Abstract

In this paper, we study spectra of spontaneous emission in a semiconductor quantum well which is driven by a controlling field and a driving field. Under the quantum coherent manipulation, we analyze the properties of emission spectra and our results show the spectra can present some novel physical phenomena, such as narrowing, fluorescence quenching, suppression and enhancement. Semiconductor medium, being artificial atom, has great potential applications in some fields.

Coherent manipulation of spontaneous emission spectra in coupled semiconductor quantum well structures

Ai-Xi Chen

In triple coupled semiconductor quantum well structures (SQWs) interacting with a coherent driving filed, a coherent coupling field and a weak probe field, spontaneous emission spectra are investigated. Our studies show emission spectra can easily be manipulated through changing the intensity of the driving and coupling field, detuning of the driving field. Some interesting physical phenomena such as spectral-line enhancement/suppression, spectral-line narrowing and spontaneous emission quenching may be obtained in our system. The theoretical studies of spontaneous emission spectra in SQWS have potential application in high-precision spectroscopy. Our studies are based on the real physical system [Appl. Phys. Lett.86(20), 201112 (2005)], and this scheme might be realizable with presently available techniques.

Control of spontaneous emission in a four-level system

Yonghong Ma, Jia Liu, Jinyan Niu

Spontaneous emission in a four-level atomic system coupled by two coherent driven fields is investigated. Using a wave function technique, an explicit expression of the spontaneous emission spectrum is derived. The influence of driven fields on spontaneous emission spectra of k and q photons are investigated. The interesting phenomena including spectral line narrowing, enhancement, suppression and quenching, are observed by adjusting driven fields and detunings.

Spontaneous emission spectra from a five-level atom with a loop structure

B Zhang, Xiaohan Sun, Xiangqian Jiang

The spontaneous emission property of a five-level atom with a loop structure driven by three optical fields and a microwave field is intensively studied. Several quantum interference effects can be observed in the spontaneous emission spectra, such as spectral-line narrowing, spectral-line enhancement, spectral-line suppression, partial cancellation and fluorescence quenching. The number of emission peaks, the positions of dark lines can be controlled by varying the intensities of driving fields or the phase of the microwave field coupling the two lower levels in the atomic system. Furthermore, since no rigorous conditions are required, the expected phenomena may easily be achieved experimentally in atomic systems.

Control of Spontaneous Emission of a Four-level Atom by a Microwave Field with Lower Frequency

Nian-Hua Liu

We investigate theoretically the features of the spontaneous emission spectrum of a four-level atomic system driven by a coherent probe field,a coupling laser field and a microwave field. The two upper levels are coupled by a microwave field with lower frequency. The time evolution of the populations is calculated. It is shown that the spectra behavior, such as spectral-line narrowing,spectral-line enhancement,spectral-line suppression, and total cancellation of fluorescence quenching, can be easily controlled by changing the phase and the amplitude of the microwave field.

Control of spontaneous emission from a coherently driven four-level atom

Jin‐Hui Wu, Aijun Li, Yue Ding +2 more

We study the spontaneous-emission properties of a coherently driven four-level atom, and show a few interesting phenomena such as fluorescence quenching, spectral-line narrowing, spectral-line enhancement, and spectral-line elimination. These phenomena can be observed in experiment since the rigorous condition of near-degenerate levels with nonorthogonal dipole moments is not required here. Qualitatively, these phenomena can be attributed to the quantum interference between competitive spontaneous-decay channels in the bare-state picture or the spontaneously generated coherence between two close-lying levels in the dressed-state picture.

SPONTANEOUS EMISSION SPECTRA AND SIMULATING MULTIPLE SPONTANEOUSLY-GENERATED COHERENCE IN AN N-TYPE MEDIUM

Jiahua Li

We investigate the spontaneous emission spectra of a coherently driven four-level cold atomic system. It is shown that a few interesting phenomena such as spectral-line narrowing, spectral-line enhancement, spectral-line suppression, and spontaneous emission quenching can be realized in our system. The spectral-line enhancement and suppression can be conveniently manipulated by appropriately modulating the frequency detuning of the probe driving field. In the dressed-state picture of the probe and coupling fields, we find that this coherently-driven atomic system has three close-lying levels so that multiple spontaneously-generated coherence (SGC) arises. Our considered atomic model can be found in real atoms, such as rubidium or sodium, so a corresponding experiment can be done to observe the expected phenomena related to SGC effect, since no rigorous conditions are required.
