We propose a scheme based on sum frequency generation seeded by multimode squeezed vacuum light. It provides manipulation of seeding mode weights, tailoring output spectral and temporal signal, generation of squeezed vacuum in sum frequency.
A theoretical approach has been developed in the Schmidt mode formalism and photon operators in these modes to describe the spectral properties of the light generated in the nonlinear process of sum-frequency generation. A special regime at which the frequency correlations of photons in the output beams are suppressed has been described in detail. The control of the mode composition and spectral properties of the nonclassical squeezed light used to illuminate the signal channel with the possibility of generating a squeezed vacuum at the sum-frequency mode has been demonstrated at this regime.
Squeezed states are a versatile class of quantum states with applications ranging from quantum computing to high-precision detection. We propose a method for generating tunable squeezed vacuum states of light with multiple modes encoded in frequency bins. Our method uses custom-engineered spontaneous parametric down-conversion pumped by a pulse-shaped pump field. The multimode squeezed states are generated in a single pass and can be tuned in real time by adjusting the properties of the pump field. Exploring new quantum states of light, encoded in new degrees of freedom, can be a fruitful path toward discovering new quantum applications.
Quantum frequency conversion, the process of shifting the frequency of an optical quantum state while preserving quantum coherence, can be used to produce non-classical light at otherwise unapproachable wavelengths. We present experimental results based on highly efficient sum-frequency generation (SFG) between a vacuum squeezed state at 1064 nm and a tunable pump source at 850 nm ± 50 nm for the generation of bright squeezed light at 472~nm ± 4~nm, currently limited by the phase-matching of the used nonlinear crystal. We demonstrate that the SFG process conserves part of the quantum coherence as a 4.2(±0.2)~dB 1064 nm vacuum squeezed state is converted to a 1.6($\pm0.2)dBtunablebrightbluesqueezedstate.Wefurthermoredemonstratesimultaneousfrequency−andspatial−modeconversionofthe1064−nmvacuumsqueezedstate,andmeasure1.1(\pm0.2)dBand0.4(\pm0.2)dBofsqueezingintheTEM_{01}$ and TEM02 modes, respectively. With further development, we foresee that the source may find use within fields such as sensing, metrology, spectroscopy, and imaging.
