Abstract

Abstract Considering a two-level quantum system, we have proposed and represented a new approach for robust population transfer. In this scheme, the laser frequency has been swept in a finite time interval which simplifies the experimental limitations of the population transfer process. It is shown that using the Jaynes–Cummings model and engineering the coupling strength, the frequency sweeping range and its time interval, it is possible to achieve a robust, stable and full population transfer.

Investigation of robust population transfer using quadratically chirped laser interacting with a two-level system

Fatemeh Ahmadinouri, Mehdi Hosseini, Farrokh Sarreshtedari

Abstract We have proposed and demonstrated a fast and robust method of population transfer between two quantum states using a quadratically chirped laser source. Numerically solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation, transition probabilities have been obtained and the condition of the adiabatic passage is investigated. In this scheme, the wavelength of a laser source is quadratically swept in time to arbitrarily engineer the transition probabilities. The results show that complete and robust population transfer could be achieved by appropriate adjusting of the system parameters including the laser chirping parameter, the center frequency, and the coupling strength. Using this method, the time of the complete transition could be drastically decreased compared to the incorporation of the traditional linearly chirped laser.

In this paper, we have proposed and demonstrated a new method of atomic population transfer. The transition dynamic of a two-level system is studied in a full quantum description of the Jaynes-Cummings model.Solving the timedependent Schrödinger equation, we have investigated the transition probabilities numerically and analytically by using a sudden boost of the laser frequency. The results show that complete population transfer can be achieved by adjusting the time of the frequency boost.

Population Transfer between Two Quantum States by Piecewise Chirping of Femtosecond Pulses: Theory and Experiment

Sergey Zhdanovich, E. A. Shapiro, M. Shapiro +2 more

We propose and experimentally demonstrate the method of population transfer by piecewise adiabatic passage between two quantum states. Coherent excitation of a two-level system with a train of ultrashort laser pulses is shown to reproduce the effect of an adiabatic passage, conventionally achieved with a single frequency-chirped pulse. By properly adjusting the amplitudes and phases of the pulses in the excitation pulse train, we achieve complete and robust population transfer to the target state. The piecewise nature of the process suggests a possibility for the selective population transfer in complex quantum systems.

Effective Full Population Transfer in M-System Using Scanning Technique

Artur Aleksanyan

Abstract In this work, a theoretical model of the full population transfer in a five-level M type system is demonstrated. The method is based on the technique of linear scanning of the frequency of the laser field close to the resonance frequency of the corresponding transition. A comparison of the full population transfer obtained with the chirping technique with the results obtained by the method, which is based on the adiabatic population transfer of atomic levels, is made. The results are obtained using numerical computations.

Broadband Population Transfer Based on Suture Adiabatic Pulses

Jiaming Li, Xi-Wang Luo, Guang-Can Guo +1 more

High-fidelity coherent population transfer plays a vital role in the realization of quantum memories. However, population transfer with high performance across a broad frequency range is still challenging due to the finite Rabi coupling strength limited by laser powers. Here we propose a novel population-transfer scheme by suturing adiabatic control pulses with each pulse covering certain frequency interval, which are connected in a way that neighboring adiabatic pulses have opposite chirping directions. Taking the widely utilized hyperbolic-square-hyperbolic pulse as an example, we demonstrate that rapid and robust population transfer can be achieved. The transfer bandwidth scales linearly with the number of suture pulses while maintaining high fidelity, even at the suture points where adiabaticity breaks down. Crucially, these pulses can be realized by a single laser by means of temporal multiplexing. For a given bandwidth, this strategy substantially reduces the operational time which is necessary for on demand read-out and suppressing decoherence effects. Our scheme enables a dramatic increase in multimode storage capacity and paves the way for realizing practical quantum networks.
