Abstract

Abstract A single-photon frequency conversion scheme is proposed to generate three-dimensional entanglement between a quantum emitter and a photon with different frequencies. In the scheme, after scattered by a four-level quantum emitter on Sagnac loop, input photon is divided into three parts and each has its own frequency via constructive interference. In addition, through tuning system parameters, we can achieve equal probability amplitudes of output photons which mean the realization of three-dimensional entanglement. Our calculations show that the present scheme is robust against the deviation of experimental and decoherence.

Single-photon frequency conversion and multi-mode entanglement via constructive interference on Sagnac loop

Anshou Zheng, Guangyong Zhang, Liangwei Gui +1 more

Based on constructive interference in Sagnac waveguide loop, an efficient scheme is proposed for selective frequency conversion and multifrequency modes W entanglement via input–output formalism. We can adjust the probability amplitudes of output photons by choosing parameter values properly. The tunable probability amplitude will lead to the generation of output photon with a selectable frequency and W photonic entanglement of different frequencies modes in a wide range of parameter values. Our calculations show the present scheme is robust to the deviation of parameters and spontaneous decay.

Single-photon frequency conversion for generation of entanglement via constructive interference in Sagnac interferometers

Anshou Zheng, Xin-you Lü, Jibing Liu

A single-photon frequency conversion process with a Sagnac interferometer (Bradford et al 2012 Phys. Rev. Lett. 108 103902 and Bradford and Shen 2012 Phys. Rev. A 85 043814) is described by the input–output formalism. The result shows that a perfect frequency conversion can be obtained in an appropriate parameter regime via constructive interference. Based on the frequency-conversion process, an alternative scheme is provided for the generation of entanglement between distant particles including two-body entanglement and multi-body Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger entanglement. We study the effect of the parameters' deviation and spontaneous decay of the excited state and waveguide mode on the transmission amplitudes, and also on the frequency-conversion efficiency. In addition, the influence of the experimental parameters on the fidelity of the entangled state is discussed.

Efficient Single-Photon Frequency Conversion Using a Sagnac Interferometer

Matthew Bradford, Kenechukwu C. Obi, Jung‐Tsung Shen

We propose a scheme for efficient optical frequency conversion at the single-photon power level. The scheme exploits the quantum interference of single-photon states at a three-level quantum emitter coupled to a Sagnac interferometer. We show that this device can achieve single-photon frequency up- or down-conversion with near unity efficiency.

Single-photon frequency conversion by exploiting quantum interference

Matthew Bradford, Jung‐Tsung Shen

We present a scheme to achieve efficient single-photon frequency conversion by exploiting quantum interference between different transition pathways for single-photon states. As an example, we discuss the single-photon frequency-conversion process in the configuration wherein a $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$-type (Lambda-type) three-level quantum emitter is coupled to a Sagnac interferometer. It is shown that the efficiency of the frequency conversion approaches unity in the ideal case. A real-space theoretical approach and a pseudospectral numerical method are developed, which facilitate the computation for the full spatiotemporal dynamics of the scattering process.

Ultra-wide single-photon frequency conversion and entanglement via constructive interference

Hongyun Chen, Ji-Bing Liu

We investigate theoretically a single-photon frequency conversion with a Sagnac waveguide loop by input-output formalism. The results show that an ultra-wide tunable frequency conversion can be achieved via constructive interference and a flexible adjustment of parameters. For instance, we discuss the generation of ultraviolet photons in detail, which corresponds to the up-conversion process of frequency. We also can obtain entangled states of photons and atoms under suitable parameter conditions. Our calculations prove that a single-photon frequency conversion with high efficiency can be realized, even if effected by spontaneous decay and deviation of parameters.

Tunable single-photon frequency conversion in a Sagnac interferometer

Wei‐Bin Yan, Jin‐Feng Huang, Heng Fan

Quantum information carriers like photons might be manipulated, stored and transmitted in different quantum systems. It is important to integrate those systems efficiently. The capability of converting photons from one wavelength to another wavelength is a key requirement for combining the photons in telecommunications band for quantum transmission and the photons in near-visible band for quantum storage. Here, we investigate the tunable single-photon frequency conversion in the five-level emitter-Sagnac interferometer system. We show that the efficient single-photon conversion can be achieved in this scheme, at the same time, the frequencies of the input and output photons can be tuned in a large scale by controlling the frequencies and Rabi frequencies of the external driving fields. The realization of this scheme may lead to the efficient combination of quantum storage system with the quantum communication system.
