Abstract

This paper investigates a secure wireless-powered integrated service system with full-duplex self-energy recycling. Specifically, an energy-constrained information transmitter (IT), powered by a power station (PS) in a wireless fashion, broadcasts two types of services to all users: a multicast service intended for all users and a confidential unicast service subscribed to by only one user while protecting it from any other unsubscribed users and an eavesdropper. Our goal is to jointly design the optimal input covariance matrices for the energy beamforming, the multicast service, the confidential unicast service, and the artificial noises from the PS and the IT, such that the secrecy-multicast rate region (SMRR) is maximized subject to the transmit power constraints. Due to the non-convexity of the SMRR maximization (SMRRM) problem, we employ a semidefinite programming-based two-level approach to solve this problem and find all of its Pareto optimal points. In addition, we extend the SMRRM problem to the imperfect channel-state information case, where a worst-case SMRRM formulation is investigated. Moreover, we exploit the optimized transmission strategies for the confidential service and energy transfer by analyzing their own rank-one profile. Finally, numerical results are provided to validate our proposed schemes.

Robust Secure Beamforming for Wireless Powered Full-Duplex Systems With Self-Energy Recycling

Wei Qiang Wu, Baoyun Wang, Yong Zeng +3 more

In this paper, we study a multiuser wireless powered communication system, where an energy-constrained full-duplex information transmitter (IT), powered by wireless energy from a dedicated energy transmitter (ET), intends to send confidential information to the information receiver (IR) in the presence of multiple idle users that could be the potential eavesdroppers. In the practical scenario of imperfect channel state information and assuming that the idle users need to harvest energy from the ET, we aim to maximize the worst-case secrecy rate at the IR by jointly optimizing the transmit covariance matrix at the ET as well as the information beamforming and artificial noise covariance at the IT, subject to their individual transmit power constraints and the minimum required power transferred to the idle users. We employ the semidefinite relaxation (SDR) and extended S-procedure approaches to transform the original nonconvex optimization problem into convex problem, which can be efficiently solved by solving a sequence of semidefinite programs. Furthermore, we show that the SDR is tight since there always exists a rank-one optimal solution. For performance comparison, two heuristic schemes for ease of implementation are also developed. Numerical results are presented to show the effectiveness of our proposed schemes.

Energy-efficient optimization for MISO Gaussian broadcast channel with integrated services

Weidong Mei, Lingxiang Li, Zhi Chen +1 more

This paper considers an energy-efficient transmit design in a three-node MISO wiretap channel in the eyes of service integration. Specifically, we combine two sorts of services, and serve them simultaneously: one multicast message intended for both receivers and one confidential message intended for only one authorized receiver. The confidential message must be kept perfectly secure from the unauthorized receiver. Our goal is to jointly design the input covariance matrices of the multicast message and confidential message such that the secrecy energy efficiency (SEE) is maximized, subject to the multicast rate, secrecy rate and total transmit power constraints. Due to the nonconvexity of this problem, an equivalent parametric reformulation, based on the fractional programming theory, is proposed to recast this problem as a sequence of semidefinite programs. By this means, the maximum SEE can be found via a root search algorithm. Moreover, we also give an approach to constructing a rank-one optimal covariance matrix of the confidential message from our proposed algorithm, which implies the feasibility of transmit beamforming to achieve the maximum SEE. Numerical results are finally presented to verify the efficacy of our proposed method.

Transmitter optimization for MISO system with service integration of multicasting and confidential broadcasting

Shiyu Chen, Zhi Chen, Weidong Mei +1 more

This paper considers a two-user multiple-input single-output Gaussian broadcast channel model with two sorts of information transfer, i.e., multicasting and confidential broadcasting. Specifically, three service messages are combined at the transmitter. The transmitter sends a multicast message to both users, and a confidential message to each user which is kept perfectly secret from the other user. Our goal is to jointly design the optimal input covariances for the multicast message and the two confidential messages, such that the secrecy capacity region is maximized. This problem can be formulated as a secrecy rate maximization (SRM) problem with the quality of multicast service constraint and the quality of confidential service constraint. This SRM problem is nonconvex by nature. To solve it, we reveal its hidden convexity and transform the original SRM problem into a semidefinite programming problem. Furthermore, we prove that the optimal input covariance matrices of the multicast message and the two confidential messages are always with rank one, which implies the optimality of beamforming. Besides, we show that the arithmetic complexity of our proposed method is polynomial with regard to the dimension of the optimization variables. Numerical results are finally presented to show the efficacy of our proposed method.

Secure Transmission and Self-Energy Recycling With Partial Eavesdropper CSI

Jingping Qiao, Haixia Zhang, Feng Zhao +1 more

This paper focuses on the secure transmission of wireless-powered relay systems with the imperfect eavesdropper channel state information. For efficient energy transfer and information relaying, a novel two-phase protocol is proposed, in which the relay operates in a full-duplex (FD) mode to achieve the simultaneous wireless power and information transmission. Compared with those existing protocols, the proposed design possesses two main advantages: 1) it fully exploits the available hardware resource (antenna element) of relay and can offer a higher secrecy rate and 2) it enables the self-energy recycling (S-ER) at relay, in which the loopback interference generated by the FD operation is harvested and reused for information relaying. To maximize the worst-case secrecy rate (WCSR) through jointly designing the source and relay beamformers coupled with the power allocation ratio, an optimization problem is formulated. This formulated problem is proved to be non-convex and the challenge to solve it is how to concurrently solve out the beamformers and the power allocation ratio. To cope with this difficulty, an alternative approach is proposed by converting the original problem into three subproblems. By solving these subproblems iteratively, the closed-form solutions of robust beamformers and power allocation ratio for the original problem are achieved. Simulations are done and results reveal that the proposed S-ER -based secure transmission scheme outperforms the traditional time-switching based relaying scheme at a maximum WCSR gain of 80%. Results also demonstrate that the WCSR performance of the scheme reusing all antennas for information reception is much better than that of schemes exploiting only one antenna.

Secrecy rate maximization for MISO multicasting SWIPT system with power splitting scheme

Miao Zhang, Kanapathippillai Cumanan, Alister Graham Burr

This paper considers transmit covariance matrix design for secrecy rate maximization problem in a multiple-input single-output (MISO) multicasting simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) system. In order to enhance the performance of the system, artificial noise (AN) is added to the transmit signal in the design for the following purposes: to reduce the received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the eavesdroppers and increase the harvested energy. We assume that all the channel-state-information (CSI) is perfectly known at the transmitter and all legitimate users are capable of simultaneously receiving information and harvesting energy. In addition, all the eavesdroppers are passive and they can harvest energy only when they are not intercepting or eavesdropping the messages intended for the legitimate users. The original secrecy rate maximization problem is not convex in terms of transmit and artificial covariance matrices as well as the power splitting (PS) ratio. In order to circumvent this non-convexity issue, we exploit the Charnes-Cooper Transformation and semidefinite relaxation (SDR) to convert this original problem into a convex one. However, this convex problem does not always yield the rank-one transmit and AN covariance matrices to obtain the solution of the original problem. Therefore, we analyze the optimal conditions and utilize a Gaussian randomization (GR) method to construct the rank-one solutions from the non-rank one results. Simulation results have been provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed transmit covariance matrices design for MISO multicasting SWIPT system.
