Abstract

The quantum properties of optical frequency combs have been the focus of several research works in recent years. Investigating the quantum correlations between the spectral components of the combs is of fundamental interest because it allows for a better understanding of light-matter interactions, but also of technological interest as it wold permits the implementation of quantum communication networks. In this communication, we present some of our latest advances in this field.

Recent Advances in Light Matter Interactions in Temporal Media

Neetu Agrawal, Triranjita Srivastava

In this review, the progress on the research development in electromagnetic wave propagation through temporal/time-varying media is presented. Such media refers to materials or environments whose properties change over time. Therefore, unlike spatial waveguides that manipulate light based on spatial configuration of the structure, the temporal waveguides focus on the evolution of light pulses over time. Understanding temporal media is essential for developing advanced communication protocols, efficient waveguides, and accurate simulations of physical systems, ultimately improving the design and performance of various applications in science and technology. As the controlled light matter interactions in the time domain offers numerous advanced applications for secured optical communication, information processing and ultrafast optics in the realm of quantum technology. The recent advances in light-matter interactions in temporal media have openedexciting avenues for manipulating light at unprecedented levels, leading to novel applications in fields like quantum computing, telecommunications, and material science.

On-chip topological transport of integrated optical frequency combs

Zhen Jiang, Hongwei Wang, Peng Xie +10 more

Optical frequency combs in integrated photonics have widespread applications in high-dimensional optical computing, high-capacity communications, high-speed interconnects, and other paradigm-shifting technologies. However, quantum frequency combs with high-dimensional quantum states are vulnerable to decoherence, particularly in the presence of perturbations such as sharp bends. Here we experimentally demonstrate the robust on-chip topological transport of quantum frequency combs in valley photonic crystal waveguides. By measuring the time correlations and joint spectral intensity of the quantum frequency combs, we show that both quantum correlations and frequency entanglement remain robust against sharp bends, owing to the topological nature of the quantum valley Hall effect. We also demonstrate that dissipative Kerr soliton combs with a bandwidth of 20 THz maintain their spectral envelope and low-noise properties even in the presence of structure perturbations. These topologically protected optical frequency combs offer robust, complex, highly controllable, and scalable light sources, promising significant advances in high-dimensional photonic information processing.

Entanglement Distribution in Quantum Communication Networks: A Comprehensive Review

Mr. M. Subbareddy G. Silpalatha

Entanglement distribution is a fundamental building block of quantum communication networks, enabling the secure and reliable exchange of quantum information over long distances. Unlike classical communication, quantum networks exploit the unique properties of quantum entanglement to support applications such as quantum key distribution, quantum teleportation, distributed quantum computing, and networked quantum sensing. Although significant progress has been made in recent years, the efficient generation, transmission, and preservation of entangled states remain major research challenges due to photon loss, decoherence, and limitations in current communication infrastructure. This review provides a comprehensive overview of entanglement distribution in quantum communication networks, focusing on the technologies that enable practical implementation and the latest experimental developments. It discusses key approaches for generating and distributing entangled photons through optical fibers, free-space links, and satellite-based communication, together with supporting technologies such as quantum repeaters, quantum memories, and photonic devices. The review also examines recent experimental demonstrations that have advanced long-distance quantum communication while highlighting the technical barriers that must be overcome for large-scale deployment. Finally, emerging applications and future research directions are presented, including the development of scalable quantum networks, the quantum internet, and secure global communication systems. This review aims to provide researchers and students with a clear understanding of the current state of entanglement distribution and its growing role in next-generation quantum communication technologies.
