Abstract

We propose a destination-based jamming scheme for cooperative networks with multiple untrusted amplify-and-forward relays, in which the destination operates in full-duplex mode so as to enable simultaneous reception of the information coming directly from the source and the transmission of jamming signals to the untrusted relay. An approximate analytical expression for the secrecy outage probability, under the effect of residual self-interference at the destination, is presented. The developed analysis is verified through Monte Carlo simulations.

This paper investigates the impact of outdated channel estimates on the secrecy performance of multiple untrusted relay networks, where the direct link is used as an additional path of information and a destination-based jamming method is employed. In the proposed setup, the destination is considered to be equipped with two antennas in order to operate in fullduplex mode, thus allowing the reception of information from the source, while sending a jamming signal to prevent the untrusted relays from eavesdropping information. The system performance is evaluated in terms of the secrecy outage probability via Monte Carlo simulations.

Secure amplify-and-forward untrusted relaying networks using cooperative jamming and zero-forcing cancelation

Ki‐Hong Park, Mohamed‐Slim Alouini

In this paper, we investigate secure transmission in untrusted amplify-and-forward half-duplex relaying networks with the help of cooperative jamming at the destination (CJD). Under the assumption of full channel state information (CSI), conventional CJD using self-interference cancellation at the destination is efficient when the untrusted relay has no capability to suppress the jamming signal. However, if the source and destination are equipped with a single antenna and the only untrusted relay is equipped with N multiple antennas, it can remove the jamming signal from the received signal by linear filters and the full multiplexing gain of relaying cannot be achievable with the conventional CJD due to the saturation of the secrecy rate at the high transmit power regime. We propose in this paper new CJD scheme where neither destination nor relay can acquire CSI of relay-destination link. Our proposed scheme utilizes zero-forcing cancelation based on known jamming signals instead of self-interference subtraction, while the untrusted relay cannot suppress the jamming signals due to the lack of CSI. We show that the secrecy rate of the proposed scheme can enjoy a half of multiplexing gain in half-duplex relaying while that of conventional CJD is saturated at high transmit power for N ≥2. The impact of channel estimation error at the destination is also investigated to show the robustness of the proposed scheme against strong estimation errors.

Cooperative jamming secure scheme for untrusted full-duplex relay system

Bolun Li, Tao Liang

In this paper, we focus on a practical communication system, an untrusted full-duplex relay (UFDR) network with a transmitter Alice and a full-duplex receiver Bob. The relay is untrusted who is supposed to forward the signal to Bob and at the same time, acts as a potential eavesdropper to intercept the message from Alice. Since there is no direct link between Alice and Bob, positive secrecy rate can not be obtained. To handle with this issue, based on the precondition that in-band full-duplex technology has been basically matured and can be applied in relay communication, we propose a destination-aided cooperative intended jamming scheme (UFDR-IJ scheme for short). We study the secure performance of the communication system model described in this paper, and obtain a closed-form expression for the secrecy outage probability which verifies the fact that the UFDR-IJ scheme can significantly enhance the secure performance while double the secrecy capacity of the communication system comparing to the traditional cooperative communication scheme.

Secrecy Performance of Untrustworthy AF Relay Networks using Cooperative Jamming and SWIPT

Edson Nobuyuki Egashira, Edgar Eduardo Benítez Olivo, Diana Pamela Moya Osorio +1 more

In this paper, the secrecy outage performance of a three-node amplify-and-forward relay network with an untrustworthy relay is investigated. To enable a secure transmission, we consider a destination-based jamming technique to prevent the relay from successfully decoding the secret messages between the source and the destination. In addition, the relay is assumed to be an energy-constrained device, thus being first energized by the source in order to be able to retransmit the information to the destination. In doing so, a time switching-based simultaneous wireless information and power transfer scheme is used. A closed-form asymptotic expression for the secrecy outage probability is derived in order to obtain a tight approximation at medium-to-high signal-to-noise ratio. The accuracy of the performed analysis is corroborated by Monte Carlo simulations through different illustrative cases. Numerical results show the impact of key system parameters on the secrecy performance, such as the time allocation factor between the energy harvesting and information transmission phases, the power allocation factor between source and destination for cooperative jamming, and the relay position, so as to provide insights on the design criteria for energy efficient and secure networks.

Secure Cooperative Fixed Gain Untrusted Relay Networks with Destination Assisted Jamming under Nakagami-m Fading Channels

Anshul Pandey, Suneel Yadav

In this paper, we investigate the secrecy performance of a dual-hop cooperative untrusted relay network. In this network, a source node communicates with the destination node via an untrusted fixed-gain amplify-and-forward (AF) relay node. We use destination-assisted jamming so as to keep the source and destination nodes information confidential from the relay node. Under this scenario, we derive the exact secrecy outage probability (SOP) expression, tight approximate SOP expression, and asymptotic SOP expression in the high signal-to-noise ratio regime under Nakagami-m fading channels. The analysis studied in this paper can be applicable to any AF relaying systems for fixed relay gain, and two scenarios to calculate the fixed gain are compared in terms of SOP performance. Finally, the numerical and simulation studies corroborate our analytical findings.

Outage optimal relay selection strategy using destination-based jamming for secure communication in amplify-and-forward relay networks

Sarbani Ghose, Ranjan Bose

In this paper, we consider a two-hop wireless system consisting of one source, one destination, one eavesdropper and multiple amplify-and-forward relays. A time-division duplex scheme is proposed that aims at minimizing the secrecy rate outage by selecting an optimal relay from the set of candidate relays. In the first time slot, the source transmits the information bearing signal, meanwhile the destination jams the eavesdropper. In the second slot, the selected relay forwards the received signals in amplify-and-forward fashion. Out of two hops, the eavesdropper can tap only the signal transmitted by the relay in the second hop. We obtain a closed-form expression of the end-to-end secrecy outage for instantaneous and statistical channel-state information of the eavesdropper. The analytical results suggest that the proposed destination-based jamming outperforms the conventional relay selection scheme without jamming. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to verify the analytical results.
