Protecting quantum correlations of the XXZ model by topological boundary conditions

Abstract

The differences between the XXZ model with topological and periodical boundary conditions were compared by studying their entanglement, quantum discord, and critical temperature above which the entanglement vanishes. It shows that the different boundary conditions mainly affect bipartite quantum correlations of the boundary spins rather than that of other spin pairs. The topological boundary spins can protect entanglement and discord against strong magnetic fields while the periodical boundary spins can protect them against nonuniform magnetic fields. Compared with the periodical XXZ model, the critical temperature is significantly improved for the topological XXZ model. The topological XXZ model also allows us to improve significantly its critical temperature by increasing the strength of magnetic field, which is not feasible for the periodical XXZ model. It is therefore more promising for preparing entangled states at high temperature in the topological XXZ model.

Magnetic quantum correlations in the one-dimensional transverse-field XXZ model

Salimeh Mahdavifar, S. Mahdavifar, Rouhollah Jafari

One-dimensional spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ systems are well-known candidates to study the quantum correlations between particles. In condensed matter physics, studies often are restricted to first-neighbor particles. In this work, we consider the one-dimensional $XXZ$ model in a transverse magnetic field (TF) which is not integrable except at specific points. Analytical expressions for quantum correlations (entanglement and quantum discord) between spin pairs at any distance are obtained for both zero and finite temperature by using the analytical approach proposed by Caux et al. [Phys. Rev. B 68, 134431 (2003)]. We compare the efficiency of the quantum discord (QD) with respect to the entanglement in the detection of critical points as the neighboring spin pairs go farther than the next-nearest neighbors. In the absence of the TF and at zero temperature, we show that the QD for spin pairs farther than the second neighbors is able to capture the critical points while the pairwise entanglement is absent. In contrast with the pairwise entanglement, two-site QD is effectively long range in the critical regimes where it decays algebraically with the distance between pairs. We also show that the thermal QD between neighbor spins possesses strong distinctive behavior at the critical point that can be seen at finite temperature and, therefore, spotlights the critical point while the entanglement fails in this task.

THERMAL AND NON-UNIFORM MAGNETIC QUANTUM DISCORD IN THE TWO-QUBIT HEISENBERG XXZ MODEL

Rui-Hua Xiao, Zhan-Ying Guo, Fang Jian-Xing

The thermal quantum discord (QD) is investigated in the two-qubit anisotropic Heisenberg XXZ model under an external non-uniform magnetic field along the Z-axis. We obtain the analytical expressions of the thermal QD and thermal entanglement measured by concurrence (C). It shows that for any temperature T, QD gradually decreases with the increase of non-uniform magnetic field |b|, in some regions where C increases while QD decreases. It is also found that thermal quantum discord does not vanish at finite temperatures, but concurrence vanishes completely at a critical temperature. It is shown that for a higher value of JZ, the system has a stronger QD. There is a critical magnetic field B c , which increases with the increasing b. QD decay monotonically (for B < B c ) when temperature T increases, or initially increases to some peaks and then decrease (for B > B c ).

Thermal quantum discord in Heisenberg XXZ model under different magnetic field conditions

Xie Mei-Qiu, Guo Bin

The quantum discord of a two-qubit one-dimonsional Heisenberg XXZ spinchain in thermal equilibrium depends on the temperature T, when subjected to different magnetic fields, with B1 and B2 acting separately on the qubit, is studied in this paper. Four cases are considered here: (1) B1=B2 = 0 (without magnetic field); (2) B1≠0,B2=0 (only one qubit in magnetic field); (3) B1=B2 (homogeneous magnetic field); (4) B1=-B2 (inhomogeneous magnetic field). The similarities and difference between quantum discord and quantum entanglement are calculated and discussed in detail. Results show that the quantum discord is more robust than quantum entanglement against temperature, and the effect of inhomogeneous magnetic field is preferable for the quantum communications and quantum information processing, as compared with the effect of homogeneous magnetic field.

Improving the nonlocal advantage of quantum coherence in the Heisenberg model by topological boundary conditions

Yu-Xia Xie, Yun-Yue Gao

Abstract The control of quantum correlations in a physical system is of practical importance. Nonlocal advantage of quantum coherence (NAQC) is a type of quantum correlation defined on the basis of quantum coherence. We present a comparative investigation of NAQC in the three-spin Heisenberg model with periodic boundary conditions (PBCs) and topological boundary conditions (TBCs). The results show that while there is no NAQC in the absence of an external magnetic field, one can create a considerable NAQC by applying a nonuniform transverse magnetic field to the three spins. In particular, the NAQC is significantly improved for the model with TBCs compared to that with PBCs, and the regions of nonvanishing NAQC can also be extended. The model considered with TBC can therefore serve as a potential candidate for creating NAQC.

Thermal quantum discord of spins in an inhomogeneous magnetic field

Jin‐Liang Guo, Yingjuan Mi, Jian Zhang +1 more

In contrast with the thermal entanglement, we study the quantum discord and classical correlation in a two-qubit Heisenberg XXZ model with an inhomogeneous magnetic field. It is shown that the effects of the external magnetic fields, including the uniform and inhomogeneous magnetic fields, on the thermal entanglement, quantum discord and classical correlation behave differently in various aspects, which depend on system temperature and model type. We can tune the inhomogeneous magnetic field to enhance the entanglement or classical correlation and meanwhile decrease the quantum discord. In addition, taking into account the inhomogeneous magnetic field, the sudden change in the behaviour of quantum discord still survives, which can detect the critical points of quantum phase transitions at finite temperature, but not for a uniform magnetic field.

Quantum thermal discord in a two-spin-1/2 XXZ model

Qiong Wang, Jie‐Qiao Liao, Zeng Hao-Sheng

We study the quantum discord in a two-spin-1/2 XXZ model in thermal equilibrium at temperature T in the presence of an external magnetic field B . Special attention is paid to the dependence of quantum discord on the temperature T and magnetic field B . It is found that quantum thermal discord is more robust than concurrence against temperature, in the sense that quantum thermal discord does not vanish at finite temperatures, but concurrence vanishes completely at a critical temperature.
