Quasi-relativistic description of a quantum particle moving through one-dimensional piecewise constant potentials

Luis Grave de Peralta

Using a novel quasi-relativistic wave equation, which can give precise results up to energies ~mc2, exact quantum mechanical solutions are found which corresponds to a particle with mass moving through one-dimensional piecewise constant potentials. As expected, at low particle’s speeds, the found solutions coincide with the solutions of the same problems calculated using the Schrödinger equation; however, as it should be, both solutions have a significative difference at quasi-relativistic speeds. Then, it is argued that the quasi-relativistic wave equation provides a simpler description than a fully relativistic theory or the perturbation approach for a quantum particle moving at quasi-relativistic energies through piecewise constant potentials.

Non-Relativistic Particle under the Influence of Aharonov-Bohm Flux Field Subject to Physical Potentials and the Nikiforov-Uvarov Method

Faizuddin Ahmed, Kayser Ahmed, Akheruzzaman Ahmed +2 more

In this work, the non-relativistic wave equation via the Schrödinger wave equation under the influence of the Aharonov-Bohm flux field Subject to physical potentials of various kinds is investigated. These potentials are modified Coulomb potential, modified harmonic oscillator potential, the Kratzer-Feus potential, and the Mie-type potential which have wide applications in different branches of physics and chemistry. We solve the Schrodinger wave equation using the Nikiforov-Uvarov (NU) method and obtain the energy profiles and the wave function of the non-relativistic particle, and analyze the effects of potential and the quantum flux on them. We show that each non-relativistic energy level gets modified in comparison to the known results obtained in the literature.

Semi-relativistic wave-phase approximation for two-body spinless bound states in 1+1 dimensions

Karl-Erik Thylwe, Sergey Belov

An approximate quantum-mechanical two-body equation for spinless particles incorporating relativistic kinematics is derived. The derivation is based on the relativistic energy-momentum relation $mc^{2}+ε= \sqrt{m^{2}c^{4}+p^{2}c^{2}}+V$ for each single particle, where $mc^2$ is the particle rest mass energy, $p$ its linear momentum, $ε$ its dynamical energy, and $V$ being the time-like vector interaction potential. The resulting two-body equation assumes rapid wave oscillations in a single, slowly varying potential well. A Bohr-Sommerfeld-type quantization condition is obtained. The approximation is compared to exact results for the harmonic potential.

An approximate quantum-mechanical two-body equation for spinless particles incorporating relativistic kinematics is derived. The derivation is based on the relativistic energy-momentum relation mc2+ε=m2c4+p2c2+Vmc^{2}+ε= \sqrt{m^{2}c^{4}+p^{2}c^{2}}+Vmc2+ε=m2c4+p2c2+V for each single particle, where mc2mc^2mc2 is the particle rest mass energy, ppp its linear momentum, εεε its dynamical energy, and VVV being the time-like vector interaction potential. The resulting two-body equation assumes rapid wave oscillations in a single, slowly varying potential well. A Bohr-Sommerfeld-type quantization condition is obtained. The approximation is compared to exact results for the harmonic potential.
