Observation of doubly dressed states in cold atoms

Min Yan, Edward G. Rickey, Yifu Zhu

We report an experimental observation of doubly dressed states in ${}^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ atoms cooled and confined in a magneto-optical trap. The doubly dressed states are produced by a strong-coupling laser and a moderate pump laser in a three-level atomic configuration. The absorption spectrum of a weak probe laser reveals a three-peaked spectral profile that can be interpreted by a dressed-state picture and agrees well with calculations based on the density-matrix equations.

Dynamically Controlled Resonance Fluorescence Spectra from a Doubly Dressed Single InGaAs Quantum Dot

Y. He, Y.-M. He, Jianglai Liu +8 more

We report the first experimental demonstration of the interference-induced spectral line elimination predicted by Zhu and Scully [Phys. Rev. Lett. 76, 388 (1996)] and Ficek and Rudolph [Phys. Rev. A 60, R4245 (1999)]. We drive an exciton transition of a self-assembled quantum dot in order to realize a two-level system exposed to a bichromatic laser field and observe the nearly complete elimination of the resonance fluorescence spectral line at the driving laser frequency. This is caused by quantum interference between coupled transitions among the doubly dressed excitonic states, without population trapping. We also demonstrate a multiphoton ac Stark effect with shifted subharmonic resonances and dynamical modifications of resonance fluorescence spectra by using double dressing.

Adiabatic optical entanglement between electron spins in separate quantum dots

Semion K. Saikin, Clive Emary, Duncan G. Steel +1 more

We present an adiabatic approach to the design of entangling quantum operations with two electron spins localized in separate InAs/GaAs quantum dots via the Coulomb interaction between optically excited localized states. Slowly varying optical pulses minimize the pulse noise and the relaxation of the excited states. An analytical ``dressed-state'' solution gives a clear physical picture of the entangling process and a numerical solution is used to investigate the error dynamics. For two vertically stacked quantum dots we show that, for a broad range of dot parameters, a two-spin state with concurrence $C>0.85$ can be obtained by four optical pulses with durations $\ensuremath{\sim}0.1--1\text{ }\text{ns}$.
