Abstract

We consider a pair of coupled spins with Ising interaction in z-direction and study the problem of generating efficiently the triplet Bell state. We initially analyze the transitionless quantum driving shortcut to adiabaticity method and point out its limitations when the available duration approaches zero. In this short time limit we explicitly calculate the fidelity of the method and find it to be much lower than unity, no matter how large the available control fields become. We find that there is a lower bound on the necessary time to complete this transfer, set by the finite value of the interaction between the spins. We then use numerical optimal control to find bang-bang pulse sequences, as well as, smooth controls, which can generate high levels of the target Bell state in the minimum possible time. Finally, we explain how this method can be adapted for the efficient generation of general quantum entanglement in the system. The results of the present work are not restricted only to spin systems, but is expected to find also applications in other physical systems which can be modeled as interacting spins, such as, for example, coupled quantum dots.

Fast generation of entanglement between coupled spins using optimization and deep learning methods

Dimitris Koutromanos, Dionisis Stefanatos, Emmanuel Paspalakis

Coupled spins form composite quantum systems which play an important role in many quantum technology applications, with an essential task often being the efficient generation of entanglement between two constituent qubits. The simplest such system is a pair of spins- $1/2$ coupled with Ising interaction, and in previous works various quantum control methods such as adiabatic processes, shortcuts to adiabaticity and optimal control have been employed to quickly generate there one of the maximally entangled Bell states. In this study, we use machine learning and optimization methods to produce maximally entangled states in minimum time, with the Rabi frequency and the detuning used as bounded control functions. We do not target a specific maximally entangled state, like the preceding studies, but rather find the controls which maximize the concurrence, leading thus automatically the system to the closest such state in shorter time. By increasing the bounds of the control functions we observe that the corresponding optimally selected maximally entangled state also changes and the necessary time to reach it is reduced. The present work demonstrates also that machine learning and optimization offer efficient and flexible techniques for the fast generation of entanglement in coupled spin systems, and we plan to extent it to systems involving more spins, for example spin chains.

High-fidelity entangled Bell states via shortcuts to adiabaticity

Koushik Paul, Amarendra K. Sarma

We present a couple of protocols based on shortcut to adiabaticity techniques for rapid generation of robust entangled Bell states in a pair of two-state systems. Our protocol relies on the so-called transitionless quantum driving (TQD) algorithm and Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant (LRI) method. Both TQD and LRI methods result in high fidelity in population transfer. Our study shows that it is possible to prepare an entangled state in extremely short time without losing robustness and efficiency.

Fast and robust control of two interacting spins

Xiaotong Yu, Qi Zhang, Yue Ban +1 more

Rapid preparation, manipulation, and correction of spin states with high fidelity are requisite for quantum information processing and quantum computing. In this paper, we propose a fast and robust approach for controlling two spins with Heisenberg and Ising interactions. By using the concept of shortcuts to adiabaticity, we first inverse design the driving magnetic fields for achieving fast spin flip or generating the entangled Bell state, and further optimize them with respect to the error and fluctuation. In particular, the designed shortcut protocols can efficiently suppress the unwanted transition or control error induced by anisotropic antisymmetric Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya exchange. Several examples and comparisons are illustrated, showing the advantages of our methods. Finally, we emphasize that the results can be naturally extended to multiple interacting spins and other quantum systems in an analogous fashion.

Efficient shortcuts to adiabatic passage for three-dimensional entanglement generation via transitionless quantum driving

Shuang He, Shi‐Lei Su, Dongyang Wang +5 more

We propose an effective scheme of shortcuts to adiabaticity for generating a three-dimensional entanglement of two atoms trapped in a cavity using the transitionless quantum driving (TQD) approach. The key point of this approach is to construct an effective Hamiltonian that drives the dynamics of a system along instantaneous eigenstates of a reference Hamiltonian to reproduce the same final state as that of an adiabatic process within a much shorter time. In this paper, the shortcuts to adiabatic passage are constructed by introducing two auxiliary excited levels in each atom and applying extra cavity modes and classical fields to drive the relevant transitions. Thereby, the three-dimensional entanglement is obtained with a faster rate than that in the adiabatic passage. Moreover, the influences of atomic spontaneous emission and photon loss on the fidelity are discussed by numerical simulation. The results show that the speed of entanglement implementation is greatly improved by the use of adiabatic shortcuts and that this entanglement implementation is robust against decoherence. This will be beneficial to the preparation of high-dimensional entanglement in experiment and provides the necessary conditions for the application of high-dimensional entangled states in quantum information processing.
