Abstract

This letter investigates the secrecy performance of the classical Wyner's wiretap model, where the main channel and eavesdropper channel experience correlated α-μ fading. Novel and exact expressions for the average secrecy capacity and secrecy outage probability are derived for the considered realistic scenario. The effect of correlation has been studied on the secrecy performance. Useful insights into the system performance are obtained through the asymptotic analysis.

On Physical Layer Security of $\alpha$ -$\eta$ -$\kappa$ -$\mu$ Fading Channels

In this letter, we study the secrecy performance of the classic Wyner's wiretap model, where the main and eavesdropper channels are modeled by a general and versatile α-η-κ-μ fading model. Novel and exact expressions of the average secrecy capacity and secrecy outage probability have been derived. Previous results on physical layer security can be obtained through our newly derived expressions by specializing the model parameters. More importantly, the derived results are also applicable for the secrecy performance analysis of some field measurements (e.g., in millimeter wave communications), which cannot be analyzed by previous results.

Secrecy Performance Analysis of SIMO Systems Over Correlated $\kappa$ –$\mu$ Shadowed Fading Channels

Jiangfeng Sun, Hongxia Bie, Xingwang Li +3 more

In this paper, the secrecy performance of single-input-multiple-output systems over correlated κ-μ shadowed fading channels is investigated. In particular, based on the classic Wyner's wiretap model, we derive analytical expressions for secure outage probability (SOP) and the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) over correlated κ-μ shadowed fading channels. In order to further study the impact of channel parameters on the secrecy performance, novel SOP and the probability of SPSC over independent and identically distributed κ-μ shadowed fading channels are also obtained. In addition, we discuss the asymptotic expressions of the SOP and the SPSC. The match between the analytical results and simulations is excellent for all parameters under considerations. It is interesting to find that the results show that when the signal-to-noise ratio of the main channel is lower than that of the eavesdropping channel, the larger value of correlation coefficient is helpful to improve the secrecy performance and vice versa.

Performance analysis of physical layer security over independent/correlated log-normal fading channels

Xv Zhang, Gaofeng Pan, Chaoqing Tang +2 more

In this paper, we analyze the performance of the physical layer security for the classic Wyner's three-node model (including an eavesdropper) over independent/correlated lognormal fading channels. Considering the cases where the main and eavesdropper channels experience independent/correlated log-normal fading, we study the average secrecy capacity and secrecy outage (including the probability of non-zero secrecy capacity and secure outage probability), respectively. The approximated closed-form expressions for the average secrecy capacity, the probability of non-zero secrecy capacity, and secure outage probability have been derived for independent/correlated lognormal fading channels, respectively. Finally, the accuracy of our performance analysis is verified by simulation results.

On the Secrecy Capacity of Fisher-Snedecor F Fading Channels

Osamah S. Badarneh, Paschalis C. Sofotasios, Sami Muhaidat +3 more

The performance of physical-layer security of the classic Wyner's wiretap model over Fisher-Snedecor F composite fading channels is considered in this work. Specifically, the main channel (i.e., between the source and the legitimate destination) and the eavesdropper's channel (i.e., between the source and the illegitimate destination) are assumed to experience independent quasi-static Fisher-Snedecor F fading conditions, which have been shown to be encountered in realistic wireless transmission scenarios in conventional and emerging communication systems. In this context, exact closed-form expressions for the average secrecy capacity (ASC) and the probability of non-zero secrecy capacity (PNSC) are derived. Additionally, an asymptotic analytical expression for the ASC is presented. The impact of shadowing and multipath fading on the secrecy performance is investigated. Our results show that increasing the fading parameter of the main channel and/or the shadowing parameter of the eavesdropper's channel improves the secrecy performance. The analytical results are compared with Monte-Carlo simulations to validate the analysis.

Secrecy Performance of Multi-Antenna Wiretap Channels With Diversity Combining Over Correlated Rayleigh Fading Channels

Jiangbo Si, Zan Li, Julian Cheng +1 more

This paper presents a detailed secrecy performance analysis of correlated multi-antenna wiretap channels with three popular diversity combining schemes, namely maximal ratio combining, selection combining, and equal gain combining at the legitimate receiver. For single-input multiple-output wiretap channels, both exact and asymptotic expressions are derived for the secrecy outage probability (SOP) of these systems. The findings suggest that, compared with the scenario where all the channels are independent, correlation of the main channels alone increases the SOP by a factor of 1/ det(U), where det(U) is the determinant of correlation matrix U. In contrast, when the average SNR at the legitimate receiver is much larger than that at the eavesdropper, correlation between the main channels and the eavesdropper channels has a positive effect on SOP. Moreover, in the case of multiple-input and multiple-output wiretap channels, two transmit antenna selection schemes with or without the eavesdropper's channel state information are evaluated by the SOP and the average secrecy capacity for the considered correlated channel model, respectively. Finally, numerical simulations are conducted to corroborate the analytical results.

Secrecy outage probability and intercept probability analysis over α-F fading channels

Jelena A. Anastasov, Aleksandra S. Panajotović, Nikola Sekulović +2 more

In this paper, we investigated the secrecy performance of traditional Wyner's wiretap model over α-F fading channels. The expressions for evaluating the secrecy outage probability and the probability of intercept are derived. Due to high generality of assumed fading model which includes other models as special or limiting cases, presented analysis is quite general. Based on obtained analytical results, the impact of fading depth and shadowing severity of main/wiretap channel on the physical layer security metrics is studied. The results showed that secrecy transmission can be enhanced by proper exploiting propagation characteristics of authorized/unauthorized wireless channels.
