after a successful decryption. In addition, the proposed scheme also is the first CCA-secure one against insider attacks. Moreover, only one pairing computation is required in decryption.

A Source Hiding Identity-Based Proxy Reencryption Scheme for Wireless Sensor Network

Chunpeng Ge, Jinyue Xia, Aaron Wu +2 more

Wireless sensor network (WSN), which extends the typical Internet environment to Internet of Things, has been deployed in various environments such as safety monitoring, intelligent transportation, and smart home. In a WSN, encryption is typically used to protect data that are stored in wireless devices. However some features like data sharing can be affected if the traditional encryption is used. A secure mechanism should support a gateway of the network to directly convert a user’s encrypted data (encrypted pollution data) to a new user’s encryption without exposing the underlying plaintext data during the whole sharing phase. In this work, a new source hiding identity-based proxy reencryption scheme (SHIB-PRE) is proposed to deal with the issue. The proposed SHIB-PRE scheme supports a proxy (gateway or cloud server) to transform a user’s encrypted date to a new user’s ciphertext as long as the proxy has the proxy reencryption key. In SHIB-PRE, the encrypted pollution data is kept secure from the proxy and the relationship between a source ciphertext and a reencrypted ciphertext is concealed from the outside eavesdropper. In this paper, we give an introduction to the definition of a source hiding identity-based proxy reencryption and its chosen plaintext security model. Further, a concrete construction will be presented and proven chosen plaintext secure under the q-DDHE assumption in the standard model.

Receiver Selective Opening Chosen Ciphertext Secure Identity-Based Encryption

Keisuke Hara, Takahiro Matsuda, Keisuke Tanaka

In the situation where there are one sender and multiple receivers, a receiver selective opening (RSO) attack for an identity-based encryption (IBE) scheme considers adversaries that can corrupt some of the receivers and get their user secret keys and plaintexts. Security against RSO attacks for an IBE scheme ensures confidentiality of ciphertexts of uncorrupted receivers. In this paper, we formalize a definition of RSO security against chosen ciphertext attacks (RSO-CCA security) for IBE and propose the first RSO-CCA secure IBE schemes. More specifically, we construct an RSO-CCA secure IBE scheme based on an IND-ID-CPA secure IBE scheme and a non-interactive zero-knowledge proof system with unbounded simulation soundness and multi-theorem zero-knowledge. Through our generic construction, we obtain the first pairing-based and lattice-based RSO-CCA secure IBE schemes.
