Cryptanalysis and Countermeasure of “An Efficient NTRU-based Authentication Protocol in IoT Environment”

Yohan Park, Woojin Seok, Wonhyuk Lee +1 more

A quantum computer is a paradigm of information processing that can show remarkable possibilities of exponentially improved information processing. However, this paradigm could disrupt the current cryptosystem, which is called quantum computing attacks, by calculating factoring problem and discrete logarithm problem. Recently, NTRU is applied to various security systems, because it provides security against to provide secu-rity against quantum computing attacks. Furthermore, NTRU provides similar security level and efficient computation time of encryption/decryption compared to traditional PKC. In 2018, Jeong et al. proposed an user authentication and key distribution scheme using NTRU. They claimed that their scheme provides various security properties and secure against quantum comput-ing attacks. In this paper, we demonstrate that their scheme has security pitfalls and incorrectness in login and authentication phase. We also suggest countermeasures to fix the incorrectness and provide security against various attacks.

Quantum resistant NTRU-based key distribution scheme for SIP

SeongHa Jeong, Kisung Park, Youngho Park

A ECC-based key distribution protocol for SIP environment is proposed by Arshad et al. However, traditional public key cryptosystems such as ECC and RSA is vulnerable to quantum computing attacks. In this paper, to resolve theses security weakness, we propose a key distribution protocol using the NTRU of lattice-based cryptosystem. Our proposed scheme is applied to quantum environment efficiently.

Security weakness of a lattice-based key exchange protocol

Daya Sagar Gupta, G. P. Biswas, Roushan Nandan

A key exchange protocol is an important primitive in the field of information and network security and is used to exchange a common secret key among various parties. A number of key exchange protocols exist in the literature and most of them are based on the Diffie-Hellman (DH) problem. But, these DH type protocols cannot resist to the modern computing technologies like quantum computing, grid computing etc. Therefore, a more powerful non-DH type key exchange protocol is required which could resist the quantum and exponential attacks. In the year 2013, Lei and Liao, thus proposed a lattice-based key exchange protocol. Their protocol was related to the NTRU-ENCRYPT and NTRU-SIGN and so, was referred as NTRU-KE. In this paper, we identify that NTRU-KE lacks the authentication mechanism and suffers from the man-in-the-middle (MITM) attack. This attack may lead to the forging the authenticated users and exchanging the wrong key.
