Abstract

Abstract The uncertainty principle is viewed as one of the appealing properties in the context of quantum mechanics, which intrinsically offers a lower bound with regard to the measurement outcomes of a pair of incompatible observables within a given system. In this letter, we attempt to observe entropic uncertainty in the presence of quantum memory under different local noisy channels. To be specific, we develop the dynamics of the measured uncertainty under local bit-phase-flipping (unital) and depolarization (nonunital) noise, respectively, and attractively put forward an effective strategy to manipulate its magnitude of the uncertainty of interest by means of parity-time symmetric ( -symmetric) operations on the subsystem to be measured. It is interesting to find that there exist different evolution characteristics of the uncertainty in the channels considered here, i.e. the monotonic behavior in the nonunital channels, and the non-monotonic behavior in the unital channels. Moreover, the amount of the measured uncertainty can be reduced to some degree by properly modulating the -symmetric operations.

Observation of quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relation under open systems, and its steering

Pengfei Chen, Wen‐Yang Sun, Fei Ming +3 more

Abstract Quantum objects are susceptible to noise from their surrounding environments, interaction with which inevitably gives rise to quantum decoherence or dissipation effects. In this work, we examine how different types of local noise under an open system affect entropic uncertainty relations for two incompatible measurements. Explicitly, we observe the dynamics of the entropic uncertainty in the presence of quantum memory under two canonical categories of noisy environments: unital (phase flip) and nonunital (amplitude damping). Our study shows that the measurement uncertainty exhibits a non-monotonic dynamical behavior—that is, the amount of the uncertainty will first inflate, and subsequently decrease, with the growth of decoherence strengths in the two channels. In contrast, the uncertainty decreases monotonically with the growth of the purity of the initial state shared in prior. In order to reduce the measurement uncertainty in noisy environments, we put forward a remarkably effective strategy to steer the magnitude of uncertainty by means of a local non-unitary operation (i.e. weak measurement) on the qubit of interest. It turns out that this non-unitary operation can greatly reduce the entropic uncertainty, upon tuning the operation strength. Our investigations might thereby offer an insight into the dynamics and steering of entropic uncertainty in open systems.

Manipulating the measured uncertainty under Lee-Yang dephasing channels through local $${\cal P}{\cal T}$$-symmetric operations

Ling-Yu Yao, Lijuan Li, Xue‐Ke Song +2 more

Uncertainty relation lies at the heart of quantum physics, which is one of the fundamental characteristics of quantum mechanics. With the advent of quantum information theory, entropic uncertainty relation was proposed, which plays an important and irreplaceable role in quantum information science. In this work, we attempt to observe dynamics of entropic uncertainty in the presence of quantum memory under two different types of Lee-Yang dephasing channels. It is interesting to find that the dephasing channels have a negative effect on decreasing the uncertainty and the analogous partition function is anti-correlated with the uncertainty. In addition, we here propose an effective strategy to manipulate the uncertainty of interest of the subsystem by performing a parity-time symmetric ( $${\cal P}{\cal T}$$ -symmetric) operation. It is worth noting that the uncertainty of measurement will be reduced to a certain extent by properly modulating the $${\cal P}{\cal T}$$ -symmetric operations under the considered channels. In this sense, we argue that our explorations offer insight into dynamics of entropic uncertainty in typical Lee-Yang dephasing channels, and might be beneficial to quantum measurement estimation in practical quantum systems.

Unveiling the decoherence effect of noise on the entropic uncertainty relation and its control by partially collapsed operations

Min-Nan Chen, Wen‐Yang Sun, Ai-Jun Huang +3 more

Abstract In this work, we investigate the dynamics of quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relations under open systems, and how to steer the uncertainty under different types of decoherence. Specifically, we develop the dynamical behaviors of the uncertainty of interest under two typical categories of noise; bit flipping and depolarizing channels. It has been shown that the measurement uncertainty firstly increases and then decreases with the growth of the decoherence strength in bit flipping channels. In contrast, the uncertainty monotonically increases with the increase of the decoherence strength in depolarizing channels. Notably, and to a large degree, it is shown that the uncertainty depends on both the systematic quantum correlation and the minimal conditional entropy of the observed subsystem. Moreover, we present a possible physical interpretation for these distinctive behaviors of the uncertainty within such scenarios. Furthermore, we propose a simple and effective strategy to reduce the entropic uncertainty by means of a partially collapsed operation—quantum weak measurement. Therefore, our investigations might offer an insight into the dynamics of the measurment uncertainty under decoherence, and be of importance to quantum precision measurement in open systems.

Quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relation under noise

Zhenyu Xu, Wanli Yang, Mang Feng

The measurement outcomes of two incompatible observables on a particle can be precisely predicted when it is maximally entangled with a quantum memory. In this work, we explore the behavior of the quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relation under the influence of local unital and nonunital noisy channels. For a class of Bell-diagonal states, we demonstrate that while the unital noises only increase the amount of uncertainty, the amplitude-damping nonunital noises may reduce the amount of uncertainty in the long-time limit. The mechanism behind this phenomenon is also explored by using two dissimilar methods.

Entropic uncertainty relation under quantum channels with memory

You-neng Guo, Mao-Fa Fang, Zeng, Ke

Recently, Xu et al. [Phys. Rev. A 86, 012113(2012)] explored the behavior of the entropic uncertainty relation under the influence of local unital and nonunital noisy channels for a class of Bell-diagonal states. We here reform their results and investigate the entropic uncertainty relation under the influence of unital and nonunital noisy channels with memory. Different types of noisy channels with memory, such as amplitude damping channel(nonunitary), phase-damping and depolarizing channels(unitary) have been taken into account. Some analytical or numerical results are presented. The effect of channels with memory on dynamics of the entropic uncertainties (or their lower bounds) has been discussed in detail. Compare with previous results, our results show that, the entropic uncertainties (or their lower bounds) subjecting to amplitude damping channel with memory will be reduced at first and then be lifted with the memory coefficient of channel $μ$ increasing, however they will be only reduced under phase-damping and depolarizing channels with memory. Especially, in the limit of $μ\rightarrow1$, the entropic uncertainties (or their lower bounds) could be well protected and immune to decoherence of channle. Moreover, the mechanism behind these phenomena are also explored by using the purity of state.
