Abstract

To improve the secrecy performance of the untrusted relay system with a multiple-antenna destination, a novel full-duplex destination jamming scheme with optimal antenna selection (FDJ-OAS) is proposed in this paper. The approximate closed-form expressions of the average achievable secrecy rate are derived for the proposed scheme. To attain more insightful results, the approximated closed-form expressions for the average achievable secrecy rate and the optimal power allocation factor for FDJ-OAS are derived in the case with a large-scale antenna array, and simple power allocation solutions are also provided in the high and low SNR regimes, respectively. Furthermore, we derive the asymptotic expressions for the secrecy outage probability under different asymptotic conditions for the proposed scheme, and the analysis results indicate that the secrecy diversity order of FDJ-OAS is significantly superior to that of the comparable schemes. Simulation results show that the analytical curves match well with the simulation results, and the advantage of FDJ-OAS is also clearly demonstrated through performance comparison.

Large-scale antennas analysis of untrusted relay system with cooperative jamming

Xing Guo Tan, Rui Zhao, Yuanjian Li

In Rayleigh fading channels, a novel full-duplex destination jamming with optimal antenna selection (FDJ-OAS) scheme is proposed to improve the secrecy performance of the untrusted relay system with multiple-antenna destination. The traditional half-duplex destination jamming scheme and the nonjamming scheme both combined with OAS are presented to compare with FDJ-OAS. The approximate closed-form expressions of ergodic achievable secrecy rate and optimal power allocation factor for FDJ-OAS are significantly derived in the large-scale antennas analysis. Furthermore, simulation results show that, the analytical curves match well with the simulation curves, and the FDJ-OAS is superior to the other two schemes.

Source-Based Jamming for Physical-Layer Security on Untrusted Full-Duplex Relay

Saman Atapattu, Nathan Ross, Yindi Jing +1 more

We address the problem of secure wireless communications over an untrusted full-duplex (FD) relay based on the source jamming scheme. The optimal power allocation between the confidential signal and the jamming signal is derived to maximize the secrecy rate. Then, the corresponding secrecy outage probability (SOP) and the average secrecy rate (ASR) are analyzed. A tight approximation and an asymptotic result are further obtained for the single-antenna destination case both in simple forms. The large-antenna destination case is also analyzed rigorously. Further discussion reveals that transmit-power dependent self-interference has significant negative impact on the secrecy performance.

Performance Study of Untrusted Relay Network Utilizing Cooperative Jammer

Ali Kuhestani, Abbas Mohammadi, Mohammad Javad Emadi

Abstract—In this paper, the problem of secure transmission in two-hop amplify-and-forward (AF) systems with an untrusted relay is investigated. To prevent the untrusted relay from intercepting the source message and to achieve positive secrecy rate, the destination-based cooperative jamming (DBCJ) technique is used. In this method the destination sends an intended jamming signal to the relay. This jamming signal helps protecting the source message from being captured reliably at the untrusted relay, while the destination cancels itself intended jamming signal. The optimal power allocation (OPA) technique is considered for the presented system. It is observed that the objective function is a quasiconcave function at high signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) regimes. Based on this OPA technique, we study the ergodic secrecy rate (ESR) and the secrecy outage probability (SOP) of the system when the source and relay are equipped with a single antenna while the destination is equipped with largescale antenna arrays (LSA). Using the achieved closed-form expressions, one can evaluate the performance of the secure system easily and fast and also, they provide significant insight for system design. Finally, simulation results indicate the accuracy of the derived expressions.

Secrecy Outage Performance for DF Buffer-Aided Relaying Networks With a Multi-Antenna Destination

Chen Wei, Wendong Yang, Yueming Cai +2 more

In this paper, we investigate the secrecy outage performance of decode-and-forward (DF) buffer-aided relaying networks with a multi-antenna destination in the presence of an eavesdropper. In order to take full advantage of the benefits provided by the multiple antennas at the destination and the available relays, we adopt the max-link relay selection scheme and propose a half-duplex and two full-duplex secure transmission schemes for secrecy improvement, i.e., 1) maximal-ratio combining (MRC), 2) maximal-ratio combining/cooperative jamming (MRC/CJ), and 3) zero-forcing beamforming/cooperative jamming (ZFB/CJ). For all proposed schemes, we present exact and asymptotic closed-form expressions of the secrecy outage probability by modeling the dynamic buffer state transitions as a Markov chain. Moreover, simple and informative asymptotic results are provided under both L → ∞ and L → ∞ scenarios (where L denotes the buffer size), from which we can obtain further insights on the secrecy diversity gain and the secrecy coding gain. The highlights of this paper can be summarized as follows: 1) Under L → ∞ scenario, the secrecy diversity gains of all proposed schemes both reach M. When L → ∞, the secrecy diversity gains of MRC, MRC/CJ and ZFB/CJ increase to M (1 + ND), MND and 2M respectively, where M is the number of relays and ND represents the number of antennas at the destination; 2) The secrecy coding gain of the system differs with different schemes, and it improves with the increase of M and ND under both the two scenarios; and 3) Under the scenario L → ∞, ZFB/CJ outperforms MRC and MRC/CJ across the entire signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) range of interest, however, when L→ ∞, ZFB/CJ outperforms MRC/CJ and MRC in the low SNR regime, while the opposite holds in the high SNR regime.

Secrecy performance analysis of artificial noise aided precoding in full-duplex relay systems

Yuanjian Li, Rui Zhao, Xing Guo Tan +1 more

In Rayleigh fading channels, we investigate the secrecy performance of a full-duplex relay secure transmission system. To improve the secrecy capacity of the system and efficiently interfere the interception of the eavesdropper, the multiple-antenna source applies the artificial noise aided precoding (ANP) scheme to broadcast the intended signal and the artificial noise simultaneously, and the decode-and-forward relay operates in full- duplex mode. To improve the received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the multiple-antenna destination applies maximum ratio combining (MRC) strategy. In the presence of self-interference at the relay, the approximate closed-form expression of ergodic achievable secrecy rate (EASR) for any values of antenna number and the exact closed-form expression of EASR for large-scale antennas array were derived respectively. Both the theoretical analysis and numerical simulations show that the ANP combined with full-duplex scheme can achieve considerable secrecy performance gain.

Robust Performance of Secure Transmission in Multi-Antenna Untrusted Relay Networks

Dechuan Chen, Jianwei Hu, Lei Wang +3 more

In this work, we investigate the secrecy performance in multi-antenna untrusted relay networks, where destination-aided jamming is incorporated to help reduce the amount of confidential information leaked to an untrusted relay. We conduct a robust secrecy performance analysis for the worst-case scenario, where the antenna selection technique is performed at the untrusted relay for data reception and retransmission, and the selected antenna is the one with the highest probability of interrupting the confidential information. In addition, maximal ratio transmission is used at the source and destination for sending information and jamming signals. Under this transmission scheme, we derive the novel exact and asymptotic closed-form expressions for the secrecy outage probability (SOP) to evaluate the secrecy performance with arbitrary number of antennas. Numerical and simulation results indicate that there exists an optimal number of transmit antennas at the source to achieve the tradeoff between reliability and security.
