Quantum Fisher Information: Theory and Applications

Volkan Erol

Entanglement is at the heart of quantum technologies such as quantum information and quantum metrology. Providing larger quantum Fisher information (QFI), entangled systems can be better resources than separable systems in quantum metrology. QFI topic is a very active research area and it has many possible usage areas in quantum information domain. In this study, we review quantum Fisher information research with both from theoritical and application perspective.

Quantum metrology with a non-Markovian qubit system

Jiang Huang, Wen-Qing Shi, Yu-Ping Xie +2 more

The dynamics of the quantum Fisher information (QFI) of phase parameter estimation in a non-Markovian dissipative qubit system is investigated within the structure of single and double Lorentzian spectra. We use the time-convolutionless method with fourth-order perturbation expansion to obtain the general forms of QFI for the qubit system in terms of a non-Markovian master equation. We find that the phase parameter estimation can be enhanced in our model within both single and double Lorentzian spectra. What is more, the detuning and spectral width are two significant factors affecting the enhancement of parameter-estimation precision.

Contextual quantum metrology

Abstract We demonstrate that the contextuality of measurement selection can enhance the precision of quantum metrology with a simple linear optical experiment. Contextuality is a nonclassical property known as a resource for various quantum information processing tasks. Recent studies show that contextuality by anomalous weak values can be utilized to enhance metrological precision, unraveling the role of contextuality in quantum metrology. Our contextual quantum metrology (coQM) scheme can elevate the precision inferred from the observed Fisher information as much as six times the precision limit given by the quantum Fisher information (QFI), and, when the Godambe information is used, the precision inferred becomes about two times lower than the precision limit. We achieve the contextuality-enabled precision with two mutually complementary measurements, whereas, in the conventional method, some optimal measurements to achieve the precision limit are either theoretically challenging to find or experimentally infeasible to realize. These results highlight that the contextuality of measurement selection is applicable in practice for quantum metrology.
