Resonant-Phase Conjugation in YAlO3:Nd Single Crystals

Abstract

A new spectral method for surface investigation based on optical-phase conjugation in an unexcited transparent medium is theoretically developed and experimentally verified. On YAlO 3 :Nd (1 at %) single crystals at room temperature, the phase conjugation of light is revealed for a photon energy equal to half the energy of resonant local oscillations of electrons of impurity centers. The dependences of the intensity of the phase-conjugation signal of light on its spectral structure are investigated. An explanation of the effect of the Raman scattering of light electromagnetic waves by neodymium ions is offered.

Phase conjugation at the surfaces of optically excited CuI films

А. Н. Грузинцев

The possibility of realizing an optical phase conjugation in an excited semiconductor medium is shown theoretically and experimentally. A phase conjugation is revealed for the photon energy equal to half the energy of the radiative recombination of excitons in CuI films pumped by a nitrogen laser at room temperature. The dependences of the phase-conjugation signal intensity on its spectral composition are investigated. The quadratic interaction of light and exciton electromagnetic oscillations in the semiconductor medium is suggested as an explanation of this effect.

Phase conjugation on the surface of optically excited ZnO

А. Н. Грузинцев, Vladimir T. Volkov

The feasibility of phase conjugation in excited semiconductor media is shown both theoretically and experimentally. For the first time, phase conjugation of a light wave (nitrogen laser) with a photon energy equal to half the exciton radiative recombination energy in the medium (ZnO epitaxial films) at room temperature is revealed. The spectral dependences of the phase conjugation signal are studied. The quadratic interaction between the electromagnetic and exciton waves in a semiconductor is suggested as a possible mechanism of this effect.

Phase conjugator of the light beams based on Nd:YAG rod with the reciprocal feedback.

Oleg L. Antipov, Sergey I. Belyaev, A.S. Kuzhelev

Self-pumped phase conjugation of the light beam in an inverted Nd:YAG-rod with the reciprocal feedback loop was studied. The effect was caused by the simultaneous stimulated resonance scattering of the light waves (the incindent wave and the one passing through FL) in the laser crystal.

Phase conjugation by four-wave mixing of Nd:YAG lasers in Si single crystal

J Chen

The phase conjugate wave has been obtained by degenerated four-wave mixing (DFWM) with silicon single crystal as the nonlinear medium using Q-switched Nd:YAG lasers. The reflectivity of the phase conjugate mirror (PCM) has been calculated from the theory of the light induced electron-hole-pair density, which produced a phase grating. Experimentally, a reflectivity of 125% of the PCM was obtained and the property of the compensation of the phase aberrations was demonstrated.

Single-frequency phase-conjugate laser resonator using stimulated Brillouin scattering

Michael J. Damzen, Marcus H. R. Hutchinson, W. A. Schroeder

An experimental investigation of a phase-conjugate laser resonator using a Nd:YAG gain medium and incorporating Brillouin-enhanced four-wave mixing is reported. Phase-conjugate reflectivities of greater than unity and stable oscillation between a single laser frequency and a counterpropagating Stokes frequency are demonstrated.

Phase conjugation of orthogonal polarized laser beams in inverted Nd:YAG-rod

Oleg L. Antipov, Sergey I. Belyaev, A.S. Kuzhelev

It is well known that inverted laser crystals have a strong inertial optical nonlinearity that is connected with changing of susceptibility by saturation of laser transition. The phase conjugation (PC) of laser beams by parametric oscillation in resonator with holographic mirror induced by means of mutually-coherent pumping waves in an inverted laser crystal was discussed.1,2 In our work, the phase conjugation of laser beams in loop scheme with an inverted Nd:YAG-rod (where two near-counter-running light beams with orthogonal polarization intersected) was investigated.
